04:30That being said, this episode we are reacting to and analyzing everything that went down on

04:36WWE SmackDown tonight.

04:37It is the September 25th episode.

04:40We started off the show with what I think is one of the most exciting matches I've seen

04:44from Baron Corbin in years.

04:46Baron Corbin challenging Trick Williams in a steel cage match for the WWE United States

04:51Championship.

04:52The match was solid.

04:53Lil Yachty's at ringside and ends up becoming very critical in the outcome of the match.

04:58This is a conventional cage match.

05:00Trick Williams, very limited experience.

05:02Baron Corbin, really pretty limited experience in terms of cage matches.

05:05At the end of the match, Lil Yachty slams the door on Baron Corbin.

05:09Um, there's some more exchange in the ring, deep six, kickouts, um, trick shots, kickouts,

05:15but eventually at the end, three bookends before Trick Williams retains the WWE United States

05:21Championship.

05:21I love this.

05:22I didn't think he would lose it that soon after regaining it.

05:25I think Baron Corbin in a weird way needs to be elevated.

05:28I know that sounds shocking because he's an older talent.

05:30He was gone for so long.

05:31You want to see new guys move up, but I think Corbin really could have one real solid main event

05:36level run with somebody at the top of the card.

05:39And you can't do that if you're toiling around in the mid card.

05:42I actually think long-term that's where he's destined to stay is in the mid card, but he

05:45did make it clear in a recent interview.

05:47And I apologize.

05:47I don't know who it was with because I don't keep that stuff programmed in my brain, but

05:51that this contract he got is multi-year and probably will be one of his last.

05:55And he is really excited for all the opportunities and really wants to be in the world title picture

05:58at some point.

05:59Don't know if it'll ever happen, but it's certainly interesting that he has that perspective.

06:02That being said, we get after the cage match, we get Nick Aldis pulling CM Punk to his office

06:07and inside there waiting is Kevin Owens.

06:09And basically this is a cautionary tale for all, for both of them that Aldis does not want

06:14to see interference in the three person money in the bank qualifier later on with CM Punk.

06:19He needs these two to squash their beef.

06:22I expected after that interview or that promo or whatever you want to call this, the vignette

06:26or whatever you want to call this backstage segment, I expected KO to get involved.

06:30I really do.

06:31Going into that main event, I'm just waiting for KO to show up because it just makes all

06:35the sense in the world.

06:36Now, the weird thing for me is booking wise, perhaps if you wanted to use this angle, you

06:42could have it where KO doesn't show up in the main event.

06:44And the only reason he doesn't show up is because he makes a deal with Nick Aldis that if he

06:48doesn't

06:48show up, he gets a championship opportunity.

06:50How cool would that be?

06:52Maybe that's what you do at Crown Jewel.

06:54You know what I mean?

06:55Have Kevin Owens get a war.

06:56Well, no, you can't do that because you got to have Sami Zayn versus Roman Reigns, but whatever.

07:00Maybe on Smackdown in a couple of weeks or something, you have that match.

07:03I just think it makes a lot of sense if you're not going to have KO get involved.

07:06If he does get involved, he's going to cost Punk and I don't know who you're going to

07:09put into the, and maybe Gunther goes into the ladder match.

07:13I don't know.

07:13We'll have to say, or I apologize.

07:14In the money in the bank.

07:15I don't know.

07:16We'll have to wait and see.

07:16So later on, then we go to Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, and Paige in the back having a

07:21conversation.

07:22This is where you almost get a feel that Tiffany Stratton might be leaning more heelish, but

07:28Stratton and Paige end up leaving.

07:30Nikki Bella arrives, and there's already seeds planted for Nikki Bella and Chelsea for the

07:35Women's Championship.

07:35And there was word that Chelsea has sales pitch WB on having that feud and culminating in

07:41a hair versus hair match, which I think would be rather interesting.

07:43I actually would expect Nikki Bella to win that and have Chelsea get shaved.

07:48And I don't know how people would feel about Nikki Bella beating Chelsea Green right now.

07:52Chelsea's so over.

07:54However, Nikki Bella does leave.

07:56She retreats when Tiffany Stratton and Paige show back up.

07:59From there, we get the three-woman match for the Money in the Bank qualifier.

08:04Charlotte Flair, Lash Legend, Julia.

08:06And this was pretty solid.

08:08It really was.

08:10I really thought Charlotte was going to win this.

08:13She's been out of that World Championship picture for so long.

08:16You know what I mean?

08:16At some point, she really needs to get back into that World Championship picture.

08:21And right now, with Chelsea Green being the champion, she'd be an ideal candidate to dethrone

08:26her, if I'm being completely honest.

08:27That being said, Charlotte does not win this match.

08:31It goes to Lash Legend after a Lash extension on Julia, who you thought was going to defeat

08:36Charlotte with her hitting her moves.

08:37But that's not the case.

08:39Lash Legend picks up the win.

08:40And this is great, because I think Lash Legend could do a lot more than WWE has been booking

08:43her with.

08:44So I'm excited to see where they put her in that match.

08:47Afterwards, Blake Monroe attacks Julia backstage while she confronts her.

08:51It leads to a brawl between the two.

08:52And we find out from Nick Aldis that next week on SmackDown, we're finally going to see

08:56Blake Monroe and Julia one-on-one.

08:58And it's about freaking time.

08:59Blake Monroe caught up to the main roster just after WrestleMania.

09:02We still haven't seen her worth a darn.

09:04You need to get her on television.

09:05She's too good not to be there.

09:06We get a pre-recorded episode or segment with Randy Orton talking to Michael Cole.

09:12I didn't like this.

09:13This just made me feel like old Gene Snitsky, Michael Cole vibes when Orton is trying to

09:19intimidate him.

09:20I don't think we needed that.

09:22And I don't need you to sales pitch me on Orton being a great heel.

09:25He's always been a great heel.

09:26This just came off really strange.

09:28I didn't like this segment.

09:29He was asking Cole if Cody's going to be able to kick his head off his shoulders.

09:34And Cole wouldn't answer the question.

09:36It's kind of weird.

09:37Didn't like the segment.

09:38Really didn't.

09:39From there, we get Chelsea, Tiffany Stratton, and Paige taking on Fatal Influence.

09:44And of course, the match itself is pretty solid.

09:47Fatal Influence, they hit the main roster running and then kind of stalled out for a while.

09:51Now they're starting to get their stride again.

09:54The match is solid all the way through until the end when Nikki Bella gets involved,

09:57interferes, trips up Chelsea, and Fatal Influence end up picking up the win by defeating

10:02Paige.

10:03Hate it.

10:04I absolutely hate it.

10:05You know, I get it.

10:06You still have Nikki Bella having her thing with Paige, but now you've teased her and

10:09Chelsea Green.

10:10We still have to do something when the Bellas reunite with AJ Lee.

10:13There's just too many things going on with Nikki Bella.

10:15And she's not the biggest draw anymore.

10:18So I don't know why they're pushing her so hard.

10:20Maybe get the most out of her before she retires.

10:22But I really just did not like this segment whatsoever.

10:25We do get video footage of Damian Priest attacking R-Truth at the WWE Performance Center.

10:30That one took place yesterday, the day before.

10:31I can't even remember at this point.

10:33Footage of it went up as a WWE exclusive.

10:36We got to see it here on SmackDown.

10:38Obviously, Priest leaning heavily into this heelish character now, laying out our truth.

10:42And I really, I want him to get off the truth thing as soon as possible.

10:45You know, write truth off TV if you have to for a little while.

10:48So you can get Damian Priest into a much higher level feud.

10:51I think that's something we really need to see to reestablish him as a main event player.

10:55This is a guy who used to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

10:57And I'd still like to see him go with some of the guys he hasn't had an opportunity to be

11:00in the ring with.

11:01Put him in there with a Roman Reigns.

11:02Put him in there with an LA Knight.

11:04People like that.

11:04I'd like to see that.

11:05Right now, I feel like he's a mid-carder.

11:07And that's a problem for a guy who only two years ago was World Heavyweight Champion.

11:11I don't know.

11:12We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

11:14So Cody Rhodes comes out.

11:16He cuts his promo.

11:17Talking about how he's going to knock Randy Orton's head off his shoulders.

11:21Talking to the crowd.

11:22Playing to the crowd.

11:22But he very much has a heel-ish vibe.

11:25Just leaning into that just a little bit.

11:27I don't know if they're going to go full-blown heel.

11:29I know there's been reports out there about maybe Cody Rhodes joining up with Paul Heyman

11:32to create a new Dangerous Alliance type of faction.

11:35I don't know if I buy that.

11:37But I would not be surprised.

11:38But I don't think Cody ever goes full heel.

11:40At least I'm hoping he doesn't.

11:42I really don't think that's a good idea for him.

11:44Certainly not in the position he's in with the little kids showing up in cosplay, Cody Rhodes gear and everything

11:49else.

11:49I just think it'd be better for Cody to stay babyface.

11:52I really do.

11:52I know some people want that change.

11:54I don't think you have to go full heel.

11:55You could just lean that way.

11:57Like the Kenny Omega thing leading into all-in.

11:59Lean into the heel-ish side of things for a couple weeks and then come back.

12:02Or a couple months and come back.

12:03But I don't know.

12:05We'll have to wait and see.

12:05I'm looking forward to the two of them mixing it up.

12:07But next week, he'll be in a Money in the Bank qualifier.

12:10And I do expect Orton to cost him that.

12:12Because I think they're going to have another match at Money in the Bank where Cody will get a win

12:15and whatever.

12:16It is what it is.

12:17But right now, Cody would have to be the favorite in that match.

12:21Now, if he wins, can you imagine some of the things that can happen in this match?

12:24Cody versus Penta.

12:26Oh, that's awesome.

12:27Cody versus Trick Williams.

12:29That is also awesome.

12:30I would love to see both of those.

12:31A lot of opportunities.

12:33Plus, whoever wins tonight's Money in the Bank ladder match qualifier.

12:36Which we get to next.

12:37CM Punk taking on Finn Balor.

12:39Taking on Gunther.

12:40Hard hitting.

12:41Great chops.

12:42Great moveset.

12:43But I actually had a moment where I thought Finn Balor was going to win this.

12:47He hit so much in this match.

12:48They are really going out of their way to make him look good.

12:50And I know people have theorized that CM Punk is the reason they're doing that.

12:53I don't care.

12:54I'm a Balor fan to begin with.

12:56But he looked great in this match.

12:58He really did.

12:58I really thought he had a chance to win.

13:00And then at the very end, Gunther's putting CM Punk into a sleeper.

13:05We see Finn Balor hit a coup de grace off the turnbuckle.

13:09And we see Punk steal the win by pinning Gunther and winning his Money in the Bank qualifier.

13:13So now CM Punk is in that Money in the Bank match.

13:15Now imagine if Cody wins there.

13:17You're going to get Cody and Punk again.

13:18Punk and Penta.

13:20Cody and Penta.

13:22Punk and Trick.

13:23Cody and Trick.

13:23Like there's so many options.

13:25Penta and Trick.

13:26I'm loving it.

13:27I really am loving it.

13:28And Javon.

13:28We haven't been talking about Javon.

13:29Javon and Punk.

13:30Javon and Cody.

13:31Like there's so much you can do with that match now.

13:34So I can't wait to see where it goes.

13:36But all in all, sometimes I always forget every now and again to do this.

13:41But tonight I'm not.

13:42I'm trying to do this thing where I rate every show out of five stars.

13:45This one for me, three and a quarter stars.

13:47Solid show.

13:48Some things I could have done without.

13:49I didn't need the Randy Orton segment.

13:51I really didn't need the Cody Rhodes promo either.

13:53Didn't love the ending in the Fatal Influence match.

13:56But there's other things I really did.

13:58Like I love the cage match.

13:59I love the outest Punk KO part in the back.

14:01Like I'm okay with the teasing of Nikki Bella, Chelsea Green.

14:05You know, but and I actually liked that Punk won because I think it opens up some great

14:09opportunities.

14:10And we fed into the Priest thing.

14:11As long as they move off Priest and Truth soon, I'll be okay with that.

14:14So there's a lot of mixed bag here.

14:16So that's why I went three and a quarter stars.

14:17I really think they could have done more, but they didn't have a lot that they needed to

14:21do.

14:22We'll have to wait and see how things progress heading into Money in the Bank shortly.

14:25But for now, that's all the time we have for this episode.
