00:00Welcome to a slightly weird week of weather that contains warmth, waves, strong winds and a little bit of wet
00:08weather too.
00:10What's going on? Well, we start the week with high pressure actually sitting over the UK, bringing many of us
00:15a fine day on Monday.
00:17But out in the west, we've got a couple of areas of low pressure.
00:21This one is going to be the dominant feature.
00:23It moves northwards, merges with the other one and spins up into quite a deep area of low pressure, generating
00:29a lot of isobars.
00:30That makes for the winds.
00:32This cold frontal edge across the country, bringing some wet weather as well.
00:36But ahead of that cold front, some really quite warm areas in place, particularly for Tuesday and Tuesday night.
00:42Then the low will drift further north up towards Iceland and that will allow high pressure to move in,
00:48certainly across the southern half of the country for the second half of the week, calming the weather down.
00:52And bringing us, what looks like at the moment, a largely fine start to the first weekend in October.
00:58Let's rewind the fun though and go through the week day by day.
01:01That cold front still at bay as we start Tuesday.
01:05But there is a warm front that's moving in through the night, bringing in the warmer air, bringing a lot
01:09of cloud as well.
01:10And some showery outbreaks of rain.
01:12They'll be fairly hit and miss as they drift northwards across England and Wales.
01:17Most places will be dry, but it may stay fairly cloudy.
01:20In the south, however, I think we will see that cloud breaking up to reveal some afternoon sunshine on Tuesday.
01:26Look at where the winds are coming up from.
01:28Those winds will be strengthening through the day, but also wafting up that warmer air.
01:32And we're behind that warm front across England and Wales.
01:35So warm air tucked in here.
01:37Could see temperatures getting up to 24, 25 degrees.
01:41In and around the London area, 26, 27 is likely.
01:45That's pretty remarkable for the end of September.
01:47Not as warm further north, but still temperatures close to a little above average for most.
01:54Then as we go through into Tuesday nights, that cold front tied into that low pressure really starts to approach.
01:59The iceberg squidge together.
02:02The warm air is still very much in place.
02:04We are going to see some rain as this weather front approaches.
02:08But the temperatures overnight are not going to drop too fast.
02:11So we're going to start Wednesday with temperatures in the mid or even high teens.
02:16There is a small chance we may stay above 20 Celsius in some parts of eastern England.
02:22That would make it a tropical night and the latest we've ever recorded one of those.
02:26But I think more likely starting off at 17, 18, maybe 19 Celsius.
02:31Certainly starting soggy with that cold front bringing some quite heavy rain for Wednesday mornings.
02:35Russia slowly working its way eastwards through the morning.
02:39Brighter skies will follow along with a fair few showers.
02:42But the wind's picking up.
02:44It's going to be a blustery, gusty spell through Tuesday, Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
02:49So even though temperatures will be above average in the afternoon sunshine,
02:52it will again feel cooler because of the strength of those winds.
02:55And those winds with that low pressure just drawing up some pretty large waves
02:59around these western coasts again through Tuesday, Tuesday night and into Wednesday too.
03:05So as I said, plenty going on.
03:06That weather front does kind of clear out of the way by the end of Wednesday.
03:10Still linked to that deep low which is drifting further and further away.
03:14High pressure is trying to move in but it's not really making much progress at this stage.
03:19But generally I think the weather will be calming down a little as we head towards the weekend.
03:24Still a fair few showers around likely on Thursday.
03:27Initially perhaps across the east and then further west we'll see a few scattered showers for Wales
03:32and showers and a brisk wind coming into the western isles.
03:35One or two generated through the day.
03:38Temperatures back closer to the average.
03:40But by this stage we're into October.
03:43So still 2021 where it does brighten up across eastern England is a little bit above the typical
03:50for that time of year.
03:51High pressure then really does establish itself as we go through Thursday night across the southeast
03:56of the UK.
03:57But another weather front tries to make progress in across Scotland, Northern Ireland and eventually
04:02into Wales.
04:03So that will bring more cloud here.
04:04Perhaps some outbreaks of rain moving steadily through.
04:07Bumping up against that high might not make much progress.
04:10So may well stay largely dry over eastern parts of England.
04:14Whereas elsewhere we will see quite a few showers and a brisk wind and those temperatures.
04:17Again high teens or maybe into the low 20s.
04:20The high looks like winning out those squeezing away those weather fronts as we head towards
04:25Saturday in particular.
04:27And that will bring most places a dry day.
04:29These weather fronts may start to bring some cloud and rain up towards the far northwest.
04:34But at this stage it looks like a good part of the country under the influence of high
04:37pressure as we head into the first weekend of October.
04:41Plenty to get through though before we get there.
04:43Do keep up to date with the forecast this week.
04:45It is going to be an interesting week of weather.
