01:25different than a two-run game but i had no issue with him taking gavin out there sabrowski got
01:30miracami out and yeah he ended up giving up some runs and but eric's been pretty good all season so
01:36i was surprised he brought him back i'm sorry matt i was surprised he brought him back out for the
01:41sixth to be honest yeah well i mean he they made him work he pitched great and i get it

01:49owen shyman in the background yeah maybe you did push him to 110 you got days off and everything else
01:53and it is the postseason but that wasn't the issue the issue to me is once again and we've talked
01:58about this all year when i've come on the show and you hear it on on our podcast i just

02:04hitting i get it that that's what playoff baseball is and it's a lot of swing and miss and there's

02:09not a lot of base runners and everything else but you know you game was pretty close i mean adele

02:24it's a squibber double i mean they're getting some breaks and they've had some unbelievable pitching
02:29performances whether it's smith or or taylor last night burke and right now they're in a hole but i'm
02:36i think this team actually can go to chicago and win a couple of games i truly believe that uh

03:50offense is so bad that i do think you have to take into consideration that when thinking about when to

04:09inning talking about the indians and guardians playoff history and putting us completely down
04:14in the dumps but um ron darling wait there was a conversation i don't remember ron darling saying

04:27look i mean i i get what you're saying it is similar to complementary football and knowing that you're
04:33right the white socks were pitching well the guardians have not hit they were red hot ending the
04:38regular season and then sat for six days and now all of a sudden they're not hitting and let's let's
04:44be honest this team has not hit very well at home all year this is why i have some hope

04:50there's sure a lot of fans are like it's over but remember in 2017 when the when the indians were

04:55too well on the yankees everybody said oh that's it for the yankees it's over there's no way they can
04:59bounce back from a yon gomes walk off hit in the 13th inning after the lindor grand slam it's done
05:05and all the yankees did was win three straight now i know they went home for those games and then
05:10had to come back here for game five but i the guardians play well on the road and now getting
05:16into that hotel tomorrow or whatever and and being together and rallying all the pressures now on the
05:23white socks to close this out at home all the fans are going to game three or game four thinking
05:27we're going to see a celebration on the field and everything else and why not go in there and win

05:31couple of games these games have all been close all year against that team matt dairy joining us

06:02all season and if you almost hope that a switch could get flipped for the postseason and that
06:08the jose of old could reappear but over six three strikeouts uh not good they need him to contribute
06:16and obviously when there's a left-hander on the mound him hitting right-handed is just better for his
06:22wrist right now and hopefully he can get some knocks and and turn this around but you know
06:28they they decided last night when taylor came into the game to try to jump him early and swing early
06:33and that's what joe adele did nearly tied the game so i i think the adele hit woke everybody up

06:39bit i know in the ninth they didn't do anything against taylor and that sucked but i think going
06:43getting on the road like we like we talked about um will will help them and i think they've got

06:49the approach has got to be better they've got to put the ball in play again i see some guys

06:54little bit pull happy again which i know is the looks to me the grant fink philosophy and i've said

07:38about him in the playoffs in the past if we're all admitting he's hurt but we don't want to take

07:42out of the lineup because we just can't afford to pass up on the on a kirk gibson type chance

07:47he could come through don't we have to at the very least move him down in the lineup

08:38they just hope that he shoots a few you know in the right field or something like that to get

08:43but right now nobody's hitting it's not just him it's it's it's everybody at the moment really outside
08:47of outside of delauder do you i've been pretty defensive of him do you think that the postseason
08:53struggling uh criticism towards jose ramirez throughout his career has been pretty warranted
09:01lately ken yeah i mean look you go back to 2016 what he hits 300 310 in the world series

09:07he was one of your best hitters in that cub series and really helped you win a championship
09:12but since you're right i mean the struggles against the yankees have been well documented if
09:17you look at jose's numbers and all those series with new york now an 0 for 6 is not going

09:22his cause but again as you guys mentioned before because i am a p1 listener um you know you
09:29the numbers are what they are he's 0 for 6 now and they need him he's a giant spark everybody

09:35when jose's on it it bleeds through to the rest of the team he's our leader he sets the tone

09:41if he's setting the tone uh and he's not performing it doesn't help you and there's a lot of young
09:46players on this team i hope people don't think i'm making excuses i get as mad as anybody i'm
09:51of course i'm ticked off but still a very young team that needs their veteran leader to come through
09:57uh we saw the ticket prices for this came three it's outrageous like you would think this is at
10:02wrigley but instead it's at comiskey park slash guaranteed rate field slash i don't know how
10:09many different rate field now it's just rate field all right what are they walking into and how are
10:15they going to deal with that because this is going to be the craziest crowd since what 2005 since they
10:20won the world series yeah i mean a lot of their games this year uh they've they've rallied at home
10:27they've had a really good home record the white socks have that crowd is into it i mean they're
10:32they're energized that's a fun team you know i wish i could sit here and say i can't stand that

10:46i hated yesterday when venable walked to the mound after three or four hitters and
10:51replace the pitcher it seems gimmicky it seems weak like okay you start anthony k gets three guys on
10:59base and comes out of the game and you're going to another reliever i don't i don't love that but
11:04it's working for them and they're they're good they have a really good team their gm chris katz has
11:09done a great job and they're tough but i think this team our team can can rally i truly believe
11:15that i
11:15think it's going to be close again but um this team guardians have played very well on the road
11:20all these things they've clinched whether it was at fenway whether it was in kansas city those were
11:25all on the road this team seems to rally away from home and see if they can do it one
11:29more time here
11:30and force a game five and come home saturday matt dairy joining us here in the wise heart right we

11:39well you said can i i don't as a traditionalist and as somebody that is i guess considered an old

11:44now at 53 years old i don't love it but it's it's winning for them it's working i mean they
11:50anybody that's watched the guards all year knows going back to the giant series the guardians lost
11:55like a one nothing game in a bullpen game to a bad giants bullpen but they mixed and matched
12:00they went up that's what's going on tampa bay does it uh uh you know white socks have done it

12:07the announcer said last night on tbs it's the the team that uses the bullpen the most the red socks
12:11have
12:11done it a ton and they made the playoffs with these bullpen games and it's i don't love it i

12:16sean burke to me is their starting pitcher why not just start him well they started with the lefties
12:21they you know nate lobe basically bounced out unless you know newcomb throws it away it's not like we
12:27hit a gapper there but it's working for them well i love it no i mean we're we're going the
12:32traditional
12:32route i'm assuming with bybee tomorrow and tanner's pitched in a lot of big games when they've asked
12:38him to stop losing streaks he has but that's more of the traditional way of doing it well that's why
12:43i think i'm so frustrated because you know when i hear bullpen game like oh man this is it almost
12:47feels like a free win if the white socks finish us off say they do find a lot of success
12:53out of this
12:53is this something that that we do in the future that baseball teams do in the future is this
12:57something that has been done more and i haven't noticed as much yeah guardians have been one team
13:03that really hasn't done this i mean outside of when espino was opening for cantillo toward the
13:08end of the year and that worked that was working of course the one game it didn't work was when
13:12they
13:12threw out uh aleman which was a disaster but yeah i mean maybe the guards adopt some of this in
13:19the
13:19future but cleveland we've always built this roster and this team around starting pitching and i've always
13:25had guys i mean now you're you talk about messick and williams and bybee and cantillo i mean they've got
13:31plenty of arms and more on the way you know in terms of guys in the minor so but this
13:37may be the
13:38way to go about it because you're you're making the lineup having to move things around you're
13:42you're pinching early in the game and you're causing confusion and this is what the tigers did
13:47to us last year and this is what the white socks are doing to us now uh obviously a bevy
13:52of choices
13:53for game three i know they kind of wanted to wait and see how things went after the first two
13:58games
13:58in cleveland but is it bybee are you trusting cantillo griffin espino what are you doing and
14:05then what is the philosophy after the start well i'm pitching first of all you have another day off
14:12which helps the white socks because they rest their pen and this this these days off that have
14:16happened after every game have really helped chicago rest their guys um i'm starting tanner bybee
14:23tomorrow he's pitched in big games before he stopped losing streaks before uh guardians had
14:30to get a win in minnesota a few weeks ago on that sunday game when they moved guys around and
14:35threw
14:35tanner out there and he he pitched well and he's pitched in in these situations in the past and
14:40whether it was going up against scoobal or pitching against the yankees two years ago i and he did all
14:45right i i think he's the guy for game three and you're right then you get to if you somehow
14:51win that
14:51game and you get to thursday my guess is you would go to you know messick or you try out
14:58the whole
14:59espino and the cantillo thing but you know joey is on the playoff roster hasn't pitched yet griffin's
15:04on the playoff roster hasn't pitched yet all hands on deck for tomorrow because you have to win one game
15:10and then you you worry about thursday thursday but my guess is that griffin would be ready after
15:15by me if need be like early on is a different look from the left side matt thank you very
