00:00We did find out that the Browns have opened up the 21-day window on Dylan Gabriel,
00:04allowing him to return to practice.
00:06And I don't know what has happened with Dylan Gabriel
00:09in the minds of certain Browns fans and media members in the last five weeks.
00:16But a guy that I think a lot of us expected might be cut about five weeks ago,
00:22something happened in that third preseason game, not an injury.
00:26That was totally made up.
00:28But something happened that turned this guy into the backup quarterback
00:31in a segment of people's imaginations.
00:35And while there's a valid conversation to be had here,
00:38I don't get how Dylan Gabriel has leapfrogged Shador in the minds of many people here.
00:43I don't understand it either.
00:44I mean, we were just talking to Keith off the air,
00:45and he was making the suggestion that if Deshaun went down,
00:49he might have just been producing is all he's doing here.
00:51I don't know that Keith believes this, but he's like, if Deshaun goes down.
00:53We're getting double slippery wizard here.
00:55It's all day for us, isn't it?
00:56That's fine.
00:57First Lima, and then Keith comes in.
00:59He did have a little Chesser cat grin when he came into it.
01:01No, he did.
01:02He was trying to, he's like, would you really throw Shador out there
01:05if you know Deshaun's out for a couple weeks?
01:06A couple weeks injury, you're going to start that firestorm?
01:08I'm like, yeah, you start that firestorm.
01:10If Deshaun gets Wally pipped by Shador because you're winning too much,
01:14that's a problem I think that you can live with.
01:16Yeah, I just, I, listen, the reality should have always been if Deshaun starts,
01:23Shador is the next man up.
01:25And I understand there is a fascinating, I guess, fundamental question here of,
01:31do you want your backup quarterback to have the greatest master of the offense,
01:34or do you want him to actually be able to win you games?
01:37And I understand for some coaches, they'll take the guy that can spit out the plays
01:41in record time, but can't throw past, I don't know, the line of scrimmage.
01:46That's not where the Browns should be.
01:48And the Dylan Gabriel-Shador conversation, I can't help but feel like the anti-Shadorians
01:56out there, the Shador haters, have penciled in, have snuck by this Dylan Gabriel love,
02:04and it remains, as it was five weeks ago, a bit delusional to me.
02:08So I just think it's wrong because I think Shador's the better quarterback.
02:10But now, riddle me this, because I, you know, what you're seeing with Ben Johnson in Chicago,
02:17he's won now with three different quarterbacks this year.
02:19It seems like he can win with just about any quarterback.
02:21It seems like anybody, any quarterback that comes out there, whether it's Tyson Badgett,
02:24whether it's Case Keenum, whether it's Caleb Williams, and we see this with some head coaches.
02:29Kyle Shanahan's one of these guys, too.
02:30He can win with just about anybody.
02:32The worry you'd have is that Munkin is now becoming convinced that he can win with anybody.
02:36Dylan Gabriel, Taylor Greene, doesn't really matter.
02:40If I need two weeks out of somebody, I can win with those guys, and I can win with whoever
02:45that is.
02:45And I would get worried about that.
02:48I'd get worried about the idea that Munkin's ego would get in the way here.
02:51Yeah, if I thought Todd Munkin was an ego monster, maybe I'd have that concern.
02:56He's starting to get some proof of concept, though.
02:58He's starting to get some proof out there with Deshaun Watson.
03:00But with Deshaun, with a guy that...
03:02Yeah, well, that does matter.
03:03Well, yeah, but he gets...
03:04Listen, he gets to take the victory lap of, I saw something in Deshaun that Browns fans didn't.
03:08I mean, he did something Stefanski couldn't do so far.
03:10That doesn't mean that he's four weeks in going to go, now I'm Vince Lombardi.
03:15There's a bit of a leap being taken.
03:17I'm just trying to play devil's advocate for a second.
03:19Because we're both on the same side of, it should be Shador, no questions asked.
03:23So how do we keep this thing moving forward?
03:25Because I do feel like Munkin, there's going to be at some point a, wow, I really am great at
03:31this moment.
03:32This is where, though, I get to just be the voice of truth and reason again.
03:37We'll send up to our guy there.
03:39Yeah, I was going to say, you're taking that lame?
03:41Well, I mean, it's been open for a couple of years now.
03:46You have to ask the family first.
03:47You get the well wishes.
03:49Ah, Jeremy and I are boys.
03:50It'll be fine.
03:51Yeah.
03:51But where I just get to say, guys, the most logical thing is either you cut or IR Talon Green,
03:59who's never really likely to play this year outside of a gadget role.
04:03Dylan becomes your third quarterback because there's still a chance that if Deshaun gets hurt,
04:07you're going to need the other two quarterbacks.
04:09I feel like we're being shooed in or backdoored into a Dylan versus Shador conversation,
04:14and it's nonsensical to me.
04:15You need both of them.
04:16Well, the conversation really is Dylan versus Talon Green is what it should be.
04:20And then trying to figure out, like, how much do you value this guy that you think is a unicorn?
04:25Shouldn't that?
04:25Well, but how much do you value him?
04:27I mean, if Dylan Gabriel, wink, wink, went on the IR with a very troubling back injury
04:32that suddenly now cleared up just in the convenient amount of time,
04:35I'm going to assume that Talon Green might have some interest in that same thing if he's allowed to remain
04:41on
04:42basically getting an NFL paycheck as opposed to being bussed down to being a practice squad player.
04:46Now, this is pretty simple for me.
04:48It'll be Deshaun and Shador's the backup, and then Dylan Gabriel's going to be the emergency quarterback on game days.
04:52Yeah, and here's the thing.
04:53If they do activate him, they might wait the three weeks to do so.
04:56The Browns are within their right that if, again, Talon goes somewhere not on the active roster,
05:02whether that's a practice squad or the IR, and at some point the Browns decide Dylan's going to be the
05:07backup over Shador,
05:08that's fine, but in the same way, if you're going to put Deshaun as a starting quarterback
05:13because it's in the best interest of winning, your ass better win.
05:16When the first time Deshaun has to go off the field and I see Dylan Gabriel throw to the sticks
05:21in the most mundane play ever, well, you will hear about that as well.
05:25But I know people are listening along and they're like,
05:27why are you spending so much time talking about this and discussing this?
05:30I'm one of the people.
05:31Yeah, but this is what you have to do when Deshaun Watson's your quarterback.
05:34Like, this is it.
05:35The tax of being in the Deshaun Watson business is that Deshaun Watson's a very injured player,
05:39and so you have to constantly be thinking, who is my next man up?
05:42Because he might go away in the blink of an eye, in the snap of a finger.
05:46That's the currency that you have to deal with in operating with Deshaun Watson.
05:50That's why I got so frustrated with the trading Shador or Dylan Gabriel conversation.
05:54It's like the people who want to trade either guy thinks they don't have value enough for the Browns to
06:00keep,
06:00and somehow they're going to have some sort of incredible value that are going to move the Browns off of
06:04them.
06:04You just always have to have a parachute if Deshaun's your quarterback.
06:07That's it.
06:07There's no other way around it.
06:09Like, you mentioned the term proof of concept.
06:11You've got the proof of concept that Shador can bounce back and play reasonably well.
06:16So that's great for the first four games of the season.
06:18That's more than I thought you were going to have.
06:20I thought we'd be on to Shador already, right?
06:22Well, now you need the proof of concept he can stay healthy.
06:24And that doesn't happen by week six.
06:26That doesn't happen by week ten.
06:27That happens by the end of the season.
06:29And by that point, you'll already probably be making plans to turn Deshaun into your bridge quarterback,
06:35but still draft a quarterback.
06:37So, like, there's not, like, this perfect moment where the moon and stars align,
06:41and all of a sudden you're going to be able to get great value for one of these quarterbacks.
06:44No, you need Deshaun protection because the only proof of concept you need left from him is staying healthy,
06:50and that's not something that gets accomplished in ten weeks.
06:53It's not.
06:54It's got to be a full season.
06:55And to the end of Deshaun's career, whatever team has him as their starter is always going to have to
06:59be thinking about the backup quarterback.
07:00And if they're going to have to, at some point, deploy that quarterback and let him play because you just
07:06can't rely on Deshaun's health.
07:07Dylan Gabriel's 21-day practice window has been opened up, and this is going to have people salivating for hot
07:13takes about who will be the backup.
07:16And will they trade Shador or Dylan?
07:19Can that happen?
07:20Can you get a J.J. McCarthy kind of deal here?
07:22One more time, for the common sense crowd, Talon Green goes somewhere not on the active roster,
07:29and then you carry three quarterbacks because you're probably going to need them.
07:33That's where this should go.
07:35Anything other than that is an upset the apple cart moment.
07:38Feels good.
07:39I'm glad that felt good.
07:40We're really covered that.
07:41Well, now I was thinking about the hierarchy of backup quarterbacks.
07:43I mean, today people are talking about if the Falcons are going to ship Tua out.
07:47If you give up an asset for Tua.
07:49I don't even know.
07:50I mean.
07:51You should be led to Town Square and have a bunch of fat jamokes like me make fun of you,
07:56heckle you for hours.
07:57I was going to say Tarnfeather.
07:58I was going to say, like, throw tomatoes at you.
08:00You know, like, that's fun.
08:01Town Square.
08:01Like rotten tomatoes.
08:02Yeah, yeah, yeah, naturally.
08:03Yeah, not like good tomatoes.
08:04Kick it back to the golden days, but not too far.
08:06Not too far back.
08:07Not, not, okay.
08:08No, no, too far back.
08:08Too far back.
08:09No, no, no.
08:09It'd be right time frame.
08:11Bring it a decade up, please.
08:12Just tomatoes, guys.
08:12Just tomatoes, guys.
08:13Just tomatoes, guys.
08:13Just tomatoes, guys.
08:13Just tomatoes, guys.
08:13Let's get started.
