The Best Tech at IMC 2026 | Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 & Sennheiser Momentum 5 review | Tech Today
Transcript
00:13What does the future of consumer technology look like when you put the
00:18entire industry under one roof? That's what the India Mobile Congress is all
00:23about and we were there looking beyond the big telecom announcements at some
00:28gadgets and consumer technologies that you should actually care about. What are
00:33the announcements? We'll show you on the show. Plus we also have the new ASUS
00:36Zephras G14 laptop and we put it through its paces. Now this is a powerful gaming
00:41laptop and also portable but should you really buy this and if gaming is really
00:46your thing what kind of a premium are you willing to pay for this tech? We'll talk
00:50about that on the show because that's our review. And Sennheiser's new Momentum 5
00:55premium headphones. Are they really worth for the audiophile and you are willing
01:00to pay that expensive price tag? All of that is coming up this week on the Tech
01:03Today show. I'm Cyrus and let's get things started with the top tech headlines of the
01:08week.
01:14India's Communication Ministry has formally rejected Elon Musk's claim that local
01:19regulators are discriminating against Starlink's satellite internet rollout.
01:23Officials clarified that all foreign satellite operations must comply with strict national
01:28security guidelines including in-country data storage and verifiable emergency
01:33shutdown controls. The government said the approvals will proceed only after Starlink
01:38resolves lingering technical and compliance concerns.
01:47Meta has officially brought its news creators suite to the iPad letting digital
01:52creators generate and edit high resolution images on the device. The tablet
01:57version introduces a multi-layer canvas and gesture controls built specifically
02:02for iPad OS. Meta also confirmed that a dedicated Windows version is currently in
02:07development and will launch soon.
02:14Microsoft has released a new lineup of co-pilot plus PCs powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark Silicon
02:21along with a redesigned Windows 11 update. The hardware delivers desktop-grade graphics and
02:27onboard AI processing while keeping thin laptops on all-day battery life. The refreshed operating
02:33system brings deeper agentic workflows letting users automate complex multi-app tasks
02:39with simple voice commands.
02:46And OpenAI is rolling out a major visual upgrade to ChatGPT called Intelligent UI, moving the chatbot away from plain
02:55text replies.
02:56The new system dynamically generates interactive charts, comparison tables and custom sliders
03:02directly inside the chat window based on what you ask.
03:07OpenAI says the visual overhaul is designed to make complex data, calculations and shopping comparisons
03:13much easier to navigate.
03:29So we are here at the India Mobile Congress in Yashbhumi, Delhi getting you a showcase of all of the
03:35latest technologies
03:36being showcased over here. Now on the Tech Today show we will try to focus more on the consumer tech
03:41side of things.
03:41Things that you get to experience on a daily basis and we will also touch upon some of the future
03:47technologies
03:47that will be coming to the Indian market in the days to come.
03:51So here's a quick look at all that has been showcased here at the India Mobile Congress in Delhi
03:56and how it will change your experience when it comes to tech.
04:03Every year IMC shows us the deep plumbing of telecommunications, the 6G roadmaps, SATCOM networks, enterprise cloud stacks
04:12and the infrastructure powering tomorrow's smart cities.
04:16However, the real magic happens when all that tech lands right in the palm of your hand.
04:21So we are stepping away from the server racks and diving straight into the consumer tech stealing the show this
04:28year.
04:29Let's take a look.
04:35Now this is the new GEO glass fair warning.
04:39If you go searching online, you will not be able to find these because they have not been launched yet.
04:44They will be coming in November, December, but I just wanted to give you a quick exclusive look on the
04:50Tech Today show.
04:50Now what these glasses offer since we have already seen an influx of smart glasses in the Indian market is
04:56specifically the Meta glasses.
04:58The Indian counterpart is looking to get a more affordable version.
05:02Now, what can these glasses do?
05:04You can see both of these cameras.
05:06In fact, the cameras over there are able to record videos.
05:10You can shoot images with them.
05:12You can also scan QR codes to make payment.
05:15That is a new feature that GEO is getting to these glasses.
05:19But it's just not about the glasses.
05:21There is also an entire tech ecosystem within this.
05:25You can listen to music.
05:26There is also a microphone right there.
05:28And so many functionalities these glasses offer.
05:31GEO is also launching these in the audio only format.
05:36And also there is another version where you will be able to, you know, collaborate with other class makers.
05:42There are different, different brands in India who will be able to give you the designs on the front.
05:47However, the stem, which basically has the technology, you can integrate it with GEO's services.
05:53They can now have live translations in basically almost 12 Indian languages, which is great.
05:59Pricing is not yet known, but availability is somewhere near November and December.
06:05So I'm sure you are looking forward to this.
06:07So a quick look at the new GEO glasses and let me know what you think about these.
06:11And if you would be buying something like this.
06:14Over at Qualcomm's pavilion, the Snapdragon's story shifts from AI PCs straight into the fast lane of software defined mobility.
06:23Hey Maya, open the sunroof.
06:26This is what the future is all about.
06:29I am here at the India Mobile Congress here at Qualcomm's booth experiencing the new Google stack on the Mahindra
06:38BE6, by the way.
06:39Now what that means, you have a connected car without having the need to connect with Android Auto or Apple
06:46CarPlay.
06:46Basically, there is a sim inside of the car and you have all of the connectivity.
06:50It's integrating with the cloud and you are getting these conversational smart features with the car.
06:57Now, for example, if I want to navigate to a place, I don't want my vision to be distracted.
07:01I want to keep my hands on the steering wheel. What do I do?
07:04I just say, hey Maya, navigate to the closest restaurant.
07:09And by the way, this is an entire Google ecosystem that is running on the Mahindra BE6.
07:16It has its native AI, which is Maya, who you will be talking to.
07:20But apart from that, everything is running on the Google stack.
07:23You talk about YouTube, you talk about Gemini, you talk about Google Maps.
07:27And the conversation beyond being robotic is now evolving.
07:31You can maybe say, hey Maya, I'm feeling cold and it is increasing the temperature.
07:36So this is the future of intelligence and connected cars, what we are going to get in the future.
07:44While a lot of the consumer laptops these days run on the Windows ecosystem,
07:49a lot of the users also use Mac devices.
07:52However, when it comes to Android, people are looking for options that can give them utility and power
07:58and something they can actually carry to the office that isn't a tablet.
08:02And that's why Google is coming into this kind of an ecosystem.
08:06This is the HP Google Book 14 that we are seeing here at the India Mobile Congress.
08:12So imagine your use case, everything just completely changes when you have access to Android on the laptop.
08:19So a quick look at the new Google Book and what it offers and how you will be able to
08:24make the best use of it.
08:28This is one of the first laptops built around Google's new Google Book experience.
08:32It packs Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor, up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage,
08:39along with a sharp 3K OLED touchscreen, a 5MP camera and quad speakers.
08:46HP is also promising up to 19 hours of battery life, while deep Android integration and Gemini bring your phone
08:53and laptop much closer together.
08:57Now, despite the name mobile, there is not a lot of mobile showcase here at the India Mobile Congress,
09:05which is kind of disappointing for someone who likes a lot of hardware.
09:09But the showcase is more about enterprise.
09:12What is happening in the backend?
09:15What are some of the technologies that are powering the hardware?
09:18So let's talk about what will be the future of technology and how it will transform the way that you
09:24use your devices,
09:25because the hardware part of this event we've already shown you.
09:29Let's just talk about what is the important software and the changes that you will experience in the days to
09:36come.
09:37And the tech we are talking about here is 6G.
09:41While the next generation of mobile connectivity is still several years away,
09:46companies like Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Jio are already working out what it could mean for India.
09:54And 6G isn't simply about faster internet.
09:57It could fundamentally change how AI, machines and connected devices interact.
10:03But getting 6G to a country as large and diverse as India won't be straightforward.
10:10From infrastructure and spectrum to the sheer scale of deployment, there are some very real challenges.
10:20So if you look at all the different cell towers, they consume energy.
10:25On top of that, when 6G is coming, there will be a lot of AI into it.
10:29In order to process AI, you will need more energy.
10:34However, India is making strides in the right direction to ensure faster adoption of the technology compared to the rest
10:41of the world.
10:42We will be comparable to the Americas and there is every chance that we will be even leading Europe in
10:49terms of adoption.
10:51That's given, you see, the huge push from the government on 6G.
10:56It's a push not only from, you know, at an enterprise level, but it is also, there is a huge
11:04push and encouragement into the academia.
11:07The more interesting question is, what happens to AI when networks become significantly faster, more intelligent and capable of processing
11:17information closer to where it is being generated?
11:23So if you look at inference today, inference is the biggest problem in the AI world.
11:28You can do AI, but you need not have all the processing with you.
11:33You need not put all the different compute.
11:36And how that helps is today, say for example, if I put a GPU in your cell phone, from one
11:41day, your iPhone will last only 27 to 30 minutes.
11:44So that's a dramatic shortfall.
11:47So then tomorrow when the robots come in, when the physical AI comes in, you put GPU instead of lasting
11:52for two, three hours,
11:54it will last for only 30 minutes or 15 minutes.
11:57That kills your economic output of the robots.
12:01So 6G will help us to be more, how do you say, economically kind of, it will benefit the entire
12:09factories and the ecosystems
12:11because they will be able to concentrate on the real job at hand rather than concentrating or worrying about where
12:19the compute comes from.
12:23The official theme of the event is scale without boundaries.
12:27Yet inside the sector, the boundaries are painfully obvious.
12:31While these companies talk about their 6G roadmaps and autonomous mobility,
12:36telcos are still struggling to monetize their massive 5G investments.
12:41From XR headsets waiting for an actual consumer use case,
12:45to AI laptops carrying steep price premiums in a price sensitive market.
12:50India Mobile Congress shows us the bleeding edge,
12:53but the road from tech demo glamour to everyday utility still remains long and unproven.
13:00Remember, as technologies are evolving, so are these events.
13:04They're becoming more about enterprise tech rather than consumer technologies.
13:07And hopefully you liked some of the showcase that we got to you on the show.
13:11You can always write to us with your suggestions what you would want to see in our future episodes.
13:16And as for the IMC26, we are saying goodbye and more tech coming up on the show.
13:34Now for us, the holy grail of portable computing has been all about these ultra portable gaming machines
13:41that can do your daily tasks and also run AAA games.
13:45However, they have come with their set of compromises like sometimes the fan noise is too loud,
13:50the thermals might be overclocking and also the battery drains kind of fast.
13:56But ASUS claims their 2026 ROG Zephyrus G14 rewrites all of those rules.
14:02But does all of that real-world performance really translate when you look at the spec sheet of this beast
14:09is what we are trying to find out in our review of the Zephyrus G14 on the Tech Today Show.
14:15So, let's start.
14:18Now right out of the box, the Zephyrus G14 feels exceptionally premium.
14:22Asus has crafted this chassis out of CNC machined aluminium in an understated grey finish.
14:29It is 24% stiffer than the older iterations meaning virtually zero flex on the keyboard deck
14:34even when pressing down hard during heated gaming sessions.
14:37At just 1.59cm thick and tipping the scales at precisely 1.5kg,
14:44it slides into an everyday backpack with ease of a conventional business ultrabook.
14:49On the lid, Asus has swapped out the dot matrix display for an updated slash LED light strip with 35
14:57customizable zones.
14:58The G14 gives you full-size USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, a secondary Type-C port and
15:06even a full-size UHS-II SD card reader.
15:09The single-zone RGB backlighting on the keyboard is subtle, has snappy feedback and the oversized glass trackpad offers crisp
15:16tactile clicks.
15:18The key travel may be an issue for smaller hands as I struggled at times.
15:25The 3K resolution panel delivers good pixel density across the 14 inches.
15:29Because it's an OLED panel, blacks are infinite and contrast is practically limitless.
15:35With peak HDR brightness reaching up to 1100 nits, movie streaming and video editing looks sublime.
15:41Even gaming on this feels smooth thanks to the buttery 120Hz refresh rate
15:46paired with an ultra-fast 0.2ms response time.
15:50What that means in plain terms is zero visible ghosting or motion blur during rapid mouse swipes.
15:57Plus, thanks to dedicated NVIDIA G-Sync support on an OLED panel, tearing and stuttering are non-existent.
16:04The six-speaker array with dual-force-canceling woofers and Dolby Atmos provides thumping bass
16:09that extends down to 100Hz, producing surprisingly full, punchy room audio that rivals the best ultrabooks on the market.
16:20Now, powering this package is the latest ultra 9-core processor with 50 tops of neural processing
16:27and also 16 cores dedicated for all of the CPU work that you will require on this laptop.
16:34On the graphics side, you get the NVIDIA's latest Blackwell generation GeForce RTX 5070 GPU running at up to 115
16:43watts with dynamic boost,
16:45backed by 32 gigs of high-speed LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive.
16:53In Antutu, the G14 notched up an impressive 1.51 million points with the Core Ultra 9 and the RTX
17:005070 pulling the lion's share of the load.
17:03In Geekbench 7, these are the single and multi-core scores. What does this mean for everyday users?
17:08Basically, it translates to effortless code compilation, seamless multitasking with dozens of browser tabs and instant app launches.
17:17In fast-twitch esports titles like Ballorant, the laptop delivered blistering frame rates that max out at 120Hz screen without
17:25breaking a sweat.
17:26The vapor chamber and the tri-fan cooling system with liquid metal on the CPU keeps heat away from the
17:31keyboard deck,
17:32though fan noise does become noticeable when you are pushing it in turbo mode.
17:38Now, here's an honest caveat that the potential buyer needs to understand.
17:42While you have the 250-watt brick that powers the device and gives you seamless gaming if you have power
17:47on,
17:48when you're on battery, things are a little different and might disappoint you.
17:52Furthermore, while the 14-inch screen is good, if you are a serious competitive shooter player,
17:57the smaller display real estate can feel cramped.
18:00So, spotting an enemy at a distance on a smaller screen is really difficult,
18:04which is why I recommend either a 15 or a 16-inch display.
18:08The 73-Wh battery pack inside delivers great battery life for day-to-day web browsing,
18:13writing, documents and streaming shows at balanced power profiles.
18:17The laptop easily stretched across to full working days on intermittent use for me.
18:23When you do need the juice, the 250-watt barrel charger brings you from a flash to 50% in
18:29just 30 minutes.
18:30What's the advantage here? That you do not need to lug the charger everywhere
18:33because this one cuts with high-charge USB ports, C-type, which you can use to charge the laptop and
18:39it's also fast.
18:40So, what is our final take on the Tech Today show?
18:43I feel the Zephyrus G14 isn't meant for the hardcore gamer or someone who isn't competitive e-sports
18:49because for them, a bigger screen is more appropriate.
18:52The smaller 14-inch screen is more for people who are taking this one to the office or have a
18:57corporate lifestyle
18:58but also want a profile that can do hardcore gaming on a portable machine.
19:03Because remember, the G14 has all of the specifications. Yes, it is on the pricier side, so not very affordable.
19:09But this one stands in a league of its own and something that people who want versatility in their laptop
19:17should consider this.
19:23Now, whenever I go looking for a good pair of premium headphones in the market, I have two simple rules.
19:29Give me sound that will just blow me away and also offer me batteries that will not die out of
19:34very soon.
19:35And the new Sennheiser Momentum 5 has a lot of character.
19:39It has the ANC, it has high-resolution audio and also packs in a good battery.
19:44But what this one offers is something that other headphones in this category do not offer.
19:49And that is a replaceable battery.
19:52And at around Rs.40,000, this makes a good option in the market where other premium headphones cost upward
19:58of Rs.40,000.
19:59So, is this one really the headphones that you should go for if you're looking for an option under 40K
20:04and also offers some premium features?
20:07Let's find out in our review of the new Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless.
20:13Now, these headphones are unmistakably premium.
20:16The Momentum 5 weighs around 290 grand, so this isn't an ultra-light pair of headphones,
20:22but I did not find it particularly cumbersome to carry around.
20:25The fit is snug without feeling excessively tight and the adjustable headband made it easy for me to get a
20:32comfortable fit.
20:32The ear cups rotate 180 degrees, which is particularly useful when you want to take them off and simply rest
20:39them around your neck.
20:42And in terms of the design and the texture, Sennheiser has gone with a very, very safe but yet premium
20:48combination over here.
20:49There is a textured finish which is fabric at the top and there is also a leather-like finish at
20:54the bottom of the headband and also the ear cups.
20:56And one thing I feel that, yes, these are premiums, there's a certain caveat.
21:00If you're buying a lighter color in this series, you will have to deal with a lot of smudges and
21:06the top might get dirty extra soon.
21:08So make sure that if you're buying a color option, go for the darker version.
21:13You get a USB-C cable as well as an audio cable so you aren't completely dependent on Bluetooth.
21:19The controls are also relatively straightforward.
21:22There's just the one physical button over here and the touch controls on the right ear cup handle things like
21:27playback, volume and switching between noise cancellation and transparency.
21:31The double tab lets you move between ANC and transparency which I found particularly useful while travelling.
21:38All of the controls are easy to navigate and you won't have any problem.
21:44The 42mm dynamic drivers deliver a rich and detailed sound and during my listening, one of the things I particularly
21:51liked was the separation.
21:53The overall presentation is enjoyable, although at times I found the treble slightly restrained and the headphones somewhat bass heavy
22:01out of the box.
22:02So if you're somebody who lights an extremely bright sparkling sound, you may want to play around with the equalizer
22:09which is available in the app.
22:12Now the good thing is you get support for codecs like Aptex and Aptex lossless and there is also support
22:18for Dolby Atmos which you can trigger very simply by using your two fingers and double tapping on the right
22:24cup.
22:25However, my recommendation do not keep it on always.
22:28It's only for moments when you are watching movies and that support Dolby Atmos.
22:34So you all are getting the immersive experience and not compromising on your music playback experience as well.
22:42With spatial audio content, you can also notice movement between the left and the right channels which makes supported content
22:49more interesting to watch.
22:50The other big upgrade is noise cancellation.
22:53There are now eight microphones, four on each side and Sennheiser says the new hybrid adaptive ANC offers up to
23:00three times better mid-range noise cancellation than the previous Momentum 4.
23:05And yes, during my experience, it worked great.
23:11And to make the experience overall a bit more immersive and stronger, Sennheiser also offers you a smart control app
23:17which you can download on your phone and play with the settings.
23:20And the setup is straightforward and connecting the headphones to the app virtually took no effort or time at all.
23:26From here, you can customise the sound, use the equaliser, create personalised sound profiles and manage things like ANC and
23:33transparency.
23:33You can also connect multiple devices which is useful if you are switching between your phone and your laptop throughout
23:40the day.
23:42Now, Sennheiser claims that it is offering up to 57 hours of playback time with this one and ANC on.
23:49But during our testing, we got about 43 to 44 hours with ANC on.
23:53So, I still don't think that is bad because that's exactly what you're looking from these headphones, right?
23:59Ample amount of playtime.
24:02Charging the headphones over USB-C is easy.
24:05A full charge takes about two hours while 10 minutes of charging can deliver up to seven hours of playback.
24:10I got around 40 minutes of playback from roughly five minutes of charging.
24:14So, the fast charge system is genuinely useful when you are in a hurry.
24:18But what is truly, truly surprising and something that's really great about these set of headphones is that you can
24:25replace the battery and you do not need to take it to any sort of a service center.
24:29You can do it on your own.
24:31All you have to do is remove the ear pad, open the left ear cup, disconnect the old battery and
24:36put in a replacement using a Phillips screwdriver.
24:39The ear pads are replaceable as well.
24:41And that is a genuinely sensible approach to making a premium electronic product last longer.
24:48So, what's my verdict of the Momentum 5 over here?
24:52Here's my tip.
24:53If you're buying headphones purely for the ANC experience, then the Sony 1000XM6 or the Bose QuietComfort Series is much
25:01better in terms of ANC because those headphones are a class apart in that technology department.
25:07However, if you're looking for a comprehensive music listening experience that is also Rs.10,000 cheaper, then a complete
25:15set of headphones, I would say the Momentum 5,
25:17is a good option.
25:19And what you're getting with this one is a compelling combination of excellent sound, ANC, comfortable premium design, Dolby Atmos
25:26and high quality codec support.
25:28A few things that I would like to see improved.
25:30At times, I found the treble a little subdued, the touch controls also don't always register gentle touches and these
25:37don't appear to be universal problems,
25:39but they are worth knowing if you are looking to spend on this one.
25:43But my bigger takeaway is that the replaceable battery option because most of these premium headphones do not give you
25:48that kind of capability.
25:50And if you want a longer lasting gadget for your audio listening, then I think the Momentum 5 is a
25:58very good option to have that to under Rs.40,000.
26:04Now, we showed you all of that tech and hopefully you liked it and one thing before we close the
26:09show is something I wanted to say.
26:10With the festive season approaching and there are so many of these deals and offers that you will see online,
26:16I just wanted you to be careful because there are many scammers out there that are ready to take advantage
26:22of you because you might make a mistake.
26:25So, stay safe online and next week we will talk about all of this and do a deep dive on
26:30this topic on how you can stay safe.
26:32I'm Cyrus and I will see you next week right here on the Tech Today show.
26:36Till then, stay safe.
