Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and other senior leaders, entered the Supreme Court of India following high-voltage protests on the streets of the national capital. A delegation was granted permission to enter the top court premises after an earlier protest in New Delhi. While a petition on the issue had already been filed by eleven INDIA bloc leaders naming the Election Commission as respondent, speculation arose whether the delegation was attempting to meet the Chief Justice of India. However, procedural protocols mandate prior appointments for meetings with the Chief Justice, who had previously declined an unscheduled meeting and directed that grievances be filed formally through a petition. Legal observers and analysts noted that the presence of the leaders inside the top court's corridors appears largely symbolic or aimed at signing legal formalities before the registrar ahead of the court hearing scheduled for the following day.

00:01Let's get you the latest images coming in right now.
00:04We're interrupting our packaging to get you these images of Rahul Gandhi right now inside the Supreme Court.
00:10Rahul Gandhi there with Abhishek Manu Singh, with Malikar Shunkargi inside the Supreme Court.
00:15They've been allowed in, it looks like.
00:17These leaders have made their way inside right now.
00:21The petition has already been filed, so it's a question about whether they're going to be seeking a meeting with
00:27the CGI at this point.
00:29But you can see that the Supreme Court is packed right now with Congress leaders who've all gathered there.
00:35Rahul Gandhi is standing in all likelihood waiting to meet with the CGI.
00:41Even as the protest has come to an end on the streets of the national capital, Rahul Gandhi delayed a
00:46tad bit courtesy of these protests, has now entered the Supreme Court.
00:50The Delhi police hasn't stopped him.
00:52He's been allowed along with a delegation.
00:54As you can see there, there are a handful of leaders who are with Rahul Gandhi.
00:59And we're going to stand by to see if they speak to the media to understand really what their demand
01:04is going to be.
01:05Are they seeking a meeting with the CGI?
01:07And is that something that can actually happen?
01:10For now, from the images on our screens, we've been able to confirm for you that Rahul Gandhi, Malikar Shunkargi,
01:16Abhishek Manu Singh, are currently there in the corridors of the Supreme Court, packed to the brim, as you can
01:24see there.
01:24So the drama continuing in the national capital, now moving into the corridors of the Supreme Court, of the top
01:32court, where Rahul Gandhi has been in fact demanding the CGI's intervention in this matter.
01:38The Chief Justice of India has made it very clear that the doors of the Supreme Court are open to
01:43everyone,
01:43but that he cannot take cognizance of a matter like this, which is the messaging essentially, that you go ahead
01:49and file a petition,
01:50we will look into it as the court always does on every issue that reaches us.
01:55The plea has already been filed by Rahul Gandhi's team because of the delay that he faced in reaching the
02:00spot.
02:00Now Rahul Gandhi and Karge are inside the Supreme Court.
02:05You can see them making their way further in with a ton of Congress leaders who seem to be also
02:10following.
02:11Munish Pandey is joining us with more details on this.
02:14Munish, what's on the agenda?
02:16You know, a petition has already been filed.
02:18And yet Rahul Gandhi, Malikar Shunkargi, a handful of Congress leaders, we understand, are inside the Supreme Court as we
02:23speak.
02:25Well, Achita, in the past we have seen that there has been a surprise element by Rahul Gandhi,
02:30be it the protest at Lee Meridian or at other places.
02:34In the last one week, we have seen that at least twice he has given the surprise element.
02:39I think today's surprise element was that after he went to Supreme Court with the Congress workers,
02:47then again sat in a bus and take a detour.
02:50But just when the bus reached Mundi House, I think he went with some of the Congress leaders,
02:58including Malikar Shunkargi, and as of now, he is in Supreme Court.
03:02Maybe inside the Supreme Court, he may sign some documents or give some documents before the registrar.
03:10But as of now, Malikar Shunkargi along with Rahul Gandhi, they are inside the Supreme Court.
03:17And Achita, everything was symbolic today.
03:19Going to Supreme Court because CGI had already suggested in his letter that he should file a petition.
03:26There was a petition filed by 11 leaders, including the India Bloc leaders, before the Supreme Court.
03:32The respondent in that particular petition was the Election Commission.
03:38But after filing the petition, Rahul Gandhi going back to Supreme Court, it is just symbolic for now.
03:46He may sign some documents, he may go to registrar office, but more than that, he can't do much at
03:51Supreme Court.
03:52So, an attempt, Munish, by Rahul Gandhi to meet with the CGI, is that the messaging here?
04:00It won't be the case, Achita, because if you have to meet the Chief Justice of India,
04:05you need to have a prayer appointment. You can't just barge in at CGI's office.
04:10So, that can't be the case.
04:12And especially last night when CGI refused to meet Rahul Gandhi,
04:17saying that he should, you know, file a petition.
04:20And already a petition has been filed before the Supreme Court.
04:23So, it won't be an attempt.
04:24My understanding is that it won't be an attempt to meet the CGI,
04:27because there is no protocol which allows any person to meet the Chief Justice of India
04:33without a prayer appointment.
04:35And in this case, there was no prayer appointment taken by Rahul Gandhi and Mallika Arjun Khadge.
04:40The request earlier, which was sent by Rahul Gandhi, was already rejected by the CGI.
04:45So, I think he will go to the registrar office, may give some documents,
04:49or may sign some documents, but he won't be attempting to meet the CGI.
04:54That is my understanding, is at this point of time.
04:57Okay, so, at this point, no clarity on exactly what Rahul Gandhi is doing.
05:02There, look, permission was granted for him and a delegation along with him to enter into the Supreme Court.
05:07He may have been delayed, but with that permission being granted,
05:10Rahul Gandhi is chosen to go inside.
05:13Now, the question is, what's really on the agenda?
05:15We understand that Mallika Arjun Khadge is there.
05:17Priyanka Gandhi, D.K. Shiv Kumar are all currently inside in the Supreme Court with Rahul Gandhi.
05:23Now, is this just mere symbolism?
05:26Because he was granted permission, he decided to go inside the Supreme Court,
05:29but the petition has already been filed on his behalf by his legal team.
05:34Tomorrow, the case comes up for hearing as well.
05:37So, as far as, you know, the meeting the CGI is concerned,
05:41that Munish has confirmed for us, it's easier said than done.
05:44It cannot just happen with Rahul Gandhi landing up in the Supreme Court.
05:48You have to seek a prior appointment.
05:49The CGI has made it very clear that, look, anyone who comes to the Supreme Court,
05:53I can go ahead and help you.
05:56The Supreme Court's doors are open for everyone, but that's pretty much it.
06:00The CGI in his personal capacity cannot do much.
06:03As we show you all the images that are coming in,
06:05you can see considerable chaos right now in the Supreme Court.
06:09Crowds that have gathered there, Congress, opposition, MPs who are inside,
06:13only a chosen few have been allowed inside.
06:15But there's a huge security blanket as Rahul Gandhi is making his way
06:19through the corridors of the Supreme Court right now.
06:22Let's stand by, wait and see if Rahul Gandhi will be willing
06:25to also interact with the media and give us a sense, really,
06:29of what his plan is, his game plan is, going forward in the next 24 hours.
06:34Tomorrow, is the focus going to be completely on the hearing in the Supreme Court,
06:39or will there be another protest planned tomorrow?
06:43Munish Pandey continues to get us the latest updates on this.
06:47As we get these images, Munish, of the chaos inside the Supreme Court
06:51as Rahul Gandhi makes his way in with the other MPs who have been allowed inside.
06:56You know, there was permission that was granted for Rahul Gandhi
06:58to go into the Supreme Court.
07:00A handful of them were allowed to go in.
07:02So is this merely symbolism now that the petition has already been filed?
07:07Well, Achita, it can be seen in two ways.
07:10One is what we saw on the first day of protest
07:14when Rahul Gandhi went to the Akashwani building
07:18and other India bloc leaders were detained by the police.
07:21In this case today, what we are seeing is that
07:23again there are Congress leaders with Rahul Gandhi.
07:26There is Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallika Arjun Thadget,
07:30Digvijay Singh and Shashi Tharoor.
07:32These are the leaders accompanying Rahul Gandhi.
07:34Whether there are India bloc leaders like Achilles Yadau, Tejasvi Yadau,
07:39Mamata Vainal, these leaders are with Congress or not,
07:42it is yet to be seen.
07:43So again, there is an attempt to portray the image
07:46that Congress is at the forefront of fighting
07:49not only the central government
07:50but also demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar
07:54and going ahead with the petition which has been already filed.
07:58So they have reached, most of the Congress leaders have reached
08:00but whether there are India bloc leaders or not,
08:02that is yet to be seen, it will have a different political implications
08:06as far as this particular Akshita development is concerned
08:10because most of the India bloc leaders,
08:13Rahul Gandhi, you know, was at Akashwani Gawan
08:17and other India bloc leaders were detained by the police.
08:20India bloc leaders were not very happy, including Achilles Yadau.
08:24Now, what will be the political implication?
08:26It is yet to be seen.
08:27Second, Rahul Gandhi reaching Supreme Court
08:30after a petition has been filed,
08:32it doesn't make much sense.
08:34As of now, I spoke to several, you know, legal experts also.
08:39What they are saying is that once the petition has been filed,
08:42it will be accepted by the Supreme Court
08:43and the proper hearing will take place.
08:47Petitioner reaching the Supreme Court
08:49before the matter is being heard,
08:50it doesn't make much sense,
08:52but it might be symbolic, Achita, because...
08:54It's about the optics, essentially.
08:57Thanks, Munish, for those details.
08:59We're going to stand by for any reaction.
09:01Just going to continue on this
09:02to see if the Congress Chief, Malik Arjun Karge, responds,
09:05but doesn't look like he's going to speak.
09:07The opposition MPs making their way out from the Supreme Court.
09:11Now, a dramatic day of protests.
09:13The action still not coming to an end, ladies and gentlemen.
09:16We're going to continue our rolling coverage
09:18and getting you all of the updates
09:20that are coming in right now from Delhi
09:21as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Malik Arjun Karge
09:24and several others are now in the Supreme Court.
