Chief Justice of India has rejected a request by INDIA bloc leaders for a meeting to submit a representation regarding the Special Investigation Report and Chief Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar. In a response sent via email, the Supreme Court clarified that the Chief Justice cannot entertain political meetings or representations on the administrative side as the matter is sub judice before the court. The CJI suggested that opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, are free to approach the Supreme Court on the judicial side by filing a petition to protect their rights. Multiple petitions concerning the issue have already been moved by various political leaders, even as protests and detentions continue across the national capital.

00:00Breaking news now coming in as the protests continue, so do the detentions that continue in the national capital Delhi
00:10itself as we speak.
00:11Now sources have come out to say the Chief Justice of India, Justice Thurya Khand, has rejected the India bloc
00:17leader's request for a meeting to submit a representation,
00:21explaining the reasons for the decision in a response sent to them via mail.
00:25Remember, they met the President two days ago and then they had said come out after meeting the President that
00:32they will be presenting an entire report to the Supreme Court
00:36and that seems to have been, with the meeting that they had requested with the Chief Justice, that seems to
00:42have now been declined and rejected by the CJI himself.
00:46Now let's first listen in to what Rahul Gandhi has had to say and before that however we are being
00:54joined by our colleague
00:55Anisha Mathur. Let's take this question up to her.
00:58Anisha, what exactly are we learning at this given point about the CJI rejecting the India bloc's request to meet?
01:07Well, Sisha, the Supreme Court, the sources that are telling us is that the reply has been sent to the
01:16opposition leaders rejecting the request to meet.
01:20Now remember, the opposition leaders wanted to give a representation regarding the SIR and the CEC Gyanesh Kumar
01:28and the Supreme Court has effectively said that because this matter is subjudic before the court
01:33and the Chief Justice himself is sitting on that bench, he cannot entertain any representation outside of what is actually
01:43before the court.
01:44But he's in fact suggested that if Rahul Gandhi and Malik Arjun Khardyye want to be heard on the issue,
01:49they can file a petition on this matter. The leaders are free to approach the court on the judicial side
01:56for the protection of their rights.
01:58Now, we'll have to wait and see whether they move any petitions before the Supreme Court because remember when it
02:07comes to the SIR,
02:09there are multiple petitions filed by various leaders in the India bloc including Mamata Banerjee, leaders of the TNC, Manoj
02:19Jha,
02:19and several others have moved petitions when it comes to the SIR issues. So we'll have to wait and see
02:25now what happens because the Chief Justice very clearly saying that this is
02:29not an issue that he can entertain in his capacity as the Chief Justice on the Administrator side. He cannot
02:39entertain a political meeting.
02:43Right Anisha, thank you for bringing us those details.
