00:00Hello there, welcome to your week ahead forecast from the Met Office. Temperatures by day will
00:05be generally above average through the next few days. It turns chilly by night through
00:09the middle part of the week. Let me take you through the bigger picture. Currently you
00:13can see these warmer colours representing some warmer air, some muggy conditions covering
00:19most of the UK with low pressure sitting towards the north west and tracking quite quickly
00:24towards the north of Scotland. This cold front here will bring some heavy downpours into
00:29Tuesday morning and some strong winds clearing very quickly. And then high pressure casts
00:34an influence over the weather into the early hours of Wednesday morning but all eyes are
00:39on the west there where yes the winds will really pick up some strength, gales if not severe
00:43gales towards the north west, some strong gusts and another weather front bringing outbreaks
00:47of rain. This one will be slower moving. It will gradually push down towards the south east
00:53taking with it the warmer air so the air turns fresher from the north west but you're not
00:58likely to see the rain across the south east until Friday and then it will clear with showers
01:03to follow. So let's just pick up on what's happening on Tuesday morning. Here's that band of cloud
01:08and rain heavy at times particularly across northern England and southern and eastern Scotland
01:12showery further south. Winds will still be fairly blustery gusty over the hills and mountains
01:17but it's clearing quite quickly. Then showers will move in across Scotland, Northern Ireland, some for
01:22northern England, the far north of Wales and yes you could see some heavy downpours, the risk of hail
01:28perhaps even the outside chance of thunder. Blustery breeze as well and these showers will remain
01:33frequent across Scotland. You may find a better end to the day across Northern Ireland and a pretty
01:38decent afternoon to come across England and Wales. A few residual showers but also some sunshine.
01:43Take a look at these temperatures well above average for this time of year coming in 19 to 22 Celsius
01:49anywhere from say east Wales towards eastern counties of England. For southern and central Scotland
01:54the mid-teens Northern Ireland also through the afternoon rising to probably around 15 Celsius
01:59but struggling to around 13 or 14 towards the northwest of Scotland with that stronger wind
02:04and also some wet weather from time to time. Now into Tuesday evening yes a chilly night temperatures
02:10dipping down to single figures across many areas. A slight ridge of high pressure but let's look
02:15towards the west. This is where the winds are going to pick up some strength. We're expecting
02:18gales through into Wednesday morning but also some fairly strong gusts as well. So this is
02:25the gust graphic here and notice these dark pinks just moving towards the Outer Hebrides. That's
02:30where we're likely to see those strongest winds around lunchtime on Wednesday. So a brief spell
02:36of very strong windy weather before all of this then pushes ever northeastwards. But it will be gusty
02:43over the hills and mountains yet again. Breezy further south, windy across more central and northern
02:48areas with some outbreaks of rain. This is the warm front first thing on Wednesday bringing a little
02:54rain towards the north of Scotland. Always more in the way of clouds towards more northern and western
02:58areas through the morning and it could be a bit damp in places. A bright start across much of England
03:03and Wales. A warm one yet again but the winds will pick up from the west. Behind me is the
03:08cold front
03:09and this will slowly move in later on on Wednesday. So for much of the day it will be dry
03:15across England
03:15and Wales with some sunshine coming through. Damp across the highlands of Scotland then probably by
03:21around 1-2 o'clock in the afternoon. The first of the rain arriving across the western isles. Eventually
03:27that rain rolling in across northern Ireland through the afternoon western Scotland and then we could see
03:32the clouds thickening ahead of it across some parts of England and Wales. Particularly towards the west
03:36where we could see a little bit of showeryness. But generally speaking further east, the east midlands,
03:41eastern counties. Here some warm conditions to end the day and also some brighter breaks.
03:46Temperatures still 18 to 20 degrees Celsius and 17 across the eastern side of Scotland and northeast
03:52England. Temperatures could be slightly higher relative to Tuesday across northern Ireland and western
03:57Scotland as well. We are caught between the warm front towards the north there and the cold front
04:01here so we are in warm sector conditions. So there could be clouds say shrouding the hills and mountains
04:07towards the west. The air is fairly moist. Winds again will be a feature of the weather through the
04:13afternoon and as I said those gusts could reach up to 60, 70 perhaps even 80 miles an hour across
04:19the far
04:19northwest through the middle part of the day. So through Wednesday evening, here's that weather front.
04:25Notice the squeeze on the ice bars and gusty over those hills and mountains and slowly moving down
04:31towards northern England covering northern Ireland as we head into Thursday morning. A breezy start to the
04:38day further south as well and those showers then falling towards the northwest as that front clears.
04:44So let's pick up on that cloud and the rain first thing on Thursday. Yes some wet weather to come
04:49if you
04:49are stepping outside first thing and some heavier downpours are possible. At the same time there
04:55will be breaks in shelter across England and Wales but still a cloud moving in from the south and it
05:00could be a bit damp say over the southwest peninsula. The air behind this front is going to be fresher
05:07so
05:08you'll notice the difference across the north and the west of Scotland but the cloud will break here and
05:13yes there will be some showers but also a blustery breeze. So through Thursday we watch as this cloud
05:19and rain gradually pushes in across the far north of England, the Isle of Man, Anglesey and then West
05:26Wales. We could see a clearance coming in later across northern Ireland, maybe Belfast and Newry just
05:31catching on to that rain until a little bit later. But further south this is where we continue under that
05:38warmer air, 20, 21 degrees Celsius and there will be some breaks in the cloud whereas towards the north
05:44of that weather front only 12 or 13 degrees Celsius. And notice along that weather front we could see
05:50some stronger winds but also some heavy downpours. So that's a picture on Thursday. Through Thursday
05:57evening we continue to watch as that weather front moves its way southwards taking away that warm air.
06:03The air turns chillier, fresher from the north and a slight ridge comes in as well although still some
06:10showers. So Friday morning starts with some rain across East Anglia, eastern counties of England as
06:16well as the East Midlands, the southeast but it is clearing. Sunshine behind, still some showers filing
06:22in with a northwesterly wind, a cooler wind. So in shelter you'll see some brighter breaks, some sunshine
06:28through the afternoon. These showers more so across the north and the west exposed to that breeze.
06:33And look at these temperatures, a good 6 degrees lower across some parts of England and Wales and
06:38a fresh day across Scotland and Northern Ireland with frequent showers and temperatures here probably
06:43around 12 or 13 degrees Celsius. But into the weekend initially we do have high pressure just
06:51drifting in from the west. So another weather type as we enter the weekend. So after a warm start by
06:57day,
06:58yes it does turn fresher through the latter part of the week. There will be some rain around,
07:02some sunshine as well and then some drier weather as we enter the weekend. Wherever you are,
07:07have a great week and I'll see you again soon.
