00:21When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:28right, he will preserve his life. For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious
00:40of my sin. Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:51The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
01:01not reject.
01:06Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:13confess our many sins and wickedness. We should not justify nor hide them before the face of
01:20Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient
01:28heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:39Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:46when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received
01:51at his hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those
02:00things which are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:07Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:13and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:20Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:27We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:33We have offended against your holy laws. We have failed to do those things which we ought
02:40not to have done, and we have done things which we ought not to have done. And so there is
02:46no health in us.
02:49But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:57Restore those who are truly penchant according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:07Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life,
03:15to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:22Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people pardon and peace,
03:28that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:34Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:42Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:47Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:54Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
04:04Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:09For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:19O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:27O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:37Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:43As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
04:52Praise the Lord. The Lord's name be praised.
05:02Psalm 142
05:05To the Lord I cry out. To the Lord I plead for mercy.
05:09I pour out my lament before him. I tell him about my troubles.
05:15Even when my strength leaves me, you watch my footsteps.
05:19In the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me.
05:25Look to the right and see.
05:28No one cares about me. I have nowhere to run. No one is concerned about my life.
05:35I cry out to you, O Lord. I say, you are my shelter, my security in the land of the
05:42living.
05:43Listen to my cry for help, for I am in serious trouble.
05:48Rescue me from those who chase me, for they are stronger than I am.
05:54Free me from prison, that I may give thanks to your name.
05:58Because of me, the godly will assemble, for you will vindicate me.
06:04Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
06:08As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
06:14Amen.
06:21Psalm 143
06:24O Lord, hear my prayer. Pay attention to my plea for help.
06:29Because of your faithfulness and justice, answer me.
06:34Do not sit in judgment on your servant, for no one alive is innocent before you.
06:42Certainly my enemies chase me. They smash me into the ground.
06:46They force me to live in dark regions, like those who have been dead for ages.
06:53My strength leaves me. I am absolutely shocked.
06:59I recall the old days. I meditate on all you have done.
07:04I reflect on your accomplishments.
07:08I spread out my hands to you in prayer. My soul thirsts for you in a parched land.
07:16Answer me quickly, O Lord. My strength is fading.
07:21Do not reject me, or I will join those descending into the grave.
07:27May I hear about your loyal love in the morning, for I trust in you.
07:32Show me the way I should go, because I long for you.
07:37Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord. I run to you for protection.
07:45Teach me to do what pleases you, for you are my God.
07:49May your kind presence lead me into a level land.
07:55O Lord, for the sake of your reputation, revive me.
07:59Because of your justice, rescue me from trouble.
08:04As a demonstration of your loyal love, destroy my enemies.
08:09Annihilate all who threaten my life, for I am your servant.
08:15Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
08:19As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
08:23World without end. Amen.
08:33The Book of Wisdom, Chapter 4.
08:38It is better to be childless with virtue.
08:41For immortality is in the memory of virtue.
08:44Because it is recognised both before God and before men.
08:49When it is present, people imitate it.
08:53They long after it when it has departed.
08:57Throughout all time it marches, crowned in triumph, victorious in the competition for the prizes that are undefiled.
09:06But the multiplying brood of the ungodly will be of no profit, and their illegitimate offshoots will not take deep
09:14root.
09:15Nor will they establish a sure hold.
09:18For even if they grow branches and flourish for a season, standing unsure, they will be shaken by the wind.
09:26They will be uprooted by the violence of winds.
09:29Their branches will be broken off before they come to maturity.
09:33Their fruit will be useless, never ripe to eat and fit for nothing.
09:38For unlawfully conceived children are witnesses of wickedness against parents when they are investigated.
09:46But a righteous man, even if he dies before his time, will be at rest.
09:52For honourable old age is not that which stands its length of time, nor is it its measure given in
09:59years.
10:00But understanding is grey hair to men, and an unspotted life is ripe old age.
10:08Being found pleasing to God, he was loved.
10:11While living among sinners, he was transported.
10:14He was caught away, lest evil should change his understanding, or guile deceive his soul.
10:22For the witchcraft of worthlessness obscures the things which are good.
10:27And the whirl of desire perverts an innocent mind.
10:32Being made perfect quickly, he filled a long time.
10:36For his soul was pleasing to the Lord.
10:40Therefore he hurried out of the midst of wickedness.
10:43But as for the people, seeing and not understanding, not considering this, that grace and mercy are with his chosen.
10:52And that he visits his holy ones.
10:55But a righteous man who is dead will condemn the ungodly, one living.
10:59And youth that is quickly perfected will condemn the many years of an unrighteous man's old age.
11:07For the ungodly will see a wise man's end, and won't understand what the Lord planned for him.
11:14And why he safely kept him.
11:18They will see and they will despise, but the Lord will laugh them to scorn.
11:23After this they will become a dishonoured carcass, and a fruit poach among the dead forever.
11:30Because he will dash them speechless to the ground, and will shake them from their foundations.
11:37They will lie utterly waste.
11:40They will be in anguish, and their memory will perish.
11:43They will come with cowardly fear when their sins are counted.
11:47Their lawless deeds will convict them to their face.
11:52This is the word of the Lord.
11:55Thanks be to God.
12:07Mary said,
12:09My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
12:16because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
12:21For from now on all generations will call me blessed.
12:26Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
12:32From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
12:38He has demonstrated power with his arm.
12:42He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
12:48He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
12:55He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
13:01He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors,
13:09to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
13:14Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
13:19As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
13:23World without end. Amen.
13:32The Gospel according to Saint Luke, chapter 20.
13:37On one of those days, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the good news,
13:43the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
13:48They asked him, Tell us, by what authority do you do these things?
13:53Or who is giving you this authority?
13:56He answered them, I will ask you just one question.
14:00Tell me, the baptism of John, was it from heaven or from men?
14:06They reasoned with themselves, saying, If we say from heaven, they will say, Why didn't you believe him?
14:15But if we say from men, the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
14:22They answered that they did not know where it was from.
14:26Jesus said to them, Then neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
14:32And he began to tell the people a parable.
14:34A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to some farmers, going into another country for a long time.
14:42At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the
14:47vineyard.
14:48But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty.
14:53He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
15:01He sent a third, and they also wounded him and threw him out.
15:07The lord of the vineyard said, What should I do?
15:10I will send my beloved son.
15:12It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.
15:16But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned amongst themselves, saying, This is the heir.
15:21Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15:27They threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
15:31What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
15:34He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.
15:39When they heard it, they said, May it never be.
15:42But he looked at them and said, Then what is this that was written?
15:48The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the chief cornerstone.
15:54Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to
16:01dust.
16:04The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour.
16:10But they feared the people, for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them.
16:17They watched him and sent out spies who pretended to be righteous that they might trap him in something he
16:24said,
16:25so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
16:31They asked him, Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right and are not partial to anyone,
16:38but truly teach the way of God.
16:41Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
16:46But he saw through their craftiness and said to them, Why do you test me?
16:52Show me a denarius whose image and description are on it.
16:59They answered, Caesar's.
17:01He said to them, Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's.
17:09But they were not able to trap him in his words before the people.
17:14They marveled at his answer and was silent.
17:19This is the word of the Lord.
17:22Thanks be to God.
17:33Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
17:36permit your servant to depart in peace.
17:40For my eyes have seen your salvation,
17:42that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
17:47a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
17:51and for glory to your people Israel.
17:56Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
18:00as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
18:04world without end.
18:06Amen.
18:11I believe in God the Father Almighty,
18:15maker of heaven and earth,
18:17and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
18:20who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
18:24born of the Virgin Mary,
18:26suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
18:29was crucified, dead, and buried.
18:32He descended into hell.
18:35On the third day he rose again from the dead.
18:38He ascended into heaven,
18:41and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
18:45From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
18:50I believe in the Holy Spirit,
18:52the Holy Catholic Church,
18:54the communion of saints,
18:56the forgiveness of sins,
18:58the resurrection of the body,
19:01and the life everlasting.
19:03Amen.
19:09The Lord be with you,
19:11and with your spirit.
19:15Let us pray.
19:19Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:22Christ, have mercy upon us.
19:27Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:33Our Father, who is in heaven,
19:37holy is your name.
19:39May your kingdom come.
19:42May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
19:46Give us this day our daily bread.
19:49Forgive us our trespasses,
19:51as we forgive those who trespass against us.
19:56Lead us not into temptation,
19:58but deliver us from evil.
20:00For yours is the kingdom,
20:04the power and the glory,
20:06for ever and ever.
20:08Amen.
20:13O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
20:16and grant us your salvation.
20:22Protect and guide those in authority over us,
20:27and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
20:33Endue your ministers with righteousness,
20:36and make your chosen people joyful.
20:41O Lord, save your people,
20:45and bless your inheritance.
20:49Give peace in our time, O Lord,
20:53because there is none other who fights for us,
20:56but only you, O God.
21:00O God, make clean our hearts within us,
21:04and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
21:16Let us pray.
21:20Grant we beseech you, merciful Lord,
21:23to your faithful people,
21:24pardon and peace,
21:26that they may be cleansed from all their sins,
21:30and serve you with a quiet mind.
21:34Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
21:36Amen.
21:46O God, from whom all holy desires,
21:51all good counsels,
21:52and all just works proceed,
21:54give to your servants that peace
21:57which the world cannot give,
21:59that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
22:03and also that, by you,
22:06we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
22:10may pass our time in rest and quietness.
22:14Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
22:18Amen.
22:23Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
22:26and by your great mercy defend us all from perils and dangers of this night.
22:33For the love of your only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
22:38Amen.
22:42Almighty God, who has given us grace at this time with one accord,
22:47to make our common supplications to you,
22:51and promises that when two or three are gathered together in your name,
22:55you will grant their requests.
22:59Fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of your servants,
23:04as may be most beneficial for them,
23:08granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
23:12and in the world to come life everlasting.
23:16Amen.
23:19May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
23:22and the love of God,
23:23and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
23:26be with us all evermore.
23:29Amen.
