00:04The Gospel of St Luke, Chapter 15, Verses 18 and 19
00:12I will arise and go to my Father, and will say to him,
00:18Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee,
00:22and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
00:29Dearly beloved brethren, the Scripture moves us in sundry places
00:34to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness,
00:40but that we should not disassemble nor clothe them
00:45before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father,
00:49but confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart,
00:56to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same
01:00by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:05And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God,
01:11yet ought we chiefly so to do,
01:14when we assemble and meet together,
01:16to render thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands,
01:20to set forth his most worthy praise,
01:24to hear his most holy word,
01:28and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary,
01:32as well for the body as the soul.
01:37Wherefore, I pray and beseech you,
01:39as many as are here present,
01:41to accompany me with a pure heart and humble voice
01:45to the throne of the heavenly grace,
01:49saying after me,
01:53Almighty and most merciful Father,
01:56we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep.
02:02We have followed too much
02:04the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:09We have offended against thy holy laws.
02:14We have left undone those things which we ought to have done,
02:19and we have done those things we ought not to have done,
02:22and there is no help in us.
02:27But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
02:30miserable offenders.
02:33Spare thou them, O God, who confess their faults.
02:37Restore thou those who are penitent,
02:40according to thy promises declared unto mankind
02:44in Christ Jesus our Lord.
02:47And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,
02:51that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life.
02:57To the glory of thy holy name.
03:00Amen.
03:04Almighty God,
03:05the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
03:08who desireth not the death of a sinner,
03:11but rather that he turn from his wickedness and live,
03:15and has given power and commandment to his ministers
03:19to declare and pronounce to his people,
03:22being penitent,
03:25the absolution and remission of their sins.
03:30He pardoneth and absolveth all
03:32who truly repent
03:34and unfaimly believe his holy gospel.
03:40Wherefore, let us beseech him to grant us true repentance
03:44and his holy spirit,
03:46that those things may please him
03:49which we do at this present,
03:52and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy,
03:56so that at the last we may come to his eternal joy,
04:00through Jesus Christ our Lord.
04:06Amen.
04:09Our Father,
04:11which art in heaven,
04:12hallowed be thy name.
04:14Thy kingdom come.
04:16Thy will be done
04:18as it is in heaven.
04:20Give us this day our daily bread,
04:23and forgive us our trespasses,
04:25as we forgive them the crispness against us.
04:29And lead us not into temptation,
04:32but deliver us from evil,
04:34for thine is the kingdom,
04:36the power and the glory,
04:38for ever and ever.
04:40Amen.
04:44O Lord,
04:45open our lips,
04:47and our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
04:53O God,
04:54make speed to save us.
04:57O Lord,
04:58make haste to help us.
05:02Glory be to the Father,
05:04and to the Son,
05:05and to the Holy Ghost,
05:07as it was in the beginning,
05:09is now,
05:10and ever shall be,
05:12world without end.
05:14Amen.
05:17Praise ye the Lord,
05:20the Lord's name be praised.
05:25O come,
05:26let us sing unto the Lord,
05:28and let us heartily rejoice
05:30in the strength of our salvation.
05:34Let us come before his presence
05:36with thanksgiving,
05:38and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
05:42For the Lord is a great God,
05:44and a great King above all gods.
05:48In his hand are all the corners of the earth,
05:50and the strength of the hills is his also.
05:54The sea is his,
05:56and he made it,
05:57and his hands prepared the dry land.
06:01O come,
06:02let us worship and hold home,
06:04and kneel before the Lord,
06:06our Maker.
06:08For he is the Lord our God,
06:10and we are the people of his pasture,
06:13and the sheep of his hand.
06:17Today,
06:18if you will hear his voice,
06:20harden not your hearts,
06:21as in the provocation,
06:23and as in the day of temptation,
06:25in the wilderness,
06:28when our fathers tempted us,
06:31proved us,
06:31and saw our works.
06:35Forty years long,
06:36I was grieved with this generation,
06:38and said,
06:38it is a people that do err in their hearts,
06:41and they have not known my ways.
06:45And to whom I swore in my wrath,
06:48that they should not enter into my rest.
06:53Glory be to the Father,
06:55and to the Son,
06:55and to the Holy Ghost,
06:57as it was in the beginning,
06:59is now,
07:00and ever shall be,
07:02world without end.
07:04Amen.
07:15Psalm 144
07:18Blessed be the Lord my strength,
07:20who teaches my hands to war,
07:22and my fingers to fight,
07:25my hope and my fortress,
07:27my castle and deliverer,
07:29my defender in whom I trust,
07:31whom subdueth my people,
07:33that is under me.
07:35Lord, what is man,
07:37that thou hast such respect unto him,
07:40or the son of man,
07:41that thou so regardest him?
07:44Man is like a thing of naught,
07:47his time passeth away like a shadow.
07:51Bow thy heavens, O Lord,
07:53and come down,
07:54touch the mountains,
07:55and they shall smoke,
07:57cast forth thy lightning,
07:59and tear them,
08:00shoot out thine arrows,
08:01and consume them,
08:03send down thine hand
08:05from above.
08:06Deliver me,
08:07and take me out of the great waters,
08:09from the hand of strange children,
08:12whose mouth talketh of vanity,
08:15and their right hand is a right hand of wickedness.
08:19I will sing a new song unto thee,
08:21O God,
08:22and sing praises unto thee upon a ten-stringed lute.
08:27Thou hast given victory unto kings,
08:29and hast delivered David thy servant from the peril of the sword.
08:34Save me,
08:36and deliver me from the hand of strange children,
08:39whose mouth talketh of vanity,
08:41and their right hand is a right hand of iniquity.
08:44That our sons may grow up as the young plants,
08:48and that our daughters may be as the polished corners of the temple.
08:53That our garners may be full and plenteous with all manner of store.
08:58That our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets.
09:04That our oxen may be strong through labour.
09:07That there be no decay,
09:08no leading into captivity,
09:10and no complaining in our streets.
09:13Happy are the people that are in such a case.
09:16Yea,
09:17blessed are the people who have the Lord for their God.
09:21Glory be to the Father,
09:23and to the Son,
09:24and to the Holy Ghost,
09:25as it was in the beginning,
09:28is now,
09:29and ever shall be,
09:30world without end.
09:32Amen.
09:36Psalm 145
09:38I will magnify thee,
09:41O God,
09:41my King,
09:42and I will praise thy name forever and ever.
09:46Every day will I give thanks unto thee,
09:49and praise thy name forever and ever.
09:52Great is the Lord,
09:54and marvellous worthy to be praised.
09:56There is no end of his greatness.
10:00One generation shall praise thy works unto another,
10:03and declare thy power.
10:06As for me,
10:07I will be talking of thy worship,
10:09thy glory,
10:10thy praise,
10:11and wondrous works,
10:13so that men shall speak of the might of thy marvellous acts,
10:18and I will also tell of thy greatness.
10:22The memorial of thine abundant kindness shall be showed,
10:26and men shall sing of thy righteousness.
10:29The Lord is gracious and merciful,
10:32long-suffering,
10:33and of great goodness.
10:36The Lord is loving unto every man,
10:38and his mercy is over all his works.
10:42All thy works praise thee, O Lord,
10:45and thy saints give thanks unto thee.
10:47They show the glory of thy kingdom,
10:50and talk of thy power,
10:52that thy power,
10:54thy glory,
10:55and mightiness of thy kingdom
10:56might be known unto men.
11:00Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
11:03and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.
11:07The Lord upholdeth all such as all,
11:11and lifteth up all those that are done.
11:15The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord,
11:18and thou givest them their meat in due season.
11:22Thou openest to thine hand,
11:24and fillest all things living with plenteousness.
11:28The Lord is righteous in all his ways,
11:31and holy in all his works.
11:33The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him.
11:37Yea, all such as call upon him faithfully.
11:42He will fulfill the desire of all them that fear him.
11:46He will also hear their cry,
11:48and will help them.
11:50The Lord preserveth all them that love him,
11:54but scattereth abroad all the ungodly.
11:58My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord.
12:01Let all flesh give thanks unto his holy name
12:05for ever and ever.
12:08Glory be to the Father,
12:10and to the Son,
12:11and to the Holy Ghost,
12:12as it was in the beginning,
12:15is now, and ever shall be,
12:18world without end.
12:19Amen.
12:24Psalm 146
12:26Praise the Lord, O my soul.
12:29While I live, I will praise the Lord.
12:32Yea, as long as I have any being,
12:35I will sing praises unto my God.
12:39O put not your trust in princes,
12:41nor in any child of man,
12:43for there is no help in them.
12:46For when the breath of man goeth forth,
12:48he shall turn again to his earth,
12:50and then all his thoughts perish.
12:54Blessed is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help,
12:57and whose hope is in the Lord his God,
13:01who made heaven and earth,
13:03the sea and all that therein is,
13:06who keepeth his promise for ever,
13:09who helpeth them to right that suffer wrong,
13:12who feedeth the hungry.
13:15The Lord looseth men out of prison,
13:18the Lord giveth sight to the blind,
13:21the Lord helpeth them that are fallen,
13:24the Lord careth for the righteous,
13:27the Lord careth for the strangers,
13:30he defendeth the fatherless and widowed,
13:32as for the way of the ungodly,
13:35he turned it upside down.
13:38The Lord thy God, O Zion,
13:41shall be king for evermore,
13:43and throughout all generations.
13:46Glory be to the Father,
13:48and to the Son,
13:49and to the Holy Ghost,
13:51as it was in the beginning,
13:53is now, and ever shall be,
13:55world without end.
13:57Amen.
14:02The Book of Wisdom, Chapter 6
14:06Hear therefore, you kings, and understand.
14:09Learn, you judges, of the ends of the earth.
14:12Give ear, you rulers,
14:14who have dominion over many people,
14:16and make your boast in multitudes of nations,
14:19because your dominion was given to you from the Lord,
14:23your sovereignty from the Most High.
14:26He will search out your works,
14:28and will inquire of your plans,
14:30because being officers of his kingdom,
14:33you didn't judge rightly,
14:36nor did you keep the law,
14:37nor did you walk according to God's counsel.
14:40He will come upon you awfully and swiftly,
14:43because a stern judgment comes on those
14:46who are in high places.
14:50For the man of low estate may be pardoned in mercy,
14:54but mighty men will be mightily tested.
14:57For the Sovereign Lord of all
14:59will not be impressed with anyone,
15:01neither will he show deference to greatness.
15:04Because it is he who has made both small and great,
15:08and cares about them all equally.
15:11But the scrutiny that comes upon the powerful is strict.
15:16Therefore my words are to you,
15:18O princes,
15:19that you may learn wisdom and not fall away.
15:22For those who have kept the things that are holy in holiness
15:25will be made holy.
15:27Those who have been taught them
15:29will find out what to say in defence.
15:33Therefore set your desire on my words,
15:36long for them,
15:37and your princes will be instructed.
15:40Wisdom is radiant as does not fade away,
15:45easily being seen by those who love her,
15:47and found by those who seek her.
15:50She anticipates those who desire her,
15:53making herself known.
15:55He who rises up early to seek her
15:58will have no difficulty,
16:00for he will find her sitting at his gate.
16:03For to think upon her is perfection of understanding,
16:07and he who watches for her
16:09will quickly be free from care,
16:11because she herself goes around,
16:14seeking those who are worthy of her,
16:16and in their paths
16:18she appears to them graciously.
16:20In every purpose she meets them.
16:24For her true beginning is desire for instruction,
16:28and desire for instruction is love.
16:31Love is observant of her laws.
16:35To give heed to her laws confirms immortality.
16:39Immortality brings closeness to God.
16:42So then, desire for a kingdom
16:44promotes to a kingdom.
16:48If therefore you delight in thrones and scepters,
16:51you princes of peoples,
16:53honour wisdom,
16:54that you may reign for ever.
16:58But what is wisdom?
17:00And how did she come into being,
17:02I will declare.
17:03I won't hide mysteries from you,
17:05but I will explore from her first beginning,
17:08bringing the knowledge of her into clear light,
17:11and I will not pass by the truth.
17:15This is the word of the Lord.
17:17Thanks be to God.
17:24We praise thee, O God.
17:26We acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
17:29All the earth does worship thee,
17:32the Father everlasting.
17:34To thee, O God.
17:36To thee, all angels cry aloud,
17:38the heavens and all the powers therein.
17:42To thee, cherubim and seraphim,
17:45continually do cry,
17:46holy, holy, holy,
17:49holy, holy,
17:50Lord God of Sabael,
17:52heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.
17:57The glorious company of the apostles,
18:00praise thee.
18:02The goodly fellowship of the prophets,
18:05praise thee.
18:06The noble army of martyrs,
18:09praise thee.
18:10The holy church throughout all the world
18:13does acknowledge thee.
18:15The father of an infinite majesty,
18:18thine honourable true and only son.
18:22Also the holy ghost,
18:24the comforter.
18:26Thou art the king of glory, O Christ.
18:29Thou art the everlasting son of the father.
18:34When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man,
18:37thou didst not abel the virgin's womb.
18:41When thou hast overcome the sharpness of death,
18:44thou didst open the kingdom of heaven
18:47to all believers.
18:50Thou sittest at the right hand of God
18:53in the glory of the father.
18:55We believe that thou shalt come
18:58to be our judge.
19:01We therefore pray thee,
19:02help thy servants,
19:04whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
19:07Make them to be numbered with thy sights
19:10in glory everlasting.
19:14O Lord, save thy people
19:16and bless thine heritage.
19:19Govern them and lift them up for ever.
19:22Day by day we magnify thee,
19:26and we worship thy name
19:28ever, world without end.
19:31Thou saved, O Lord,
19:32to keep us this day without sin.
19:35Lord, have mercy upon us,
19:38have mercy upon us.
19:40Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us,
19:43as our trust is in thee.
19:47O Lord, in thee have I trusted,
19:49let me never be confounded.
19:53Glory be to the Father,
19:55and to the Son,
19:55and to the Holy Spirit,
19:57as it was in the beginning,
19:59is now and ever shall be,
20:02world without end.
20:04Amen.
20:09The second epistle to Timothy,
20:12chapter 1.
20:14Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ
20:17through the will of God,
20:19according to the promise of the life
20:21which is in Jesus Christ,
20:22to Timothy, my beloved child,
20:25grace, mercy, and peace
20:28from God the Father
20:29and Christ Jesus our Lord.
20:33I thank God,
20:34whom I serve as my forefathers did,
20:37with a pure conscience.
20:39How unceasing is my memory of you
20:41in my petitions,
20:43night and day longing to see you,
20:45remembering your tears,
20:47that I may be filled with joy,
20:49having been reminded of the sincere faith
20:52that is in you,
20:54which lived first in your grandmother Lois
20:57and your mother Eunice.
20:59And I am persuaded in you also.
21:03For this cause,
21:04I remind you that you should stir up
21:06the gift of God which is in you
21:08through the laying on of my hands.
21:11For God did not give us a spirit of fear,
21:14but of power, love, and self-control.
21:17Therefore, don't be ashamed
21:19of the testimony of our Lord,
21:21nor of me, his prisoner,
21:24but endure hardship for the good news
21:26according to the power of God
21:28who saved us and called us
21:31with a holy calling,
21:32not according to our works,
21:35but according to his own purpose
21:36and grace,
21:38which was given to us in Christ Jesus
21:40before time eternal,
21:42but has now been revealed
21:45by the appearing of our Saviour,
21:47Jesus Christ,
21:48who abolished death
21:49and brought life and immortality to light
21:52through the good news.
21:54For this I was appointed as a preacher,
21:57an apostle,
21:58and as a teacher of the Gentiles.
22:01For this cause,
22:02I also suffer these things.
22:05Yet I am not ashamed,
22:07for I know him who I have believed,
22:10and I am persuaded
22:11that he is able to guard that
22:13which I have committed to him
22:15against that day.
22:18Hold the pattern of sound words
22:20which you have heard from me
22:21in faith and love
22:23which is in Christ Jesus.
22:25That good thing
22:26which was committed to you
22:27guard through the Holy Spirit
22:29who dwells in us.
22:31This you know,
22:32that all who are in Asia
22:34turned away from me,
22:37of whom were Phygelus and Hymogenes.
22:40May the Lord grant mercy
22:42to the house of Onesiphorus,
22:44for he refreshed me
22:46and was not ashamed of my chain.
22:50But when he was in Rome,
22:51he sought me out diligently
22:53and fend me.
22:54The Lord grant him
22:56to find the Lord's mercy
22:57on that day.
22:58And in how many things
23:00he served at Ephesus,
23:02you know very well.
23:06This is the word of the Lord.
23:09Thanks be to God.
23:18Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
23:21for he hath visited
23:22and redeemed his people,
23:25and hath raised up
23:26a mighty salvation for us
23:28in the house of his servant David.
23:32As he spake by the mouth
23:34of his holy prophets,
23:35which have since been
23:36since the world began,
23:38that we should be saved
23:40from our enemies
23:41and from the hand
23:42of all that hate us.
23:44To perform the mercy promised
23:47to our forefathers
23:49and to remember
23:50his holy covenant.
23:52To perform the oath
23:53which he swore
23:54to our forefather Abraham,
23:56that he would give us,
23:58that would be delivered
24:00out of the hand
24:01of our enemies,
24:02might serve him
24:03without fear,
24:05in holiness
24:06and righteousness
24:07before him
24:07all the days
24:09of our life.
24:11And thou, child,
24:13shall be called
24:13the prophet of the highest,
24:15for thou shalt go before
24:17the face of the Lord
24:18to prepare his ways,
24:20to give knowledge
