00:07I have the pleasure to welcome the president of the German National Committee. Hi, welcome.
00:13Hi, good morning Alice. You've been nominated president a year ago. How exciting it is for you
00:20to be here as a president and given the urgency of the climate change, how important is the role
00:28of CIGRE towards your National Committee? Yeah, thank you. I think the meeting is very exciting
00:34for me because half a year ago we were not sure how many people will turn up physically. The world
00:40was thinking after Covid there will be no more physical meetings of that magnitude but we are so
00:45proud to meet the whole world here in one week. So it's such a great success and it is ever
00:50more
00:50important for the energy transition. We are not ahead of time and I think CIGRE will be a key role
00:56for practice sharing. As everybody knows, the substitution of fossil energy is largely related
01:03to electricity. Germany is one of the top leading countries to be engaged in finding solutions. It's
01:08a burning subject in Germany. What are the main projects nowadays in Germany? Can you tell us a
01:15bit about it? You have one minute. Yes, I will try to keep it there. The urgency is of course
01:21a dramatic trend tremendously increased by the shortage of gas now which was not foreseen
01:27but maybe foreseeable. The main key project is connecting even faster offshore wind which is a
01:32great resource of renewables with some level of availability and of course the north-south corridor
01:38projects connecting this bulk energy from the North Sea into the heart of the country into the load
01:44centers. Is it right that you are facing a decline of students interested in the industry despite the
01:51rising demand of on the market and if so how do you manage to attract these young engineers?
01:59Yeah, that's unfortunately the case. We see declining numbers of students in the mint study subjects,
02:07especially also electrical engineering. While we need more, many experienced people will retire in the next
02:13decade. So we will have an info gathering organized by Seagre and Seagre jointly after the session here in
02:20Paris which is free of charge for students. We go to a university city. This year we are in Mannheim
02:25in beginning of October where we repeat the key messages here from the session. Thank you for coming by
02:32and have a great day and have a great session. Thank you very much for having me. Have a nice
02:36day.
