00:00Hello there, good evening. An amber weather warning has been issued for strong winds as
00:05storm Austin approaches, bringing some very unsettled weather as we progress into Friday.
00:10For the time being though, it's a different area of low pressure which has brought us
00:13some wet weather today. This will continue for some areas of Scotland, northern England
00:17as this rain continues to clear northeastwards. It's also another area of rain pushing through
00:22across parts of England and Wales. This could be quite heavy, some strong gusty winds associated
00:27with this as well, but most of it should have cleared by the time we reach the early hours
00:31of Friday, but still some remaining heavy showers across parts of England and Wales. Actually
00:36for many areas we'll see skies clearing away from the odd shower or two pushing through
00:41into the northwest, so that does mean things are going to be fairly chilly to start on
00:45Thursday. Towns and cities widely dropping below 4 to 8 degrees Celsius. So first thing on Thursday
00:52there will be some showers around, also some rain just clinging onto the far northeast of
00:57Scotland. This will clear away through the morning, but there could be some gusty winds
01:00associated with this just before it does clear. And actually a slight ridge of high pressure
01:04builds across the UK, so for many areas it's almost the calm before the storm, turning quite
01:09dry away from the northwest where there could be some showers, plenty of sunny spells elsewhere.
01:14Temperatures fairly similar, it's still going to feel on the chilly side, particularly across
01:18the far north. Temperatures across towns and cities around 11 to 12 degrees Celsius. For some areas
01:24of the south we could just about push into around 15 to 16 degrees Celsius. But then it's really
01:29through the evening where we start to see storm Austin make progress, initially pushing into
01:34southwest England, pushing into Wales, and this area of low pressure will continue to deepen
01:38as it pushes across areas of the UK. So some heavy outbreaks of rain later Thursday through
01:43into Friday, and also some strong gusty winds. And it's through into the early hours of Friday
01:49where we start to see our weather warnings come into force. Amber across much of Cornwall
01:53and yellow for much of southern Wales and southern areas of England. More information on our website
01:59for those. Now although it will bring in some heavy rain, it's also going to bring in some
02:03very strong gusty winds as this area of low pressure continues its way eastwards. So wind speeds
02:09could potentially reach around 60 to 70 miles per hour, certainly around exposed areas of the southwest
02:15where they could even push up to around 80 miles per hour. And those strong winds will transfer
02:19their way eastwards as this system continues to progress eastwards as we head through into Saturday.
02:27So Friday itself, you can see it's going to be a very unsettled day. Some heavy downpours of rain,
02:32especially across southern and eastern Scotland where we do have a yellow warning issued for rain,
02:37where we could see quite widely 20 to 40 millimetres of rain, potentially up to 60 to 80 millimetres of
02:42rain
02:42for some areas. Not only this, but we're going to see quite strong winds across the country,
02:47especially in the south, and this could lead to some difficult driving conditions. So do take care
02:52if you're out and about. Now the storm will eventually clear its way eastward, so that means it will start
02:57to turn a little bit clearer across northern Ireland, southern Scotland, perhaps southwest England
03:02as we progress through into Friday afternoon. But for many areas, it's set to be quite wet and windy
03:07through much of the day, and it's not going to feel very pleasant either. Temperature's not really gaining
03:12much strength through the afternoon as a result of the cloud and rain, temperatures widely between
03:1610 to 14 degrees Celsius. Now, like I mentioned, as that storm pushes its way eastwards, we'll see
03:23some stronger winds around North Sea coasts for a time, some heavy rain before it eventually clears.
03:28Very slight ridge of high pressure following on behind, but then notice behind me, another area of low
03:34pressure pushes into the northwest as we start the weekend. Now at the moment, it's not a named storm,
03:39but there is the potential for it to be. Nevertheless, though, it's going to bring in
03:43another batch of some heavy rain and some strong winds, this time slightly more located towards
03:48the northwest. There's a little bit of forecast uncertainty with the exact track of this low,
03:53so one we do need to keep an eye on. And the best way to do that, keep an eye
03:57on our forecast,
