Israel heads into a crucial parliamentary election for the 26th Knesset, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fighting to retain power amid significant security, political, and economic challenges. Netanyahu faces a major challenge from former Israel Defence Forces chief Gadi Eisenkot. Voters head to the polls weighing key issues, including the Gaza war, security accountability following the 7th of October attack, military conscription policies, and the rising cost of living. Ahead of the vote, United States President Donald Trump endorsed Netanyahu, calling him a warrior prime minister needed to counter Iran. Meanwhile, Netanyahu warned Iran not to disrupt the polling process. Around 7.33 million registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots using paper votes. With 61 seats required to secure a majority in the 120-member Knesset and no single party historically reaching that threshold on its own, coalition arithmetic is set to play a decisive role in determining whether Netanyahu continues in power or faces a government change.

00:21defense forces as voters weigh security failures the war in the gaza also the cost of living and
00:27questions over the government's leadership as well u.s president donald trump has doubled down
00:32on his endorsement of netanyahu telling israelis that bb was a warrior pm also that he should be
00:40re-elected in order to finish the job against iran ahead of voting day netanyahu continues to frame
00:46himself as the leader best equipped to confront iran and its regional proxies as well he has warned that
00:53iran could attempt to disrupt the polls insisting that israel's military is prepared to respond both
00:59defensively and offensively he's also issued a blunt warning to iran do not test israel in netanyahu's
01:06campaign also has featured his association with donald trump underlining the importance of israel
01:11u.s ties under him with coalition arithmetic likely to prove decisive the big question is can
01:18itanyahu retain the power or will voters demand a change in leadership right now let me actually go
01:24across to praneo badia live from israel joining in from jerusalem hi prane graf known well first up give
01:30us an understanding of what makes this election so important uh what are the odds you know at this
01:36point in time that you are reading in right ahead of the election day tomorrow and what are the issues
01:41at hand too good afternoon sakshi right now i am here in the city of jerusalem and inside the parliament
01:50of uh of uh of israel this is called keneset and behind me you can see the election counters accounting
01:56center and let me show you these uh the preparations here first before i could answer your questions
02:01because see these this is the the map of israel all the counting center all these bar charts pie graphs
02:07uh and everything shows that uh the length and breadth of preparation done by the election committee
02:12uh you know uh similar to our election commission they have the election committee uh which is headed
02:17by a supreme court judge uh retired judge and in fact these are the preparations and you can see all
02:21these dots the length and breadth of the israel preparing for the important vote 26th keneset
02:26keneset uh election or the 26th parliamentary election of israel and uh in fact broad spread arrangements
02:32have been made for this uh election around 7.33 million voters are going to cast their vote and
02:38going to decide and there is an interesting electoral history of uh of israel sakshi that no
02:43party has ever secured uh the single largest majority in the israeli parliament and in fact
02:48all the uh the polls all the opinion polls are clearly suggesting that this is this time also this
02:53is not going to be different uh the issues which are dominating right now in fact prime minister
02:58benjamin netanyahu himself who is the longest serving prime minister of israel has become an
03:02issue in this election because the change party or the or the yashar party led by the former idf chief
03:08uh you know gadi eisenkott is also given is giving a call for the change of government uh asking for
03:14the accountability of 7th of october attack also the essential conscription who is going to serve in
03:20the army and who is going to get spared that has become a political politically sensitive issue in
03:25this election rising cost of living uh there's also one of the important issue which is dominating the
03:30discourse here but uh elaborate arrangements have been made uh in israel and uh within few hours
03:35uh the israelis will be voting and they would be voting by ballot paper in israel they don't have
03:41evms uh and in fact you know they they have an interesting arrangements actually that uh at the time
03:46when the voting is on uh and at certain centers they start counting as well so uh the the electoral
03:53outcome is expected to be out uh within the few hours of uh the count a conclusion of counting which
03:59concludes at around 10 p.m uh on 27th of october right pranay so you when you say that it
04:06is going
04:06to be a crucial one for netanyahu's political future what can we expect both if he wins and both if
04:13he
04:13loses also uh there are multiple scenarios which can be expected in this uh election asakshi uh a the
04:24coalition uh led by benjamin netanyahu gets a clear majority then there is no confusion uh if the uh
04:30opposition coalition uh led by gadi eisencott former idf chief if he wins then also there is a clarity but
04:36what if uh no party or no coalition uh able to secure the majority the number is 61 in 120
04:44member
04:44seat uh member uh you know of or the 120 seat parliament of israel you require 61 seats and so
04:52far as i told you that no party has ever secured the single largest majorities in that case the role
04:57of arab parties becomes important and analysts are predicting that there could be a possibility of a
05:03minority government or also possibility of a re-election is also not being ruled out in that
05:08case the prime minister benjamin netanyahu is served for all right thank you so much for getting us all
05:14of those updates keep an eye out on the developments we'll continue to track the israel elections with
