00:00Hello and welcome. Good evening. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today. I'm Akshita Nanda Gopala with the next
00:05one hour. We'll break down the big stories coming in from the southern states. So what have we got lined
00:11up for you this evening? I'll break it down for you. We start off with a worrying news break that's
00:16coming from Tamil Nadu. 17 Tamil Nadu jailbirds on the run. After a daring jailbreak, almost seems like something that's
00:24out of a film scene. They're now out on the streets of Tamil Nadu.
00:28About a handful of them have already been found, have already been taken in but there are still many of
00:34them out there. Questions being asked on law and order on what's happening in Tamil Nadu. Questions being asked of
00:41the Vijay government on this particular incident. We'll get you the latest political reactions on that. Also on the show
00:47this evening we're going to be getting you a sense of what cyclone Arnab looks like. It's headed as we
00:54speak steadily towards the east coast and that means Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
00:58Odisha will be hit. Andhra Pradesh particularly is bracing for the impact of this now very severe cyclonic storm and
01:08we'll get you all the updates on the red alert that's been issued and the precautions that you need to
01:14take if you live along the east coast. So that much more coming your way. Let's begin with the headlines.
01:24The Supreme Court tells Rahul Gandhi another petition is to respond to Election Commission
01:28Affidavit over Vachauri. Pole body denies allegations of CEC making unilateral decisions. Claims Form 6 was not amended.
01:43Congress claims Delhi police denied permission for mock parliament on October 30th where they plan to impeach CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
01:50Senior Congress Neta Casey Veenagopal once again threatens to protest outside Prime Minister's residence. Delhi police denies, says categorically that
01:58permission inside a hotel cannot be granted by us.
02:0717 inmates break out of a Tamil Nadu prison after feigning illness and attacking guards. Several re-arrested five jail
02:15staffers suspended. Opposition slams Vachauri government to a law and order.
02:25Interim relief for actor Imran Khan leave India order now put on hold till November 2nd. Bombay High Court will
02:33hear his plea on that date next.
02:35Imran was asked to leave by October 28th, by tomorrow for attending anti-CEC's term.
02:48India's east coast braces for cyclone Arnav which is intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, putting Andhra Pradesh in Odisha
02:55on high alert. Landfall expected near the Andhra coast tomorrow.
03:06Israel votes to elect its next government. Highest turnout recorded since 1977. Prime Minister Netanyahu casts his vote along with
03:14his wife urges right-wing voters to come out and vote.
03:33And let's begin with a breaking update that's coming in on the SIR exercise in Karnataka which has been a
03:39political bone of contention.
03:40But the final electoral roll has been published. What are the numbers looking like?
03:46Over 1.08 crore voters have been deleted in this final list. In all 4.55 crore names are in
03:55the list.
03:55Essentially, if I were to break down the deletions for you, permanently shifted is about 65 lakh, 19 lakh marked
04:03as absent, 16 lakh, over 16 lakh actually wiped out because they have deceased voters and already enrolled duplicate votes
04:12are at 7 lakh.
04:12So, in all, that comes to over 1 crore. 10 lakh new voters have also been added to the electoral
04:19roll during the claims and objections process.
04:22So, those are the big numbers that we're putting out for you. What is important to highlight right now is
04:27essentially the deletions.
04:29What we're seeing is over 1 crore deletions. It's in line essentially with what we've seen in other states also
04:35as a result of the SIR.
04:36But at this point in Karnataka, that means that 4.55 crore voters are in the final electoral list.
04:44Let's listen in to what the Karnataka Election Commission CEO had to say.
04:49I appeal to all the eligible voters of Karnataka whose names are not there in the electoral roll.
04:55Kindly apply Form 6. After due verification, your name will be definitely added into the electoral roll.
05:00There's been a lot of special drives conducted, special campaigns made, we've been giving a lot of publicity, all the
05:07political parties, the representatives, everybody is cooperating.
05:10So, I appeal. In my opinion, there is no area left without any information in Karnataka regarding this issue.
05:17So, I could definitely believe every eligible voter will apply Form 6.
05:20See, Form 7, the issue was regarding submission of bulk Form 7 for deletions.
05:25I could assure, not even a single vote has been deleted in Karnataka without verification just because some Form 7s
05:32are submitted.
05:33At the same time, some people who have applied for shifting of votes, people have applied for shifting of votes.
05:40If they need to shift the name from one place to other, Form 7 has to be generated.
05:45Suppose somebody needs to be added into X place, then his name in the Y place needs to be deleted.
05:50Beyond that, not even a single vote has been deleted from the draft roll without a speaking order by the
05:57concerned ERO.
05:58Let me bring in Sagai Raj, who's joining us live from Bengaluru with the latest updates.
06:02So, on this, Sagai, good evening.
06:04You know, the SIR has been a big issue and it's led to a political showdown in Karnataka over the
06:10last few weeks and months.
06:11Any reaction that's coming from the Congress on these final numbers and the number of deletions in particular?
06:20So far, the Congress has not reacted, but we have categorically asked the question to the Election Commission on the
06:26controversy surrounded with Form 7.
06:28How many voters have been deleted?
06:29And he has said that whatever the bulk submission of the author list, whether it is from the party or
06:36the BLO or party worker, everything was investigated.
06:41A notice has been issued and thereafter they have taken into consideration.
06:45And he says that none of the bulk author submission from Form 7 has been deleted according to the Election
06:52Commissioner of Karnataka.
06:53So, we are awaiting for a restaurant for the Karnataka government, what they have to say on 1 crore 8
06:59lakhs.
06:59Because this is not just a number, this was a number which was given earlier.
07:04There was close to 5 crore 54 lakh voters much before the SIR enumeration process started in the state of
07:12Karnataka.
07:13Once the process started and they have deleted close to 1 crore 8 lakhs.
07:18And when it comes to Form 7, the number seems to be a little less.
07:21However, they have investigated, the Election Commission claims that they have investigated, the notices have been issued and they have
07:29conducted a trial.
07:30And thereafter, they have come to a conclusion.
07:32Okay, remember that the biggest controversy essentially was over Form 7 in Karnataka.
07:37We'll track the latest political reactions.
07:39Thanks, Agai, for the moment.
07:43Over to our top story here on Super 6.
07:45If you thought jailbreak was just a series of carefully plotted prison escapes, think again.
07:49In Tamil Nadu's Teni district, there's now a real-life episode that's played out.
07:5517 inmates, and we've kind of generated exactly what's happened using the help of AI.
08:0017 inmates put together in one particular sub-jail broke out after overpowering prison staff.
08:06And here's how they did it.
08:08These 17 pretended that they had fallen sick, pretended they were getting an epileptic attack.
08:13And so the guards immediately swooped in, because that's obviously a situation where you have to immediately act.
08:18They immediately swooped in to help 17, were overpowered, and then the prison break happened.
08:25This is 24 hours ago.
08:28Since then, there's been a massive manhunt across Tamil Nadu to nab each and every one of them.
08:33You can only imagine the panic that had spread across Tamil Nadu, because nobody knew where any of these criminals
08:38were.
08:38Many of them, most of them we hear, were in fact under trials.
08:42But having said that, the fact that they plotted this kind of a jailbreak and are out there,
08:47has led to serious questions over law in order, over what's happening in these jails,
08:51the kind of monitoring in these jails.
08:53Those are the questions the opposition is asking.
08:56Let's get you all the details.
09:21Tamil Nadu is no stranger to larger-than-life cinema plots.
09:29But in Taini, a real-life prison break has unfolded like a scene straight out of a movie.
09:3717 inmates escaped from Taini sub-jail late Monday night, after launching an attack on prison personnel.
09:45The escape reportedly began when one inmate pretended to be ill, prompting jail staff to rush to the cell.
09:52Three guards entered to check on him, only to be attacked by the inmates.
09:56The prisoners then made their escape, triggering a massive manhunt across the state.
10:02Tamil Nadu police have deployed drones to track them down.
10:05So far, five escapees have been nabbed.
10:08See this expansion.
10:09There was a ref princess in theClub.
10:18Many to be attacked states.
10:19Four million people result in the tamper and then nagyon Random Personers were 느 실indły up the11 rober.
10:21Do you have done what you think?
10:22Are you doing które r robust in Chicago?
10:31Do you have any of the jobaya next to that?
10:32Do you have any of that?
10:34Do you have any?
10:34Do you have any of that?
10:37You're using one from my home?
10:38has suspended nine jail staff over the escape. The prison break has now triggered a political
10:44storm with the opposition targeting the Vijay government over the security labs. DMK chief
10:52MK Stalin slammed the administration over the incident, alleging that prisoners were
10:57being allowed to escape under its watch. The BJP meanwhile termed the jailbreak a humiliating
11:03failure of the TVK government. The TVK hit back by sharing an old movie clip featuring
11:11Udenidi Stalin running before being caught by the police.
11:20But beyond the political sparring, the jailbreak raises a serious question. How did 17 inmates
11:26manage to overpower prison staff and flee?
11:32Bureau report India today.
11:42Let's get you the latest update of those 17 inmates who managed to make it out of the
11:47Thedi prison. 13 have now been found and arrested. The Tamil Nadu police has put out a video saying
11:54using drone surveillance. They have identified secured escape prisoners in Thedi district.
11:59I will highlight four of them are still out there. Four of the prisoners who managed to break
12:05free from the Thedi prison are still somewhere around. The Tamil Nadu police are still trying
12:10to find their locations. Many of them are split up, tried to head in different directions.
12:15One or two of them were nabbed by locals including a local auto driver who caught one of them and
12:20handed them over to the prison authorities. But on your screens on the right, there's the video
12:25released by the Tamil Nadu police showing how they used drones to immediately find a handful
12:31of these prisoners and where they went after getting out of the Thedi prison. 13 have been nabbed.
12:38There's been a massive exercise underway by the Tamil Nadu police to take them all back into custody.
12:43Four of them still out.
12:52But there are questions being asked right now of law and order. How did something like this happen
12:57in a prison Thedi? It's something that's never really happened in Tamil Nadu decades ago. There was one
13:03such incident and now this. Let me open this up. Joining us on this broadcast, we've got Harish
13:08Mohamed Ibrahim political analyst, Sanjay Sahai, former IPS, as well as Mr. S. Murali Dharan political
13:14analyst. Mr. Murali Dharan, I'd like to begin with you. Serious questions that are being asked
13:19right now of the Tamil Nadu police, of the TVK government, sir. Because I'm not going to look
13:23at this one incident. I'm going to look at a string of incidents that's led to questions
13:27over the law and order in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was one of the biggest issues in the
13:32elections. Nothing's changed months on.
13:39Akshita, what we need to understand is this was a systemic failure on the part of the DMK,
13:49which let most of these shortcomings thrive. And they did nothing about it. Because they
13:57were just using the police force. They were using the police force for their own whims and
14:01fancies to arrest media people, you know, activists, etc.
14:05If a jailbreak happens, we're blaming the DMK for it.
14:09Yeah. No, I'll tell you. See, there was no, see, when I said systemic failure, the police
14:17machinery had lost its thing. You know, you also find that, you know, the commissioner of Chennai
14:21is being investigated in the Koso case where he has taken huge amount of bribes. And this guy was
14:27almost like a right hand to the DMK. So there's a lot of rut inside the, you know, the police
14:32system, which the TVK government is cleaning up. Okay. One by one. Okay. And as soon as they came in,
14:39this guy was moved out and moved to DMAC and they found out, you know, he has taken out bribes
14:44and he's amassed wealth close to some 400 crores. IPS officer, 400 crores of wealth. And these are
14:49things. And then apart from that, you had the IAS officers who are involved in other acting
14:52things. I'm not going to deny any of what you're saying, sir. It's going to take some time.
14:56It's going to take time. I'm not denying what you're saying, but there's never been a jailbreak
14:59under the DMK. I will highlight that. You can say whatever you want about the policing.
15:03I mean, this never happened to them. True. True. Because what happens is, see, when the
15:10system loses respect, when senior officials do not have the respect of their subordinates,
15:15the system collapses. They will not be able to enforce what they want to. They will not
15:20be able to order them, go do this, do that. You know, I want to have, you know, things done,
15:25you know, within a span of time. Because they've been used. They got corrupt. So that cleaning up
15:30is happening. So that cleaning up will take. Right now, what is happening is all these
15:33wardens are suspended. 13 of the 14 is already caught. And there's a lot of technology there
15:39today. There's no, it's not like those days. In Tamil Nadu, every street we have, you know,
15:44we have video cameras, you know, with CCTV cameras in each and every house. And commercial
15:48establishments have to have. So these guys are not going to go very far, you know, even though
15:53they would love to escape and go home. Four are still out there. So we'll see.
15:57Mr. Sanjay Sahai, former IPS is also with us. Mr. Sahai, who would you pin the blame on?
16:03Quite simply, when this kind of security breach happens that, you know, 17 inmates managed
16:08to plot an escape and then pull it off. Who do you blame?
16:12I'll just state the facts. One is, I think this political slugfest is spalling the
16:17policing atmosphere. There is no denying the fact in Tamil Nadu and across the country.
16:22Point number two, people are not even aware of the fact. It's not the police which guards
16:27the prisons. It is done by the prison department, by their warders, jailers, and their whole system.
16:32That is point number two. Point number three, most of these places, whatever might be the
16:37political dispensation, the nature of deployment is very small. I was just looking into the staff
16:42strength of sub-jail in Tamil Nadu. And it is only 13 inclusive of a scavenger and a cook,
16:48which means effectively it's 11. At night time, how many people were there, I have absolutely
16:54no idea. So might be some three, four, five. What is very, very intriguing is that all these
16:59people were kept in one cell. And of the 17, five of the inmates belonged to a sensational
17:06murder case in Vikramangalam. So they were, you can call them as hard-earned criminals and
17:13they were part of that 17. The other intriguing part is that once these people were overpowered,
17:19there were no second or the third barriers. Because if you, if you see a prison cell, even
17:25if you escape from there, there are other levels of barriers. So I don't know what happened
17:29to the barriers. And if you are talking about technology, I think the nature of technology
17:34which we use in actual operation is certainly not something which we can boast of. Where was
17:40the alarm systems functioning? Where were the CCTV things at that particular point in time?
17:47So there is huge amount of technology upgrade at the operational levels which is required.
17:52I'm very happy about the fact that 13 people have been nabbed. But the other reality is that
17:59given the nature of CCTV cameras and the capabilities which we have, I don't think even the faces of
18:05these people would have been cross-checked and reconciled with whatever the live cameras are doing.
18:11So there are lots of issues involved, leaving aside the political slugfest, which is the correctional system
18:18in the country. So starting with staff strength. And these are not the people who carry weapons.
18:24They don't carry weapons inside the jail unless there are special circumstances.
18:27No, and there's no word on that. But Mr. Sahai, I think while you're right, we shouldn't get caught up
18:33in the politics of it.
18:34I think it's only right that we ask questions also of the government or what's happening.
18:37Yeah, a hundred percent. But the point is, the people who are talking about improving law and order
18:42don't have a blueprint of correctional services. So we'll keep listening to it for all times to come.
18:49My whole problem is that I need a clear-cut blueprint. So these are the jails. This is what is
18:55happening.
18:55This is the current staff strength. This is the current training. This is the nature of technology.
19:00Now what is the protocol? Now how do you open that particular cell because somebody is feigning illness?
19:07Now there is a standard protocol. There is a standard protocol. So that, see very clearly the DG of prisons
19:13is saying
19:14that there was a human error, which means there is error. No, but there's no further steps.
19:20There's no further protocol. You're right in highlighting that none of that has been followed.
19:24And clearly these personnel were overpowered as well, which means 17 inmates managed to gang up and then get out
19:29of the prison.
19:30And how long were they, how long the 17 were together? So as to transpire.
19:3713 now, 13 now have been caught. There are four more who are still out there, but you're right that
19:41they managed to plot this together, seated.
19:44And there was no clue whatsoever that they were doing this. Harish Muhammad Ibrahim, your first views on this.
19:49Because Mr. Murali Dharan says that, look, this is the legacy of the DMK that we're having to handle.
19:56Like his party, his statement is also loud. Why? Because this side of stupendous jailbreak happened way back 30 years
20:09before, three decades before.
20:10And even during the last five years of the DMK, there is not even one prisoner who has been getting
20:15out of the jail as happened.
20:16The same kind of monotonous thing has to be said for every of your culpable things. The DMK has to
20:23be blamed.
20:25Then the sheer incompetence of this government should be questioned.
20:28Because accountability is not even in their nerves of either their leader, Mr. Gujain, or to their party members.
20:35Because, as you say, the last five months, if you take the accounts of all the culpable issues which have
20:44been brought to the justice,
20:46there have been day-to-day affairs of kids being molested. There has been day-to-day affairs of murders.
20:52On an average, eight to ten murders across the state. And on top of that, a TBK member has been
20:59producing 137 kilos in the international market.
21:02It's almost 1,000 pro rupees of meth, which has been going to the deep roots of Navagodil and Tutukuri
21:10district.
21:10So, from the top and to the bottom, if you have the personals like the TBK members who are into
21:17all kinds of crimes,
21:19what else do we could accept, except from the government or from the political person?
21:24Having said that, this particular prison has been there for almost seven to eight years,
21:29and it has been confined with almost 300 personals and only four personals of guarded securities were there.
21:36It is a three-tier security prison, but whether it is an intelligence failure, yes, of course, it is an
21:43intelligence failure.
21:44Of course, the prison department has lost its credibility, and whether the culpable minister who is responsible for this is
21:51going to take accountable? No.
21:53Mr. Nirmal Kumar, who heads the prison department, whether he is going to take any accountability?
21:59If we are going to aim for that, then we would be at the losing spot.
22:02Whether he has taken any accountability for the EV's shortfall on across Tamil Nadu, there has been length and breadth
22:09of shortfalls in the electricity boat.
22:11And the electricity, whether he has taken any accountability? No.
22:14So, whatever this government, either Mr. Vijay or Mr. Nirmal Kumar, or for any of that matter,
22:20any of the ministers will never, ever going to take any accountability for their loss.
22:26They are always going to, one second, even if it is going to be next five years, if they are
22:31going to continue in the government,
22:33for each and every of their negligence, each and every of their incompetence, they are going to blame the DMK,
22:40which is going to have to be tackled at any given point at that.
22:43No, and Mr. Murali Dharan, is that the right trend? That if any issue comes up, the DMK is blamed?
22:49There is a reason the people voted for the TVK, sir, and to point fingers at the DMK constantly,
22:54and then there will be questions about what action is taken, because right now the suspensions that have happened,
22:59you know, is that just small fry being targeted?
23:04Not at all, Akshita, I think the Minister of Responsibility takes complete responsibility.
23:10But what's the action, sir?
23:11Nobody is running away saying that, no, no, no.
23:12Because clearly, you know, there were clear lapses, there were very brazen lapses, for which you are blaming the DMK,
23:17of course.
23:18Yes, yes, but, yes, I'll come to that part of DMK.
23:23So, things are, you know, being put in place, and this will be improved.
23:27Probably, it's a wake-up call, not only for TVK, it's for everybody, including the police force and other associated
23:35departments.
23:36They will get together and work on that and try to strengthen this.
23:40Probably, we can modernize these, you know, as the gentleman, the IPS gentleman, I told.
23:45You know, modernizing is probably due, and all that will be taken.
23:49And technology, as I said, when I said technology, you know, nobody can escape that part,
23:53because you have AI and you have facial recognition, which can be used, you know, on an extensive thing today.
24:00I mean, you know, in a crowd earlier, probably, you know, there are a thousand people.
24:02It will take a lot of time for us to drag somebody down.
24:05Today, it's not the case, you know, an intelligent camera can identify the person, pinpoint where he is going about.
24:10So, these are things which can be, you know, I'm not saying, not staying away from the responsibility.
24:15Yes, TVK has to take the responsibility. Yes, the minister will take the responsibility.
24:20And the chief minister will support him, any which way he could, to strengthen one of the prison team,
24:27as well as enhance the security measures.
24:30So, nobody is sharing away.
24:31The point why I said, you know, it's DMK, DMK.
24:34You know, DMK, Harish has spoke about somebody selling meth, but nobody was selling meth during TVK time and producing
24:42movies for the chief minister's son and his wife.
24:46You know, this was seen during the DMK period.
24:49The police lost the respect.
24:50The police lost everything.
24:52Their decorum is gone.
24:53Their discipline is gone.
24:54So, things have to be brought back.
24:56That fear.
24:57See, earlier you call up on a chief minister, curtels, orders of, you know, IPS or IAS officer.
25:02Things get done.
25:03Today, these guys call up and tell their first-file master's DMK.
25:07And this is what is happening.
25:09Before, Mr. Doudini's Taliban was arrested.
25:12So, Doudini's standing was a completely, you know, botched-up thing.
25:16And they had to wait outside his bathroom for three hours.
25:19Because some of the police people, they were informing the DMK.
25:23So, all kind of things happening.
25:24So, I can't use them as excuses.
25:26Yes, but they'll be made accountable.
25:28Like how Mr. Anbil Mahesh has been sent to prison.
25:32Next is Mr. K. Nehru, whose applications are bailed and the review applications were denied.
25:38So, one by one, even those politicians who are responsible for the current states will be brought to justice.
25:43Harish, your response.
25:43So, this is the guarantee we have.
25:45Yeah, at least the DMK person like Mr. Uday Nidiya, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Foyamuli, is facing the law as a
25:53law-abiding citizen.
25:54And they are not as like your leader who is showing his back and running from the scene and coming
26:01after three to four days after when 41 people have died by coming to see your leader.
26:08So, please don't bring all those.
26:09Whether or not the law can take its own course.
26:12Sir, I haven't interrupted.
26:13I haven't interrupted, sir.
26:15I haven't interrupted, sir.
26:16Add some civility.
26:17I don't interrupt during while you are speaking.
26:19No, but I need to interrupt because there's one of you.
26:20Put him on hold.
26:21Okay, okay.
26:22Okay.
26:23Mr. Murali, then I'll give you a chance to respond.
26:26Add some civility.
26:27I didn't interrupt you.
26:29Add some patience.
26:30So, having said that.
26:32You guys are trying to kill the chief minister.
26:33You want to maintain civility there?
26:35And guys say…
26:37Okay.
26:37Your chief minister, you are the most…
26:39Mr.
26:40Mr.
26:40Mr.
26:40Mr.
26:40Mr.
26:41Mr.
26:41Mr.
26:43Mr.
26:44Mr.
26:44Mr.
26:45Mr.
26:55Mr.
26:56Mr.arks
26:56no. Hold on,
26:57Mr. Murali.
26:57That Geralt retours
26:59you. Please be calm. Having
27:01said that, Mr.
27:02Udayanindih or
27:03Mr. Anbhil Mahesh Faya
27:04Malik, whether there is falsely propagated, whatever the case is, which is going
27:08to be foisted against them, they will go ahead and make sure to add some faith.
27:14whether this government, as he took this particular case,
27:18whether his government had produced any charge sheet
27:21for the last 100 days,
27:23not even if they could produce their charge sheet
27:25against the A1 culprit,
27:27and you are speaking about whatever the cases
27:29which you have been speaking about.
27:31Have some shame, sir. Have some civility.
27:33Take the responsibility for whatever the mistakes you are doing.
27:36You want to go ahead and run this government
27:38for the needs of your mafia group running.
27:40Whether the Tamil Nadu people will fool each and every time
27:43to do your thing, that will never ever happen.
27:46And that is the reason you are being rooted upon
27:48even during your two by-elections.
27:51And that the results will you have to expect
27:53for the other upcoming elections as well.
27:55So don't try to fool the people.
27:56No, no, Harish, come on. The TVK won the Bipolls.
27:59And at what cost?
28:02At what cost?
28:03At what cost?
28:04At what cost?
28:05And they have bifurcated the AADMK
28:08by doing a house trading.
28:09No, but you spoke of the verdict of the Bipoll.
28:12I'm telling you, the verdict of the Bipoll was for the TVK.
28:15Mr. Waipo admitted, Mr. Waipo admitted,
28:17Mr. entire AADMK clause of 25 MLA's have admitted.
28:22So what kind of treatment you are doing it
28:24for the justice and the constitutional framework?
28:26The separate aspect.
28:27You spoke of the Bipoll result.
28:29The Bipoll result was for the TVK.
28:30No, no, no, please.
28:32Harish, let's please not lecture the anchor now
28:35and get into that once again.
28:36All I said is when you're referring to the Bipoll verdict,
28:38the Bipoll verdict was for the TVK.
28:40So what are you talking about?
28:42Akshida, it is a 2x one.
28:43Then don't question with the impropriety.
28:46Go to ask them.
28:47I didn't ask you on propriety, sir.
28:48I asked you about your own statement.
28:50Akshida.
28:50I am set up.
28:52Enough.
28:52Go ahead.
28:53Mr. Murali Dharan.
28:56Akshida, ask him not to, you know, sound so rude
29:00and, you know, typical DMK, you know, show attitude.
29:04And don't worry, Mr. Harish, you know,
29:07if nothing works, we will get jailer Mutuvel Pandian
29:11to handle the issue.
29:13Okay?
29:13So not to worry about all that.
29:15And take a chill pill.
29:17Things are under control.
29:19Mr. Sanjay, sir.
29:20I am chill.
29:21I am chill.
29:22The viewers know who is jitter.
29:23Okay, okay, okay.
29:24Give a break.
29:25Smell your coffee, sir.
29:26Come on.
29:27Mr. Sanjay Sahai, what's the cleanup that's needed
29:29to actually address this issue
29:31and address clearly the loopholes in the system right now?
29:34I don't think this is a Tamil Nadu problem alone.
29:37This is something that's been reportedly,
29:38repeatedly covered here on India Today
29:40of how prisoners have access to technology
29:43or prisoners have mobile phones,
29:45how there are multiple breaches.
29:46It's just perhaps gone too far in Tamil Nadu.
29:49There are two issues.
29:50One, if this is the level and quality
29:52of political engagement,
29:54I don't think whichever political party it may be,
29:56they will be able to govern.
29:58Point number one.
29:59Point number two.
29:59There's endless finger pointing.
30:00You're right.
30:01No, no.
30:01I'll just finish.
30:02I have nothing to do with any of the political parties.
30:05The second point is,
30:06somebody was talking about the decorum and discipline.
30:10If the decorum and discipline
30:12was wiped out with the earlier dispensation
30:14of all the police officers,
30:17what is the blueprint to bring out
30:18the decorum and discipline?
30:19And every political dispensation
30:21will talk of the same.
30:22Okay.
30:23That apart.
30:23Now, coming to the prisons as such.
30:26Now, prisons has variety of problems.
30:28Now, first and foremost is the prison staff.
30:31So, there is a shortage of prison staff
30:33at every place.
30:35Point number one.
30:36Point number two.
30:36There is lack of technology.
30:38There are systems today
30:39by which we can control
30:40every inch of the land
30:42inside the prison.
30:43Point number three.
30:44Jammers in Bangalore prison
30:46basically control the signals outside
30:49and not the signals inside.
30:51Point number four.
30:52There is additional amount of security
30:54which has to be given to these prisons.
30:58And most importantly
30:59is the responsibility and accountability.
31:02There is a DIG in Karnataka
31:04I think has been imprisoned
31:05not only because of the inefficiency
31:07which was being done here.
31:09There is also that they created
31:10some fake court order.
31:13So, broadly these are
31:14you take Tihar Jail
31:15you take Karnataka Parapanagrahara
31:18you take any of these jails.
31:20And there is inherently
31:22an understanding
31:23that these VIP prisons
31:26we have seen the VIP prison inmates
31:29from Tamil Nadu in Karnataka
31:31and what happened to that.
31:32So, this is the major issue.
31:35And the only way we can go ahead
31:36is technology, technology and technology
31:39because we have not been able to set right
31:41the human beings
31:42for a variety of reasons.
31:43No, and hopefully
31:44hopefully it will get better
31:45hopefully this serves as a wake-up call
31:46for the authorities in Tamil Nadu
31:49and outside as well
31:50that there is a serious need
31:51to revamp the jail system
31:53and revamp how these prisons function
31:55as Mr. Sahai puts it
31:57use technology now.
31:58Thank you very much
31:59Harish Ibrahim, Murali Dharan
32:00as well as Sanjay Sahai
32:01for joining us on this broadcast.
32:03It was not the issue
32:04that came up in that particular discussion.
32:06The issue of Anbil Mahesh's arrest.
32:10So, the political battle in Tamil Nadu
32:12intensifying a corruption case
32:14against Anbil Mahesh
32:16triggering a fresh DMK versus TVK face-off
32:18after he was denied anticipatory bail
32:20by the Madras High Court
32:20he was taken into custody, arrested.
32:23What is the allegation against him?
32:25That there was 100 crore kickback
32:27because he, as education minister
32:29promised recognition to several private schools
32:32on behalf of the government.
32:33There is a reference to the word
32:34party fund as well in the High Court.
32:37The DMK, of course,
32:38has called all of this
32:39a political conspiracy.
32:40The TVK is saying
32:41that several of these senior DMK leaders
32:43are finally paying the price
32:44for their corruption.
32:51Another day, another political storm
32:54in Tamil Nadu.
32:55Former Tamil Nadu minister Anbil Mahesh
32:57was arrested by the Chennai Central Crime Branch
33:00on Monday in an alleged
33:02100 crore rupees corruption case.
33:05Mahesh is also accused of collecting money
33:08from private schools
33:09by promising government recognition
33:11and approvals.
33:12The Madras High Court has rejected
33:14the bail petition
33:15post which within hours
33:16Anbil Mahesh has been arrested
33:18and he's been brought in
33:19to the Chennai City Police Commissioner's office.
33:22And here what DMK claims is that
33:23no lawyer has been allowed
33:25to enter the place.
33:26They don't even know
33:27where Anbil Mahesh is
33:27and the families were not
33:29informed about this
33:30and they are calling it
33:30as nothing but political vendetta.
33:33Mahesh has rejected the allegations.
33:54The former minister's arrest
33:56has now set off
33:57a political slugfest
33:58with the DMK and TVK
34:01trading charges.
34:04K.N.N.M.L.A.I.
34:05who heads
34:06We The Leaders
34:07Forum
34:08welcomed the arrest
34:09accusing the DMK
34:11of running away
34:12from the truth.
34:13State Minister
34:14Nirmal Kumar
34:15claimed
34:16the scam
34:17was much bigger.
34:40The DMK, however,
34:41has dismissed the arrest
34:43as political vendetta
34:45accusing the TVK government
34:46of using the case
34:48to divert attention
34:49from law and order
34:50concerns in the state.
34:52It's a political vendetta.
34:53It's clearly a political vendetta.
34:55They want to score
34:56this kind of a thing.
34:57They want to score
34:58against our DMK.
34:59It's the presence
35:00of a corruption
35:00political party
35:01and it never achieved.
35:05The word has moved
35:06beyond
35:07political statements
35:08on social media.
35:10A video of a DMK supporter
35:12waving the party flag
35:13has gone wild.
35:15Apparently,
35:16recorded during
35:16Mahesh's arrest,
35:17the supporter
35:18made the remarks
35:19aimed at your
35:21minister,
35:21suggesting that

36:14on this entire
36:15fight over the
36:15family property
36:16and has raised
36:17questions about
36:18this continuing
36:19fight and the
36:20reported differences
36:21within the
36:21family,
36:22saying that
36:23while Jagan is
36:23focused on
36:24palaces,
36:25the NDA
36:26works for the
36:27poor.

36:56Who is
36:57responsible?
36:59Let's show
37:00you a video
37:00from Keralam
37:01going viral
37:02now.
37:03A woman
37:04getting her
37:04head shaved.
37:05She's in
37:05tears as
37:06it happens.
37:07She's kicking
37:08off an
37:08indefinite
37:09hunger strike.
37:10Why?
37:10Because for
37:11months her
37:12demands haven't
37:14been met.
37:14For months
37:15she along with
37:15several other
37:16women have
37:17been protesting
37:17outside the
37:18secretariat.
37:19They're lower
37:20primary school
37:22teacher rank
37:22holders and
37:23they've been
37:24demanding
37:25government
37:25appointments.
37:26But while
37:27they've been
37:27protesting from
37:28August pushing
37:30forward with
37:30their demands
37:31there's so
37:32far been no
37:32breakthrough,
37:33no solution
37:33offered by
37:34the VDS
37:34government.
37:35Fed up,
37:35feeling let
37:36down,
37:36these women
37:37are now in
37:37an indefinite
37:38hunger strike.
37:39Sending across
37:40a message to the
37:41VDS government
37:41that they will
37:42not end their
37:43protest until the
37:43government listens
37:44to them and
37:45agrees to their
37:45demands.
37:46They've had to
37:47resort to all
37:47kinds of
37:48measures.
37:48Right now this
37:49is what they're
37:50doing.
37:50They're shaving
37:50their heads,
37:51they're staging
37:52an indefinite
37:52hunger strike.
37:53It's come to
37:53this way because
37:54for months
37:55nothing has been
37:56done.
37:56They're breaking
37:57down, they're
37:57crying, they're
37:58demanding attention
37:59from the
38:00government.
38:01And they've
38:01been doing
38:01several such
38:04protests.
38:05Before this they
38:05were even
38:06eating grass.
38:07Now you may
38:08say that all of
38:09this is very
38:10out there.
38:10Why are they
38:11taking these
38:11kind of steps?
38:12The reality is
38:13that all they're
38:14trying to do is
38:14grab the attention
38:15of the government
38:15because they want
38:16their demands to
38:17be met of
38:17government
38:18appointments.
38:18And so far
38:19there's been no
38:20breakthrough.
38:20The government
38:21has been in
38:22talks with them
38:22for the last
38:23few weeks but
38:24hasn't agreed to
38:25their key demand.
38:26So now an
38:27indefinite hunger
38:28strike.
38:29All kinds of
38:30steps that they've
38:31taken to grab
38:32the attention of
38:33the government.
38:33It hasn't worked.
38:35The question is
38:35what will it take
38:36now?
38:41Let's get to the
38:42latest updates on
38:43Cyclone Arnab.
38:44The state of
38:45Andhra Pradesh is
38:45on a high alert.
38:47Several steps have
38:48been taken of
38:49evacuations from
38:50the coastal line
38:51particularly from
38:52coastal areas
38:53because you can
38:53already see that
38:54the sea is getting
38:55rough.
38:56The Met Department
38:57has issued warning
38:58signals at several
38:59ports along the
39:00state's coastline.
39:01At the time of
39:02landfall it's
39:03expected the wind
39:04speeds will pick up.
39:05Could reach 125 to
39:08130 kilometers per
39:09hour.
39:09It could even touch
39:10150 kilometers per
39:12hour.
39:12This now is a
39:14very severe
39:15cyclonic storm.
39:17All steps have been
39:18taken by the
39:18Andhra government,
39:19and by the
39:19Odisha government
39:20and even by
39:21parts of Tamil Nadu
39:22to ensure that
39:23they are fully
39:23prepared for the
39:24impact of the
39:25cyclone.
39:25There is already
39:26heavy rain being
39:27reported in parts
39:28of Andhra Pradesh.
39:29Let's give you a
39:30sense of what's
39:30happening on the
39:31ground.
39:31Apoorva Jai Chandra
39:32reports from
39:33Kakinada.
39:35We are here in
39:36Kakinada just at
39:37Upada where the
39:38effect of cyclone
39:40Montha as you can
39:41see is already in
39:42full effect.
39:43The next 24 to 48
39:45hours will be
39:46extremely heavy
39:48rainfall and winds
39:49that will be
39:50lashing across
39:51Kakinada well
39:52into Yanam and
39:53Kata Patnam as
39:54well.
39:55With the cyclonic
39:56storm that is
39:57raging now turning
39:59into what only
40:00seems to be a
40:01very severe
40:02cyclonic rage as
40:03well.
40:04The Andhra Pradesh
40:04government has
40:05taken forth all
40:06preparations underway.
40:08As per IMD
40:09predictions,
40:11cyclonic storm
40:12Ornab is all
40:13set to make
40:13its landfall
40:14between 8 a.m.
40:16and 12
40:174 noon
40:18tomorrow morning.
40:19But as you can
40:20see, the rage of
40:22the sea and the
40:23winds have only
40:24been increasing
40:25steadily over the
40:27last couple of
40:28hours.
40:29Andhra Pradesh
40:30government has
40:30also put out
40:31several helpline
40:33numbers for those
40:34people who are
40:35stuck in these
40:36regions so they
40:36can reach out for
40:38help as well.
40:39And in fact,
40:41NGRF teams,
40:42APSDRF teams have
40:43been deployed in
40:44various locations
40:45for those who want
40:47to go ahead and
40:48seek some kind of
40:50respite from these
40:52torrential rains that
40:53are lashing across
40:55Kakinada and the
40:57coast of Andhra Pradesh
40:58towards Vizak as
41:00well.
41:01For now, in
41:02Kakinada alone,
41:03there is a class
41:0510 warning that
41:06has been issued at
41:07the Kakinada port,
41:08highest warning that
41:09has been issued for
41:11the extremely severe
41:13cyclonic alert ahead
41:14of Cyclone Ornab.
41:16But in other areas
41:17as well, with
41:18monitoring that is
41:19going on completely,
41:21it looks like the
41:22next 24 to 48
41:23hours, the state of
41:25Andhra Pradesh will
41:26be bearing the
41:26brunt of Cyclone
41:28Ornab.
41:28With video
41:29journalist Irfan at
41:30Upada in
41:31Kakinada,
41:32Apu Rajeshandran in
41:33India today.
41:34So you have come
41:35here, you have taken
41:36stock of the
41:36situation.
41:37What are the
41:38arrangements that we
41:39have been able to
41:39do so far?
41:41For the Ornab
41:42Cyclone, we have
41:44made elaborate
41:44arrangements in terms
41:45of Cyclone
41:46shelters and we
41:48have also deployed
41:48staff across the
41:50district at the
41:52village level, at
41:53the Mandel level,
41:53even at the
41:54division level,
41:54we have deployed
41:55staff.
41:55We have alerted
41:56all the emergency
41:58departments like
41:59fire, the NDRF,
42:01SDRF and we
42:02have mobilized
42:02them, put them in
42:03place in the
42:04villages and using
42:05the support to
42:06encourage the
42:07people to come to
42:07the shelters because
42:08they are used to
42:09this Cyclone and
42:11the tendency is that
42:12it is like every
42:13other year, please
42:14don't push us to
42:16move to the
42:16shelters but we are
42:17convincing them to
42:18make them move to
42:19the shelters because
42:20this time around the
42:21Cyclone is going to
42:21be much, much severe
42:22compared to the
42:23previous years.
42:24We expect the
42:25gale winds to reach
42:26up to speeds of
42:26say 120-130
42:28kilometers per
42:28hour.
42:29So we are
42:30worried about
42:31their safety, so
42:32we are encouraging
42:32them to move to
42:33the shelters.
42:33At 27, 20, 20, 20,
42:3620, 19, 30.
42:37country, we
42:37the
42:37miles.
42:41There is a
42:42lot.
42:43to
42:4412-4
42:47kilometers.

42:49distance.
42:50We
