00:01Let's get your breaking news that's coming in on Cyclone Arnab
00:03and the aftermath that we've been tracking here on India today.
00:06The death toll, unfortunately, has climbed up now to six.
00:10Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has confirmed that the number of casualties now stands at six.
00:16He's also confirmed that the government will pay a compensation of five lakh rupees,
00:21excretia, to the families of the deceased.
00:23While expressing his deepest condolences, he says we were unable to save their lives
00:28due to the severe impact of the stock.
00:31Besides that, 10,000 rupees will be provided to those whose houses were partially destroyed,
00:3725,000 to those who've lost their shops.
00:40These financial assistance has also been announced for farmers
00:43who've lost their crops as a result of Cyclone Arnab.
00:47Unfortunately, the death toll right now at six.
00:50Hopefully, that number doesn't go up.
00:53But a word of appreciation also for the Andhra government
00:55on how they've managed to control the entire situation,
00:58previously, whenever a cyclone of this nature, of this intensity would hit,
01:03we'd see a huge number of casualties.
01:06Now, with better planning, with better alertness and better also warnings from the Met Department,
01:11you are seeing that the number of casualties, the number of those affected has come down.
01:16Property, of course, has taken a hit.
01:18Crop damage has also been reported widespread at that in several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
01:23But as far as the toll on humans, on lives is concerned, the death toll now stands at six.
01:30And Chief Minister Naidu has confirmed that a compensation will also be handed over to the families from the government.
01:36The Andhra government has also reached out to the central government for all possible help,
01:41urging them to send a team for assessment so that the central government can provide the necessary financial help and
01:47otherwise as well.
01:48Apurva Jai Chandran is joining us live right now from Andhra.
01:51If I'm not wrong, she's reporting from Kakinada because she's been through most of the coastal parts of Andhra,
01:57getting us a ground report on what the situation has been like.
02:00Apurva, unfortunately, the death toll has gone up to six.
02:03But run us through what you've seen on the ground.
02:05And, you know, is there a lot of damage to property?
02:09What's the situation in coastal areas?
02:11Well, in fact, we have been traveling right from Kakinada upwards to Upada.
02:17And now we are currently going, traveling through Kornasima as well.
02:21And just a couple of hours back when we were traveling through Kornasima,
02:25this entire region, remember Kornasima is one of the dense coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh.
02:30And if you can just see from the visuals that we've just shared, you know, a short while back,
02:35the entire area has been completely destroyed and destructed by the force of the winds there.
02:41In all of the regions, every two to half a kilometer to one kilometer stretch,
02:46we can see the crops that have been completely crushed and, you know, smashed to the ground
02:51because of the gale winds that have been affecting due to cyclone.
02:55And in fact, the trees, the tall, strong coconut trees or even the banana trees.
03:01Remember, in Andhra Pradesh, the major crop cultivation, especially in this well,
03:06is one, rice, two is banana and third is coconut.
03:10So that's the widespread damage to crops that we were referring to.
03:13But the chief minister has announced also that there will be compensation to these farmers.
03:17Thanks, Apoorva, for that live update.
