Lucie follows up her Bullet Journaling Try Living With Lucie episode with a look at how her bullet journal is progressing.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, it's Lucy.
00:01I've been promising this video for months and months and months.
00:04So here it is, the long-awaited bullet journal vlog.
00:12As you might know, I did five days of bullet journaling last year and when I did that episode,
00:17I fell in love with the bullet journal for about a week.
00:20It was a fling.
00:21We had a brief fling.
00:22Truth be told, I gave up the bullet journal at the end of 2017 and I was really upset
00:27about it because I got a lot of questions from you guys.
00:29Can you show us your bullet journal?
00:31Let us see how it progressed into the video and I was sitting here like, oh no, I stopped.
00:37So that takes me to 2018 and I realized I want to get back into bullet journaling and I went
00:44on Instagram, I looked at hashtag bullet journal, hashtag BuJo inspiration and let me tell you,
00:50I was inspired.
00:52That was when I realized that the best way to use a bullet journal is the best way that
00:56it works for you.
00:56Because there are three aspects of the bullet journal that I really love.
01:00Number one, the first thing I love is having a monthly spread where I can see before me
01:04the entire month laid out and I sort of know top level what's happening on each day.
01:10Number two, trackers.
01:11I love tracking habits and adding good habits into my life and getting rid of bad ones.
01:16And for me, trackers are a great way to visualize my progress and inspire me to keep going.
01:21And the third thing that I love about bullet journaling is watercoloring.
01:24I've always loved watercoloring and I recently bought a watercolor set from Michaels.
01:28I personally find that it is the most meditative thing in the world and I love it as a creative
01:34outlet and it's fun.
01:35But if you don't like watercoloring, you can find any other aspect of bullet journaling
01:39that you enjoy.
01:40So today I'm going to flip through my bullet journal.
01:42I'm going to show you a little bit about what I have there.
01:44We'll plan a little for the next month ahead and I'll show you how I make some of my trackers.
01:48And I also want to show you a lot of the bullet journaling tools that I've garnered ever since
01:53starting this process.
01:54I have tons of pens and markers, brushes, pencils, and I cannot wait to share with you.
01:59Okay, so here's the outside of my bullet journal.
02:02This was a custom bullet journal case made from a company called Case Station.
02:06It's a picture of me and my twin sister, Allie, doing yoga together.
02:10And when you open it up, there are some pockets on the left.
02:13And in the back, I've tucked in a few of my favorite stickers.
02:17You can slide an existing bullet journal into one of these cases or just use the dotted
02:21journal that comes with the case.
02:23And I love that it has this elastic loop so that I can close it securely.
02:27I've been working on this bullet journal for a long time, but I intentionally didn't color
02:32my front page just yet because I wanted to wait until this video to do it with you.
02:36This is how I typically do my watercoloring.
02:38I outline the design with pencil first and then I just get moving.
02:44I use a variety of brushes based on what works best in the moment.
02:48And I don't think too much about the color.
02:50I just sort of do whatever looks best and then mix and match.
02:54I actually wrote bullet journal on the page first, but I didn't love the way it looked,
02:58so I rewrote it on a scrap of watercolor paper, tore it off, and taped it on.
03:03And I actually like the scrapbook look better anyway.
03:06And before I let you plan with me, I want to show you some of the tools and markers I
03:10use.
03:10This entire set is from Bandeau and they're all amazing.
03:15I have these Gel Yeah gel pens, which are super bright and inky.
03:19These color-blocked write-on pencils.
03:22A Le Pen rainbow six pack.
03:24Some paper tape.
03:25Oops.
03:26Dropped them.
03:26But yes, they come in this eight pack with all of these colors.
03:30Another Gel Yeah set, but this one is a glitter set.
03:33And hot spot highlighters, which are the best.
03:36I also have this Bandeau pencil case, which is gold on the inside.
03:41So yeah, it's all going to happen for you.
03:44This assortment of amazing double-sided highlighters, as well as these unicorn book buddies, are from
03:49Jet Pens.
03:51And I've had these polycolor colored pencils for a while now, and they write so smoothly.
03:56They're great for when you don't want your colors to bleed through a page.
03:59I got this Pentel Presto Jumbo Correction Pen at Blick Art Materials, and it has seriously
04:06saved me so many times whenever I make a mistake.
04:09I have more goodies to show you, but first I'm going to let you plan with me for April.
04:13I decided to work off of the phrase, April showers bring May flowers, and I lined up five
04:18rain stickers on the page, one for each week in April.
04:21And then I wrote April at the top with my Tombow Dual Brush Pen, designated each cloud
04:27as a week, and added the letters of the days of the week.
04:30As you can see, I did this in pencil first to make sure it fit properly before I used
04:35the pen, but once the pen dried, I erased all of the pencil underneath.
04:38Then I went through and added the number of the day next to the letters, and that is my
04:43April monthly spread.
04:44On the other side of the page, I just made a little monthly calendar.
04:47And every time I add a new page to my bullet journal, I go back to the front and add
04:51it
04:51to the table of contents.
04:53Now back to the tools.
04:55This next batch of goodies is all from Michaels.
04:58These Crayola super tips come in literally every color and are a great tool for hand lettering
05:03beginners.
05:05Crayola watercolors, if you're like me and love to paint.
05:08A whole bunch of Tombow Dual Brush Pens.
05:11I personally think these are the best for hand lettering.
05:14I have this galaxy palette, this pastel palette, and this advanced lettering set, which comes
05:20with a great eraser to remove your guidelines.
05:22I have a whole bunch of brushes for my painting.
05:25Any size I could possibly need.
05:27And these Pentel Gel Pens come in five different tip sizes, and they're my favorites.
05:32Especially the one that says 03 because it's really skinny.
05:35And last but not least, I have this sticker book with all of the stickers I could ever dream
05:40of.
05:41Okay.
05:42Trackers.
05:42I mentioned that I love trackers, and one thing I've been sticking to recently is having
05:46no coffee.
05:47When I made this page, it was the middle of March, and I hadn't had any coffee for a
05:51couple of weeks.
05:52So I wanted to track it to see how long it could last.
05:54I started by watercoloring a cup of coffee.
05:58And once the paint dried, I outlined it with pen and added some details.
06:03I had already written out what the spread would look like using pencil.
06:07And so then I just went over it with darker ink.
06:09I wrote in the weeks, and then I decided to use this sort of abstract brown watercolor
06:14mark that kind of looks like a coffee stain as my daily check mark spot.
06:18So I added one of these for every day of the month, and then decorated the entire page
06:23with fun stickers.
06:24I wrote in the days of the week, checked off the days that I had completed so far, and wrote
06:29in the number of the days.
06:30And then added some more fun stickers.
06:32This is definitely one of my all-time favorite habit trackers.
06:36I've also been really focused on getting enough sleep recently, so I wanted to build an April
06:41sleep tracker for myself.
06:42Once again, I started in pencil because I had to measure it all out properly.
06:46I make a ton of mistakes when I'm writing in my bullet journal, so I pretty much do everything
06:50in pencil first.
06:52Then I added the days of the month, and used a ruler to make two separate graphs, one for
06:57each half of the month.
06:58The x-axis has the day of the month, and the y-axis is the number of hours I slept.
07:03I first tried writing April with a few different pens, but I didn't end up liking the way it
07:08came out.
07:08So I took another tear of watercolor paper, watercolored a little gradient on it, covered
07:14up the old word, and rewrote April.
07:19So here's a look at some of my bullet journal right now.
07:22The first page is that watercolor design, followed by the table of contents, which I
07:27add to every time I make a new page.
07:29On the next page, I'm documenting books I've read, and I drew a little book watercolor in
07:34the corner to make this page pretty.
07:36This page has my 2018 yoga tracker, which was totally inspired by a spread I found on Pinterest.
07:42And then I have my fresh juice ideas, which are all from the Juice Generation book.
07:46And I watercolored a little fruit or veggie next to each.
07:50This is my January monthly log, and my February monthly log.
07:54And here's a fun page I made for my family vacation to Costa Rica.
07:58I watercolored these rainbow clouds, one for each day of the trip.
08:02And then at the end of every day, I wrote a little blurb in the clouds so that I could
08:06read back and remember highlights from the trip.
08:08You've already seen this page in 5 days of self-care, but it has my cactus watercolor and
08:13then my 5 days of self-care episode breakdown.
08:16And you've seen these pages too, but here's my gratitude log and some color swatches that
08:21I've actually added more to since that video.
08:23Basically these swatches let me see how the different pens and markers look on the paper
08:28so that I can refer to them whenever I'm choosing which colors to use.
08:30This was my March monthly log, which was inspired by my life in a bullet.
08:34I've written the highlights of the day in the little boxes, and I made space on the bottom
08:38for my upcoming videos.
08:39But I feel like this page is still not done and needs something else in the empty space.
08:44And then here's my no coffee tracker, my April monthly log, and my sleep tracker.
08:50And that's it!
08:51That is my bullet journal.
08:53Bye guys!
08:55MWAH!
