00:03Hi, it's Yinka here and today I'm sharing a Diet Coke break with lifestyle blogger Kavita Donkersley.
00:08We're going to be talking about my favourite topic ever, travel.
00:11So, you know a little bit.
00:13I do.
00:14And your blog tells us.
00:15Yeah.
00:16So, where have you been?
00:18I've been to so many different places.
00:20It's really difficult to narrow down exactly where I've been, but I've been a big chunk of Europe, Australia, New
00:26Zealand and a very, very big chunk of Asia.
00:30At what point did you decide to start documenting your travel?
00:33I think, so for me, I went travelling when I was 20.
00:38That was the first time that I'd ever left the country.
00:42And I'm 25 now, so a lot of people don't know that it's five years for me that I've been
00:46travelling.
00:46And I've been documenting my life and blogging since I was 16.
00:50So, for me, the reason it was documented is because I've been blogging just as long as I've been travelling.
00:55What advice would you give to somebody who was planning to travel by themselves?
01:00I think the best piece of advice I could give is to be prepared to not be prepared.
01:06What do you mean?
01:07Like, just be flexible.
01:08Be malleable.
01:09Just know that, you know, things will change along the way.
01:13If you prepare every single step of the way and you want to do something different or someone you meet
01:18is doing something really cool in Vietnam but you're going to Cambodia,
01:20if you've prepared every single thing, you're never going to be able to experience those spontaneous moments.
01:25So, just be prepared that plans will change and be okay with it.
01:28What would you say is the best thing that you've gained from travelling?
01:32I think there's a lot of things I gained from travelling but I definitely think I've made some amazing friends
01:37for life.
01:37And I'm still in contact with them to this day and I got to meet them and really hear their
01:42story.
01:44For those of us who are travelling on a budget, do you have any tips?
01:49Best tips I can give you would probably be to stay in a lot of hostels over hotels.
01:55Really cheap and great time to meet people as well.
01:58You're not going to meet anybody at a hotel that wants to get talked to you but in a hostel,
02:02it's all about that hostel life.
02:03You party, you hang out, it's very sociable.
02:07I would say street food is a lot better in terms of price if you're on a budget but also
02:13it tastes a lot better, it's more authentic, it's, you know, a little old man down the road.
02:16Do you have any way to physically remember where you've been? Do you collect anything?
02:21So I actually, every single place I went to when I was backpacking, I got a patch and I sewed
02:27each patch onto my backpack which was the flag of every single place I'd been to.
02:31Yeah, so it's like a whole backpack full of all the flags of everywhere and it's great because I have
02:36the memories and obviously then people see your backpack and they ask you questions.
02:40Well, Kavita, I want to thank you for joining me.
02:42No, thank you so much for having me.
02:43And I'm going to bump into you on a beach somewhere.
02:45Yeah, let's do it. Let's go to Thailand together and you can try some scorpions.
02:48You said it, no, no, no.
