Mi-Anne wants to make use of everything in her closet so she chooses seven pieces to make seven days of cool outfits.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, it's me Anne.
00:02Did you know the average American uses just 20% of their closet, buys 64 new pieces of
00:09clothing and throws away 70 pounds of textiles yearly?
00:13I have a crazy amount of clothing.
00:17This week I've decided to rethink the items that I wear daily by challenging myself to
00:23choose 7 pieces of clothing and style them into 7 different outfits.
00:27This isn't going to be your run-of-the-mill minimalist wardrobe though.
00:33Don't get me wrong, I love good basic, but I want to show you guys that you can love color,
00:38you can love texture, you can love prints, you can love trends without having a closet
00:44that's bursting at the seams.
00:46I'm choosing 7 pieces and I'm going to divide them up into trend pieces and basics.
00:51I have 4 trend pieces and they all harken back to spring-summer 2019 fashion week trends.
00:56The first of which is a Bermuda suit combo.
00:59So I saw a bunch of Bermuda suit combos at shows like Dion Lee, Emilia Wick Said, and Tibby.
01:05The second item is a tie-dye tee.
01:07So we saw a lot of tie-dye at shows like Prada, Stella McCartney.
01:11Next up is a bright mustard orange top inspired loosely by the neon orange ensembles I saw at
01:17Carolina Herrera, Christian Cohen, and Oscar de la Renta.
01:21The final trend is probably my favorite and it is Teva sandals.
01:26And we saw them at Sandy Liang, John Elliott.
01:29So I'm going to wear these as my only shoe item for the entire week.
01:33But I couldn't just have a wardrobe full of trend pieces.
01:36I also went with a few basics.
01:38One dress, it's a white tent dress in a linen fabric, very breathable and flowy.
01:43A lilac wrap skirt, and a black blazer.
01:47I am no fashion connoisseur.
01:50So before going into this week, I decided that it would be in my best interest to talk
01:55to my friend Michelle.
01:56Michelle Lee is a stylist.
01:58She's also a fashion editor.
01:59So Michelle gave me some really, really great styling tips, threw in a couple of kind of
02:03weird out there styling techniques.
02:05One really good way to do it is just by stitching it in the back, like you tie it up
02:11in a knot
02:11at the bottom of the hem.
02:13How crazy would it be if you style something over the blazer?
02:16So maybe you should try that.
02:17A lot of people have been doing like the scarves as tops.
02:20And I feel like like a silky wrapped skirt is just like a longer version of that.
02:25You chose really good items and they're going to be really versatile.
02:28So I guess there's been enough rambling and we should just get into it.
02:37Hey guys, so it is day one and we're starting off with a bang.
02:41I'll show you.
02:41This is the outfit.
02:44There's a little bit of tie dye underneath here and then I'm going to pair it with Tevas,
02:48which might be a controversial topic.
02:51So this is day one.
02:57I love this Bermuda suit.
02:59It is so comfortable.
03:00It has a great structure, kind of 80s style shoulder pads.
03:05Wearing the tie dye shirt underneath it, though, makes it so fun.
03:08It gives it a little bit of color, a pop, an edge, brings it a little bit out of the
03:12workwear realm.
03:13I think it's so cute.
03:15I got so many compliments on the tie dye shirt blazer combination.
03:26All right.
03:28Day two, reimagining the Bermuda shorts.
03:33This is the fit, same Bermuda shorts paired with the orange one shoulder top and then the tie dye shirt
03:41kind of wrapped around as a pop of color and also can act as a pseudo jacket if I'm out,
03:46I'm cold.
03:47So this is the look.
03:51I loved day two's outfit.
03:52It was so fun.
03:54It was so comfortable.
03:55Tying the tie dye shirt around the waist gives it a little hint of color.
03:58It makes it a little bit more fun and creative.
04:02And the tie dye shirt comes in handy.
04:03If I got cold, I would just slap it on over top in lieu of a jacket.
04:16Good morning, everyone.
04:18It is day three of the outfit challenge and wearing something a little more on the springy side today.
04:26A wrap skirt with the orange top.
04:29I really love wrap skirts.
04:32They are so easy to have in your closet.
04:33You can throw them on under things.
04:35They layer really well.
04:36They layer well over things.
04:37And I'm gonna be on my way.
04:44This is a pretty neutral outfit.
04:46I think one that I can definitely see myself wearing over and over again, like on a Saturday, going to
04:50the farmer's market, going to get groceries, just sitting on my balcony drinking coffee.
04:54So it was definitely a fun one.
05:09Hello guys.
05:09We are back with another outfit.
05:12It's a brand-new day and we are wearing the wrap skirt in a different way.
05:15here's the look I am wearing the white time dress today and then I actually
05:20layered the wrap skirt over the dress not only to cinch in the waist a bit but
05:26to give it a pop of color a little bit of a textural difference and then I
05:29threw the blazer on over it just to make it look a little well work appropriate
05:34see y'all later
05:40we are halfway through this trend challenge and I gotta say I am not
05:45tired of the clothing yet I like this look a lot I think that it feeds into my
05:50love of boxier shapes and structures but the wrap skirt being a different fabric
05:55helps add a bit of textural intrigue as well
06:09hey guys we are back with the fifth outfit today wearing the tie-dye shirt again
06:13which I am realizing is just one of my favorite pieces that I chose for this
06:18challenge it is so fun it's so bright it makes me feel so happy to put it on so
06:23here we are tie-dye shirt layered over the white tent dress I decided to crop it
06:28by folding it and then tied it in the back excited to wear it
06:36day five I really liked this dress look I think pairing the tie-dye shirt with the
06:42dress since the dress is so minimal and basic just made it more fun like adding
06:47tie-dye to anything just makes everything more fun that's just the
06:51takeaway from the entire week styling tip number one when in doubt throw some
06:54tie-dye over it
07:02hello guys back with the a second to last day of the challenge I am wearing the
07:07wrap skirt again but this time as a top if you didn't know this was a skirt I
07:17think you would just think it's a top let me show you boom this is what we're
07:20working with really like the top I basically just tied it in the back very
07:25tightly you can add a pin if you want to make sure that it's like not gonna move
07:29anywhere but it's pretty secure then I tucked the rest of the skirt into the
07:33Bermuda shorts and because of the wrap skirt is a very thin material it tucked
07:37really easily you can't see it peeking out or anything like that
07:44I'm really proud of the way this one came out I think the outfit came out super
07:49super cute I wore it out to a dinner it didn't fall down I saw a couple of people
07:54that day and they could not tell that it was a wrap skirt I think that if you do
07:58it properly and you tuck in your skirt enough it looks like it's just a nice
08:01flowy textured tube top
08:11hey guys so we are on the final day of the challenge I've got kind of the
08:16craziest outfit of the week on right now so this is what we're working with I
08:21really like it when Michelle told me that this blazer might look cool with a top
08:28layered over it I was like you're crazy this is not gonna look good I really
08:33like it so what I did was I took the blazer and I wrapped it quite tightly
08:37around my body pinned it on the side so that it stayed put and then put this
08:42orange one shoulder top over it as layering piece and I think it looks really
08:47awesome I would never have thought that a blazer could be anything more than a
09:02blazer but if my friendship with Michelle has showed me anything it's that if you
09:06have the creativity and the tenacity to go for random things you can make some
09:11really cool outfits if you just push yourself there I think that this entire
09:25week of outfits has shown me that waking up and forcing yourself to rethink the
09:33items that you have in your closet is a really fun way to creatively challenge
09:38yourself do I think is something that I'm going to do every single day for the
09:42rest of my life realistically no but I think that now that I know that I can do
09:48this now that I've seen how you can take run-of-the-mill your average clothing
09:53pieces and turn them into something really exciting even though you've had them
09:57for years I definitely can see myself doing that a little more than I used to and
10:04that's really all you can ask for
10:08you
