00:00The reason that I'm using a curled thread versus a straight thread is I want it to give
00:05a little bit more bounce and a little bit more definition, a little bit more of a lift.
00:11Hi my name is Lexi Donato and I'm getting a lip thread lift done today.
00:17I live in Los Angeles.
00:18I own a brand called LDLA, also known as LD Los Angeles, and we're all about empowering
00:24women and making women feel beautiful in their own skin.
00:27It's no longer about a beauty standard to look like someone else.
00:30It's more about redefining your own beauty.
00:33So why not have a lip thread lift?
00:36Because if it's something that you're comfortable with and you already love yourself, it's just
00:40going to enhance that overall feeling and so that's why I'm doing this.
00:45I'm Dr. Sheila Nazarian.
00:47I'm a board certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills.
00:49I'm basically a plastic surgeon influencer.
00:52It's kind of like the Oprah's list of plastic surgery up in my office.
00:56But if I was speaking to somebody and they didn't know what plastic surgery was, my answer
01:02would be that I help men and women regain their confidence.
01:06People joke that plastic surgeons are therapists with a knife, but we're really not.
01:10For some people, if there's a lot going on at home or they have a lot of stuff happening
01:13on the inside, no matter what I do on the outside, they're never going to be happy.
01:17Giving people the gift of confidence has ripple effects in their lives.
01:21I'm not just affecting that one person, making one person comfortable and feel great about
01:25themselves.
01:26That's going to affect everyone around them.
01:28So I've had a little bit of lip filler in the past, so really I want to see the difference.
01:32Ideally, I want more volume all around my lips and just have it be mostly even and shapely.
01:39I found out lip threading through the internet.
01:42The first time I heard about it, I thought it was, you know, the threads that you use to remove
01:47hair.
01:47It turns out it's not.
01:49Lip threads are also sometimes known as the Cupid's bow lift.
01:54Now that's because this area up top where you have a peak, a dip, a peak, and then it
01:59comes down is known as the Cupid's bow.
02:01So a lot of times people flatten out there or they lose definition.
02:04So by pasting a thread here and a thread here, it's kind of giving people that bow shape back.
02:09I 100% will demand numbing.
02:12Even if she's like, we're not going to numb you today.
02:14I'm going to be like, no, wait, you're numbing me.
02:30You see how you got that little line right there and you have a little bit of a line
02:34right there too.
02:35I call that a lip in a lip.
02:36So my goal for you today, and let me know if you're on board, because if you want fullness
02:39in the lip, I would use an HA filler.
02:42I would use like a dermal filler.
02:43But if you just want that border sort of filled and a little bit more border definition, I think
02:47that's when the threading comes in.
02:49Which I think is perfect for you because you have full, beautiful lips.
02:52We just want a little bit more definition to fill that lip in a lip and also to give you
02:56a little bit of a more defined border.
03:00When it comes to certain types of procedures, I need the patient sitting.
03:03But when it comes to lip threads, I want to make sure the patients are super comfortable.
03:08So I'm going to lay Lexi down in a reclined position to make sure that she's as relaxed
03:13and as comfortable as possible.
03:18First, I'm going to numb Lexi's face.
03:46The lips can be a little bit sensitive, so giving them a dental block with some lidocaine,
03:52some local anesthesia, is really going to help her not feel pain when I get started on
03:56the threading itself.
03:58Oh.
04:00I know.
04:07Take the job.
04:17Now I'm making a small hole at the corner of Lexi's lips, which I can use to place the
04:23threads both in her upper lip and her lower lip.
04:44Right now, I'm placing the thread into Lexi's upper lip and really making sure that it's
04:51in the perfect location to give her that lifted Cupid's bow and a defined border.
05:20Now I'm going to thread Lexi's lower lip to fill in that lip in a lip, that little
05:26indentation that shows that she's had some deflation in the last few years.
05:38Even though we call it lip threading, this is not something you would use to sew your
05:43clothes up at home.
05:43This is actual suture material, which is sterile, very similar to what we use in surgery to sew
05:49wounds together, and that has predictable long-term results.
05:59Lips give a certain youthfulness and a sexiness to the face.
06:04So, if you look at a person's face and they're overdone with their lips or look unnatural out
06:09of proportion, that's not a good lip no matter what shape it is, how good it looks in a close
06:14-up
06:15shot.
06:15What you want is a lip to complement the rest of the face, but not to distract from looking
06:20straight into someone's eyes.
06:23Mmm, it looks so good!
06:25It looks really good.
06:27Oh my goodness.
06:28It's so natural.
06:29When I looked in the mirror for the reveal, I feel like I would have wanted a little bit
06:35more volume, but I found out that that's not what the thread does, so that's okay.
06:40And I love, love, love my lips now.
06:43I think my pout is a lot more pretty.
06:47Lip fillers I find in the lips last about three to six months.
06:51The lips are red for a reason.
06:52There's so much blood supply in the lips, and that helps break down filler faster, unfortunately.
06:57Lip threading may last a little bit longer because as the thread is dissolving, you're
07:03actually building some collagen around it.
07:05So while you definitely need to maintain it, I think that it's kind of additive a little
07:09bit, that collagen build.
07:11As the lip deflates, you start to get this little indentation along the inside of your
07:15lip.
07:16And when patients walk in, that's how I know, wait a second, their lip actually used to
07:20be bigger.
07:20So for me to increase the volume is not to make them look different than what they did five
07:26or ten years ago.
07:27It's actually just to turn back the clock a little bit and take them back to what they
07:30actually look like themselves when they were younger.
07:33When I had filler, my recovery period was super long and super dramatic.
07:39My lips look like duck lips.
07:42And that's what's really cool about the lip thread.
07:44You see the results right away and super minimal bruising.
07:48I only had a tiny little bruise on my actual lip just the next day.
07:54And really with lip gloss, you couldn't even notice.
07:57When I was placing Lexi's lip threads, I wanted to make sure that I was being as gentle and
08:04precise as possible.
08:05I think one thing that has led me to be a really great threader and also injector is that I
08:12treat
08:13every needle like a knife.
08:15So just because I'm not using a knife and I'm using a lip thread or I'm using a needle,
08:20the same respect for the tissue and the skin needs to be maintained so that you get the
08:26best results and the least amount of downtime.
08:29I would never get lip threading done again just because of the pain.
08:34I love the results of it and I'm super happy with how natural it looks and just that it
08:39gave my lips a little bit more shape to them.
08:42Dr. Sheila Nazarian was such a delight.
08:44I think with any procedure going in, it can be a little bit nerve wracking and she just
08:49has such a calming spirit about her.
08:51Despite it being very painful, she made it very, very easy to be there and to feel like
08:57you're being taken care of.
