00:00I've just had the same color for so long.
00:03I sent inspiration photos to my mom and she was like,
00:08oh, really?
00:11I'm Justine and I'll be getting face framing highlights today.
00:14I'm originally from Taipei, Taiwan.
00:17I moved to New York five years ago for college
00:20and I've just been here ever since.
00:23Right now, I feel pretty meh about my hair.
00:28Before, I would spend my summers on the beach
00:31and stuff like that.
00:33So my hair would get a little bit of natural highlights
00:36but now I feel like it's kind of become two-dimensional.
00:40Last year, I was really thinking about
00:43just bleaching all of my hair and dyeing it a light brown
00:47or even a blonde and I sent inspiration photos to my mom
00:52and she was like, oh, really?
00:56Do you think that would look good?
00:58And so I was like, oh, well maybe I shouldn't go like so hard
01:04the first time I'm ever like actually dyeing my hair.
01:08So I feel like getting these face framing highlights
01:11will be like a stepping stone for that in the future.
01:15So I'll also be getting a little bit of a haircut today.
01:19I believe the hairstylist is going to be adding some layers in
01:23just to make the highlights look a little better,
01:26let them shine through and make them really frame my face.
01:29So I'm really excited to see like what she does
01:32and like what she comes up with in the end.
01:39My name is Claudia and I am a colorist here at Fabio Scalia Salon in Soho.
01:44My name is Fabio and I'm the owner and artistic director at Fabio Scalia Salon.
01:48Welcome to my salon.
01:49Nice to meet you both.
01:50So Justine, what are you thinking color-wise to do today?
01:53So I would love to get some face framing highlights
01:55to just like add some more movement like make my hair look more 3D kind of.
02:02I would do some caramel colored highlights especially around the face to frame it out.
02:06And then back over here I'm just going to go pretty sporadic
02:08but I really want the face frame to give you that pop of that warm color
02:12just so that your face can have a little bit more warmth coming out as well.
02:16And so for the cut I would just love for it to elevate those natural looking highlights.
02:21What we're going to do is sort of like do an under layer
02:25which will allow you to have an internal movement
02:28and then overlap it with just a slight like a top layer
02:31which will give you still that feeling of layer
02:33that will allow the short to push along and give movement to the hands
02:36without losing that density that we really like.
02:39Yeah, I'm excited.
02:40Let's get started.
02:43Growing up all of my friends had black hair
02:46so I was the only one with like lightish brown hair
02:50and it was very much part of my identity.
02:53It's what made me stand out.
02:55So I just wanted to have some sort of change in my life.
02:59The fact that my hair is so similar to what I had like growing up
03:04in middle school and high school
03:05I just feel like I want to be the mature version of myself.
03:11To achieve this look I did baby lines throughout Justine's head
03:16and then in the front I really went back to back with the highlights
03:19and in between I teased up some pieces
03:22to create a ribbon effect throughout the hair
03:24and in that teasing I lightened that as well.
03:37At the sink I did a little bit of a root dab
03:39so that's something that at the root you just put a little bit of a darker tone
03:43to help blend out the highlight and everywhere else
03:47that I didn't do that root dab on I put a rich caramel tone.
04:05Hair makes people feel important.
04:07I think it generates like this energy and could be positive or negative, right?
04:11You wake up in the morning and first thing is like boom
04:13you look at yourself in the mirror and you can have a good hair day, a bad hair day.
04:17I think we are a little bit responsible for that
04:20or we should take credit on that, right?
04:22It's very rewarding to give somebody that experience
04:25and make their time worth it in here in the salon
04:29not make them afraid in the future of hair stylists and colors
04:32that they're going to have something go wrong.
04:54One, two, three.
04:58I absolutely love it!
05:09Like the color looks great, there's like little puffs here and there.
05:13Like I feel like an elevated adult human being.
05:17I'm so glad I did it with you guys, seriously.
05:20Thank you for trusting me with this gorgeous hair you have, like you know.
05:23I was completely blown away, like I didn't know that my hair could ever look this good.
05:30I feel like now I match myself internally and I'm showing like the mature adult me
05:37like through my appearance.
05:38The cut is super cute, it's not very different from what I had before
05:43but what it did change with like the little bit of layering
05:47just really makes the highlights pop a lot.
05:50I just love it so much.
05:51ありがとう gotcha.
