Transcript
00:00I'm going to just peel right off.
00:05Oh, that's my Frenchie.
00:08I'm Priscilla Baez, celebrity hair extensionist slash stylist,
00:12and I'm here with Refinery29.
00:14I'm here to show you how to properly remove your tape extensions from home.
00:18Hair is my whole life.
00:20I discovered my passion for hair when I was so young.
00:23I was probably like five or six years old,
00:25and I have a lot of cousins, and we're all close in age.
00:28And I would cut their hair.
00:31One would have, like, crooked bangs.
00:33One would have, like, you know, I would just, like, chop it.
00:37I got caught every single time.
00:38I specialize in hair extensions.
00:41That's just what I do.
00:43Extensions, extension cutting, which is with a razor, not scissors.
00:47I've learned, actually, every single method,
00:50and I only offer the two that I really think are the best,
00:53which is tape and extensions and characters.
00:55We are going to be removing my top row.
01:00I am wearing Glam Seamless Hair Extensions.
01:03I've had them in for a couple months now.
01:06I'm going to clip my hair out of the way here.
01:10You can see the tape and extension right there.
01:12The removal solution that we're going to be using
01:14is the Glam Seamless Hair Extensions,
01:17and this is Rapid Release Remover.
01:20And all you need to do is do a couple of sprays on it.
01:25And you put your finger right in the middle,
01:28and you feel the sandwich.
01:31You want to get your finger in between the sandwich of extensions,
01:34and it'll just come right off, just like that.
01:38Everybody's hair grows a little differently,
01:39but I've got some clients that I remove every four weeks,
01:42and then I have some clients that remove every eight to 12 weeks.
01:46There's one.
01:47And then you just want to kind of go back with a fine-tooth comb
01:50if there's any residue.
01:53You just want to comb through that stickiness.
01:57And now we're going to take out the next one.
01:59You kind of spray on the tape but also above it
02:01because you want to let the liquid get inside of the tape extension.
02:05Then you just put your finger in the middle.
02:07Because these are so grown out and old,
02:09they're just peeling them right off.
02:12I think it's all about looking extremely natural
02:15when it comes to extensions.
02:16That has to do with matching the hair textures,
02:19matching the hair color,
02:21shaping and cutting so that the ends of it look really natural.
02:25With viewers wanting to take out their extensions by themselves.
02:30If you are in keratin individual bonds,
02:32and if you're in sew and wefts as well,
02:34I would recommend holding on to a little bit longer
02:37and waiting for your stylist to remove those.
02:39Clip because that requires scissors
02:41and there's a braid sometimes.
02:44Beret and seal.
02:47The cost of the extensions are different per client.
02:50And there's so many different types of hair.
02:52There's virgin hair.
02:53There's manufactured hair.
02:55It just really, really depends.
02:57It can vary anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.
03:00It just depends on what the client is really looking for.
03:03And the quality of hair with extensions,
03:05you pay for what you get.
03:09Because I'm cheating, I didn't take everything out,
03:12but my top is out.
03:14I really just have two on my sides now,
03:16but it feels so much better.
03:18So basically, even when I'm removing on clients,
03:21I like to start from the top and work my way down.
03:23I recommend doing your sides first,
03:25just so that you can get the feel of it.
03:27Once you get to the back, you can position your mirror
03:30so that you can see what you're doing.
03:31If not, then the way that I like to do it
03:34is I like to just feel it.
03:35And as long as you keep your section up
03:37and keep putting the hair up top,
03:39you just work your way down.
03:41Nothing gets like left behind.
03:42No residue gets left in the hair
03:44because you are working section by section.
03:46It's important to take them out properly
03:48because if you don't, you can cause damage.
03:50And you know, a lot of extensions have a bad reputation
03:54because of a bad application or because of bad removal.
03:57So as long as you have the right tools
03:59and you remove properly, then there is no damage.
