00:02Hey, don't get hit too much.
00:05I thought I had a lot of heart.
00:09And I also thought it was really gritty.
00:11It's not pulling any punches.
00:13You know, no pun intended.
00:17I can't fight like that anymore.
00:19Think about her.
00:20You all hit a lot, Dad.
00:21Southpaw is about a fighter.
00:23He moves from the top and falls to the bottom.
00:25He has to learn how to become a father.
00:27He has to learn how to become a better human being.
00:30You are all I care about.
00:31The three of us.
00:33That's it.
00:34That's all that matters.
00:35So I'm going to tell you the truth.
00:36You're going to be punch drunk in two years if you keep this up.
00:40Maureen's kind of tiger mom a little bit.
00:43I mean, she doesn't want anybody coming anywhere near her family.
00:46She's super protective, maybe to a fault even.
00:48Put your pants on.
00:50Let's go so we can get home, okay?
00:52Mm-hmm.
00:54Anton seems to love Billy and Maureen's relationship, I think.
00:57He says that all the time.
00:59He loves these guys, and he doesn't want to let them go.
01:03Yeah, they don't exist without each other.
01:05It was so important that it was real love, that it was genuine.
01:09And when me and Jake sat down and met Rachel, it was almost instant.
01:13You know, with Rachel, it was pretty amazing,
01:14because I think she prides herself really on her preparation
01:17and a certain type of structure.
01:19And Anton really blew that up.
01:21You know, it was like we were playing and improving things
01:23and trying things out, and she just was totally game.
01:26Please fight, please.
01:27Thank you, guys.
01:28She's dope.
01:29You got interesting choices, like when she actually gets in the scene,
01:33because I didn't expect her to be as aggressive at different points.
01:37Well, when Billy's been my fighter for 10 years, I know what's best for him.
01:40And I've been his wife for like 100.
01:43I know what's better for him.
01:44First day Rachel came to the set, we were filming some of the boxing stuff.
01:48She had her coffee.
01:49She was in her regular clothes and everything.
01:51And I had the cameras going.
01:52I literally told Billy, just go grab her.
01:54Pull up on the ring and just start kissing her.
01:56And she went right there with him.
01:58And afterwards, she was just like, I don't know what film I'm in right now.
02:01What's going on?
02:02And so right away, I said, yeah, she's the one.
02:04And that's the sort of energy.
02:06And she was training in boxing, and she did that.
02:08I did a little bit of training, you know, a little bit of boxing
02:11with his coach, Terry Claibon, who's amazing,
02:14just to get a sense of what it is, you know, just to understand it better.
02:18And there's a few interviews I found of Boxer's Wives
02:21talking about a day in the life or what they do.
02:24She wanted to understand what it felt like, what it smelled like,
02:27and she wanted to make sure she knew what she was saying to him.
02:30When she said, you're taking too many punches, she actually understood that
02:33because she was around it so much.
02:35Until you hear a cut, you're on camera.
02:38There's going to be a boxing scene in this film
02:40that hasn't been shot quite like this before.
02:41I think they're staying mostly inside the ring,
02:44and it's really tight and close, and you really feel the violence.
02:48And even before we started shooting, Jake was so dialed into this character.
02:52So, you know, with those two at the helm and the heart
02:56and the fire that was already there on the page,
02:58I just thought it could be really special.
03:03Virgil's up, let's go!
03:05He needs time off.
03:06Yeah, bite his hand off.
03:07You don't give him something else to do with him.
03:10You want to go two rounds with me, champ?
03:11ні Queen,e sharpener,
03:12I cannot let you swing.乘改静
03:12I am Emma &ベx.
03:13them quite a lot of Shame. I'll put you down,
03:13c'mon, I want
03:14you down three rounds there, but we can't
03:15hide too much. But I think love
