00:08Hi everyone, this is Taylor from Refinery29.
00:10In celebration for the much anticipated new season of Mad Men, we'll be recreating a beauty
00:15look from one of our favorite office sirens, Joan.
00:17You may not have all Joan's assets, but that doesn't mean you can't have her sexy makeup
00:21look.
00:22To recreate Joan's sultry but simple makeup look, I'll be using the Julie Hewitt Spring
00:27Essentials Makeup Kit, available on Refinery29 Reserve.
00:30The kit includes an eyeshadow quad of four neutral colors, a red lipstick, and a creamy
00:36cheek color.
00:37Using a flat, dense brush, I'll be applying the lightest color, Pearl, all over my lid,
00:42from lash line to brow bone.
00:44Make sure you get good coverage with this, as it is the basis for our entire look.
00:48I like to pack the color on as I go, and not swipe it, just to create more density.
00:52Flipping the brush over, I'm going to pick up the second color from the palette, Bellini,
00:56and apply that for my lash line to just above my crease.
01:00Bellini is a matte, neutral, warm color, so it's going to give us a good Joan glow.
01:06Looking in your mirror, tilt your head back so that you can still see your entire lid with
01:10your eye open.
01:11This is going to give you a better idea of where to place Bellini.
01:14You're going to want to be able to see it when your eyes are open as well, so don't be
01:17afraid to go just over your crease.
01:19Then, using a fluffy, dense brush, you're going to want to blend the two colors where
01:23they meet.
01:24Now we're ready for the liner.
01:26Using a stiff, flat, angled brush, we're going to apply the darkest color on the palette,
01:31Noir, to just above the lash line.
01:33This color can be applied either dry or wet, depending on your preference.
01:37Today I'm going to be using a dry.
01:39Packing the color to the end of the brush, we're going to create a solid line from corner
01:43to corner.
01:44This is most easily achieved by creating small dashes and connecting them as you go.
01:49You're not going to want to swipe the color on in one stroke as you're just going to create
01:53a mess and not the desired look you're going for.
01:56Once you've created the look that you're comfortable with, it's time to move on to the cheeks.
02:00To get Joan's natural glow, I'll be using the Julie Hewitt Cheeky Blush Pot in Destiny.
02:05This is a creamy, sheer color that is easy to build.
02:09You can apply this with either your brush or your fingers, depending on your preference.
02:12Starting in the center of the cheek, you're going to want to work the color out for a
02:17diffused, natural glow.
02:19Feel free to build this up if you don't get the color you most desire on the first try.
02:23And voila!
02:24Once you've created your eye and your cheek color, it's time for the main event, the lips.
02:28Joan is known for her sexy red lipstick, so today we're going to use the Julie Hewitt Rouge
02:33Noir Lipstick.
02:34This is a dense, opaque color that goes on easy and doesn't need a lip liner.
02:38So there you have a modern take on a Joan-inspired look that's guaranteed not to make men mad.
