00:03Hey guys, it's Tara from Refinery29. I'm here with Bethany Brill, who's a hair and makeup artist.
00:08And Bethany, I have a question for you because I love wearing bright lipstick,
00:11but I can never get to stay on for more than five minutes. Do you have any tips for that?
00:14Yeah, that's a question I get asked all the time.
00:17Girls who are going to an important dinner or even their wedding day, an all-night event,
00:22you have to have your lipstick stay and look great all night.
00:24Okay, so we start out the technique just by lining the outside corners of the mouth with a brush.
00:30This helps to build the mouth up by having it darkest in that section of the lip.
00:35This will give the illusion of full lips.
00:38Then we line the cupid's bow.
00:41This is just going to give us an outline so that we can fill in the rest without having to
00:47worry about creating a nice line.
00:50So now we're going to take a larger lip brush and we're going to press the lipstick into the lip.
00:57You want to use a bunch of color and you also want to start with a dry lip.
01:04You don't want to have something slippery on the base.
01:08You can push your lips together to try and smooth out the texture of the lip and just do a
01:15few layers on top of each other.
01:18After you've applied the whole mouth, we're going to blot it with a tissue.
01:24And blot on either side of the ridge like you're about to eat a sandwich.
01:30Great, this just dries it out so it's not slippery.
01:34So we can add another dense coat of lipstick just straight from the tube.
01:39We're going to press it in, not wipe.
01:42Again, the pressing technique is what gets it to stay.
01:47Continually pucker your lips, which also gets it pushed into the lip.
01:52So to seal the lips, we're going to use translucent powder to put on top of the lipstick.
01:57You're going to just dip your finger into the powder and dab it on across the lip.
02:02Continue to dab until it kind of sinks in and leaves a dry feeling.
02:07The final step is just to apply lipstick straight from the tube one more time.
02:14Remember to dab and not wipe.
02:18This layering technique is what's really going to make it last.
02:25So there you have it, a lip that will last all night. How does it feel?
02:29It feels really light. It feels like nothing's even there.
