00:00The cult increased the torture of course. The police pressured my parents to put me into therapy
00:05but they sent me to a cult-involved therapist and that therapist intentionally tried to derail
00:12my healing, keep me from remembering that when I started to remember more and more the cult
00:16could not shut down the memories. I found my own therapist who was actually also a cult torture
00:22survivor and was able to believe me, to hear me, and to help me look inward and each time I
00:28ran
00:28away the cult would find me and they would bring me back and the cult will also often choose our
00:35partners so they chose my partner. They knew I was queer and I wasn't going to stop. She came and
00:41she
00:42stopped them from the torture, stopped them. It took me most of my life to get safe like I ran
00:49away so
00:49many times and each time I got a level safer. For me therapy has been so important to my healing.
00:58I
00:58have done art therapy. I have done psychotherapy like talk therapy. I have found EMDR helpful and
01:06there are some books that I have found incredibly helpful like Becoming Yourself by Alison Miller.
01:12Community is important. Still just finding one other survivor to talk to or to listen to
01:18can help healing so much so that there is safety and comfort. If you're a survivor too and you are
01:26not
01:26safe yet, please don't give up.
