00:00Sal Capaccio going to join us here on the Western Hotline.
00:02It's a Victory Monday, a Buffalo Football Monday,
00:05brought to you by Tim Hortons,
00:06the official coffee of the Jeremy and Joe Morning Show.
00:09Start your day strong with Tim Hortons and the Bills.
00:11Have an open phone line for you.
00:13If you're on hold, we'll get to your calls as well here with Sal.
00:15Sal, good morning.
00:16Happy Victory Monday.
00:18It was a strange day at the stadium.
00:20Can we all just agree it was definitely a weird day?
00:24100%.
00:25It was a weird day.
00:26You have a lot of mixed feelings, I think,
00:29about the micro of the game, if you will.
00:32You know what I mean?
00:33Like all the different things that happened during the game
00:35and the injury stuff that started from the Ravens side
00:40and then a lot of things that the Bills did wrong
00:43or made mistakes that hurt them.
00:45Then you look up and they still scored 36 points.
00:47I have no idea how.
00:49And now the macro is they are in first place in the AFC.
00:54They have the one seed.
00:55They're 6-1.
00:55And, you know, there's nothing to not feel good about
00:59when it comes to that.
01:00Yeah.
01:00At the end of the day, Sal, I feel like when I watched the Chiefs lose,
01:04that was a bit of a snap.
01:05Like, oh, that's what really matters
01:07because the Bills can't convince us
01:09that they can win the Super Bowl on November 1st.
01:12They can't win or lose it on November 1st.
01:14Continue doing what you're doing.
01:15Win the division.
01:16Get the one seed, a thing they've never had before,
01:19at least not with, you know, the Josh Allen era.
01:21And the Chiefs take a loss in Denver
01:23where they've lost four straight now in Denver.
01:26So, hey, you know, like, get the job done.
01:28Find a way.
01:29You don't have to apologize for who you beat in November.
01:32That's right.
01:33Last year, the league, us and Buffalo, everybody,
01:37talked a lot about who the Patriots didn't play
01:40on their way to getting to the Super Bowl.
01:42But guess what?
01:43They still went to the Super Bowl.
01:44And no one, it doesn't matter.
01:45It still goes on.
01:46Anytime you look historically, they still went to the Super Bowl.
01:48And, you know, they didn't win it.
01:49But, you know, if you get there, you get there.
01:52If you get the one seed, you get the one seed.
01:53If you win a game, you win a game.
01:55And you guys know my saying.
01:56Every game has its own DNA.
01:57And I said that many years ago, and it always holds true.
02:00What that means is, what you just said, Jeremy,
02:04what happened on November 1st does not necessarily...
02:08How you played against the Ravens
02:09doesn't mean you have to play that way
02:11or against the next opponent.
02:13Every game is going to be different.
02:15Every situation is going to be different.
02:16Injuries are going to evolve throughout the season.
02:18Their rosters are going to evolve.
02:19Every game is different.
02:21And you take the wins when they come.
02:23Now, that being said, I'll tell you,
02:26you're right about the Kansas City thing.
02:27I thought this morning, as much as people,
02:30and I still have people going,
02:31oh my God, I'm concerned about this.
02:32I'm concerned about play calling.
02:33I'm concerned about that.
02:35You could wake up today,
02:36and you could be a Kansas City Chiefs fan,
02:38and you have a lot more to be concerned about.
02:39You could be a Baltimore Ravens fan,
02:40and you certainly have a lot more to be concerned about.
02:43Right?
02:43I mean, like, these are...
02:45It's weird to me because I don't disagree
02:47that the things that showed up yesterday are like,
02:50ooh, you've got to clean that up.
02:51That's not good.
02:52But you are still in the best position of any team
02:56of the other 15 in your conference.
02:59Yeah.
02:59So let's start with the offense
03:01and how things went for the Bills offensively.
03:04Sloppy in the start of the game.
03:06It is another game where they take the ball first, right?
03:09Joe Brady wants the ball first.
03:10The Ravens kick it out of bounds.
03:12And, I mean, of all the things you could do against this team,
03:14giving them a possession on the 40-yard line
03:16in the first play of the game,
03:18I'm thinking, like, this game's over.
03:20How could you make such an obvious mistake
03:22on the first play of the game?
03:24So I thought the Ravens played equally as boneheaded,
03:26if not more so.
03:27Oh, I agree.
03:28I think the Ravens made a ton of mistakes.
03:30And, you know, going into the game,
03:32one thing we talked about on the roundtable was I said,
03:34hey, I think special teams could be a factor.
03:36Now, I don't think they were the margin here,
03:38but think of the mistakes they made.
03:40That's the kickoff, the missed field goal,
03:42and then Tyler Bass has a 56, a 51-yarder, right?
03:45I mean, like, the Bills had good coverage.
03:49I thought special teams mattered,
03:50and it started right there.
03:51I agree with you.
03:51So then the Bills get the ball.
03:52I was surprised.
03:53I thought maybe, Jeremy,
03:55I thought maybe Joe Brady would reevaluate
03:56and say, you know what?
03:57Home game.
03:59We've done that.
03:59Let's put our defense out on the field first.
04:01But, no, he took the ball right away.
04:03And, hey, I guess he's got scoreboard on this one.
04:05They went down.
04:06They scored.
04:06They accomplished what they wanted,
04:08which is to score a touchdown on the very first drive
04:11and have the other team come on the field in a deficit
04:14in the Bills' home stadium.
04:15And then, of course,
04:16what happened in the very first play to Lamar Jackson,
04:18we didn't know in the press box.
04:19We were like, why is Tyler Huntley coming in the game?
04:22And I really thought something happened to Lamar with his ankle.
04:25Like, I thought, and then all of a sudden,
04:26we all obviously saw the replay, and he goes out,
04:29and then the game just changes from there.
04:31And then, of course, it changed even dramatically more
04:33once Tyler Huntley went out.
04:35But you're right.
04:35From the get-go, the Ravens made some mistakes as well.
04:38Joe Brady took the ball.
04:39They went down.
04:40They scored.
04:40And, you know, they –
04:41even though the game got tight
04:43and even though the Bills were making mistakes,
04:45I kept thinking to myself,
04:46they're going to pull away at some point.
04:48They're not going to let this quarterback catch them,
04:51and they're going to make some plays.
04:52And that's what happened.
04:53That's what happened for me, Sal.
04:54Like, Jackson –
04:55and by the way, the new stadium,
04:56I don't know if I would have noticed this
04:58and if many fans would have in the old stadium
05:00because you only have the one tunnel.
05:02But if you had your eyes on Lamar after getting injured,
05:06he walks off like there's that side tunnel
05:08that he immediately goes out of.
05:10So saw him leave there.
05:12And, I mean, I kind of felt like the game was over
05:14after he leaves.
05:15Huntley is a serviceable backup, but he is a backup.
05:19And then certainly when Fignano was in,
05:21I felt like no chance.
05:23But same, Sal.
05:24Like, the moment Jackson's not in the game,
05:27the stress of the game just evaporated.
05:29Yep.
05:31And, listen, Tyler Huntley, I have a lot of respect for him.
05:34I think he's done a nice job as a backup in this league.
05:36He's won some games, certainly.
05:37He's done it this year for the Ravens.
05:39And they've played the last few games with him.
05:41So when he comes in, you're like,
05:42okay, they don't have to change much, right?
05:43They're going to be the same team.
05:44It's certainly not Lamar.
05:45We didn't know how impactful Lamar's feat would be anyway.
05:50When Fignano went in the game,
05:51I tweeted this after the first series.
05:53The guy throws a nice football.
05:55But, man, as soon as you speed him up,
05:57you see the difference between a third-string quarterback
06:01from UConn versus the guys who've been in the league.
06:04Like, that's the difference, right?
06:05As soon as things started going faster,
06:06he just was lost, and the Bills heated him up,
06:09and that's what they had to do.
06:10And maybe we can get this answer out of Jim Leonard
06:12during the week, Sal.
06:13But, like, the Bills' blitz numbers were way up.
06:17And I don't know if that would have been the case
06:18if it were Lamar in the game, right?
06:20It's the new guy goes in.
06:21Like you said, you notice they can speed him up.
06:24Let's speed him up.
06:25That might not have been the game plan going in.
06:27It just might have been,
06:28oh, this is definitely the new game plan
06:31with this guy that has seen such limited action.
06:33Yeah, and I will say this, though, Jared,
06:35and it's a great question.
06:36Today we will hear from Jim Leonard.
06:37I'll file that one away and try to ask that.
06:39But the very first play, Terrell Bernard blitzed,
06:42and he got home with Greg Russo, right?
06:45So maybe they were going to – here's my theory.
06:48I don't know this.
06:49We haven't talked to Jim Leonard yesterday.
06:50I think they wanted to test Lamar running
06:52and see can he do this right away.
06:55Let's blitz him.
06:56Let's see if he's going to move
06:57or if he's going to get rid of the ball.
06:58He got rid of the ball pretty quickly.
06:59Obviously, he hit Greg Russo's hand.
07:01And listen, obviously, you know, as a Bills fan,
07:05anybody watching, you don't have sympathy when you're –
07:08nobody has said anything for you when your team loses guys.
07:11So in the middle of a game, like, they lose a player.
07:13That's what happens.
07:13It's football.
07:14I like what Mike Tomlin said last night, and I agree.
07:17Just as a football fan, it just sucks, right?
07:19I mean, Lamar Jackson is so great.
07:21He's so dynamic.
07:22And getting him back in Baltimore, that division is so competitive.
07:25And to have this happen just sucks as a football fan.
07:28And honestly, you wake up this morning, if you're in Baltimore,
07:30you're probably having the question of if he's played his last snap
07:34in a Ravens uniform.
07:34I will say, I'm looking at NFL Pro right now,
07:37and I agree that I feel like maybe it wouldn't have held up
07:40over the course of the entire game,
07:42or Lamar could even be different than Huntley, right?
07:43We've got three guys here.
07:44The Bills did blitz Huntley on all five of his dropbacks.
07:47So maybe they would have done it to Huntley too,
07:49because he dropped back five times,
07:51and the Bills blitzed on all five of those plays.
07:53So I asked, Joe, I asked pretty much every defender in the locker room
07:57this question, which is, how did the game plan evolve and change
08:01when you went from one quarterback to the other,
08:03and then especially to the third quarterback?
08:05And you got some kind of different ways of saying the same thing,
08:08which is, look, our personnel didn't change.
08:11We know that they're still going to run the same plays,
08:13but we knew that the third guy just wasn't as mobile.
08:15I mean, that's what they said.
08:16And you could tell that they knew if they put some heat on him,
08:21and you could kind of pin your ears back.
08:22If you're Bradley Chubb, if you're Greg Rousseau,
08:24you're not worried about Fagnano getting out the back gate on you, right?
08:27So just go, just go.
08:28That's what you got to do.
08:29And it felt like that's kind of what they did there.
08:31What about the Bills on offense, Sal?
08:34In terms of like, we just talked a little bit about how they get to 36 points,
08:38kind of another one of these days where they get to 36,
08:41and it's like, how did they do that?
08:43But how did you feel about the pass catchers?
08:47And Allen had a point in the game where he might have been
08:50like seven for 20.
08:51Like, it really didn't get rolling for him until late
08:55once he got to the stats.
08:56But I don't know.
08:58Like, there were drop problems.
08:59There was fumbles.
09:01How much can you take away from that side of it?
09:04Because you do get better field position a lot of these drives,
09:07but you still are going up against the Ravens defense
09:09that you were thinking you were going to go up against.
09:12I thought they looked rusty.
09:14I thought they looked like a team that had been off for two weeks.
09:16And someone had tweeted me and said,
09:18did this team even practice during the bye?
09:20And I said, no, they're not allowed, actually.
09:22They did not practice during the bye.
09:23They did practice once they got back, but that's true.
09:26I mean, they were off.
09:27You can't do that.
09:28And they looked like a team that was rusty.
09:30They looked like a team that was off.
09:31And what happened?
09:32In the second half, they got their feet under them a little bit.
09:34It was a little bit smoother.
09:35The first drive of the second half, maybe second drive,
09:37they just started getting back to the things that they do much better.
09:41Now, still no excuse for the mistakes they made in the first half, obviously.
09:45And I thought Josh seemed a little off.
09:47I thought early in the game, he threw a couple of nice passes.
09:50There were drops.
09:50He seemed a little off overall, but then I think he got it back.
09:54The drops were inexcusable.
09:55You can't have that.
09:56Every tight end dropped a pass.
09:57Dalton Kincaid dropped a wide open touchdown, tried to run before.
10:00I think he secured it.
10:02Jackson Hawes, you can't have that happen.
10:03Not only a drop, but then the ball turns into an interception.
10:06Dawson Knox had a drop.
10:08James Cook had a drop in the very first play of the game, by the way.
10:10That might have been a little behind him from Josh,
10:12but you have to catch that ball.
10:13So, yeah, I thought that those things you can't have happen.
10:17And if you are playing Lamar Jackson team, that's a lot better.
10:21Maybe they cost you.
10:22They didn't in this game.
10:23But those are the things we say.
10:24Even though every game has its own DNA, what's true in every game,
10:27no matter what the DNA is, you can't make those kinds of mistakes
10:29and expect to win consistently in the NFL.
10:32And then, of course, they had penalties again that hurt them.
10:35They had a sequence where they had the penalty,
10:38and then they had the bad play call, which I'll get to in a second,
10:42which I didn't like as much.
10:43But those are things that they have to clean up going into next week
10:46against Minnesota because the margin for error is a lot thinner
10:50because they're playing the best defense in the league,
10:52in the Minnesota Vikings, right?
10:53So when you carry those things over, that's how you lose games.
10:56I also felt Joe Brady didn't give his team the opportunity
10:59in a couple of short yardage especially, right?
11:02And I think he's got to be better in those moments.
11:04And he said that after the game.
11:05It was, you know, Joe, what were they doing different?
11:07I think Joe Buscelli might have asked him,
11:09what were they doing different that reason why you didn't do the tush-push?
11:14He said, nothing, it's on me.
11:16He said, I just, I have to be better.
11:18And I think that's the case.
11:20I think Joe got too cute.
11:21And that's him saying, I got too cute.
11:23I wanted to do something different.
11:24Short yardage was not good yesterday.
11:25I didn't like the play calling, getting Josh Allen.
11:28Even the, I mean, interesting call, the option play.
11:31I understand what they were doing.
11:33Everybody's loading up in the box.
11:35So you have James Cook in pitch relation to you.
11:40And he has an option to do that.
11:41And he does.
11:42And then James Cook, you know, gets the first down by stretching the ball out.
11:46But just go forward with Josh.
11:48You guys are great at that.
11:49That's what they do, right?
11:50You don't have to do that.
11:51And then again, later at the goal line, that's the one that really got me.
11:55When they just sprinted Josh out to the left and he winds up getting sacked.
11:59Just go forward.
12:00That's all you needed there.
12:01So I think hopefully, you know, those lessons were learned.
12:04And maybe they were doing something to stop the tush push a little bit better.
12:08But I still would have liked them to go straight forward and do what they do best,
12:11which is run the football in the end zone.
12:13Yeah.
12:13It's funny.
12:13Like, there was one drive.
12:15And this is the one, maybe the one you're talking about where James Cook got that stretch.
12:18They didn't throw it one time.
12:20No, they got a fumble.
12:21And they ran every single play.
12:25And it was just such a strange drive, Sal, to see them do that.
12:28Nine plays, 16 yards, 411 off the clock and three points.
12:32Like, that was the drive earlier I said they became Navy.
12:34Ty Johnson had a handoff as in a three-point stance.
12:38They had.
12:38And not only, Sal, like, you know, they run the option play out of the tush push formation on fourth
12:43and one.
12:44And, like, okay, they get it.
12:45They barely get it.
12:46Cook reaches the ball across.
12:47But then they went back to it.
12:49Right?
12:49Like, they ran it again.
12:50Like, what was it, two plays later?
12:52Three?
12:52Maybe it was even a different drive.
12:53I don't remember.
12:54But it's like that play barely worked for you.
12:57And then you're going to go back to it.
12:59I just wonder if they really got spooked by the Ravens stopping a tush push earlier, which never happens.
13:05And, like, oh, maybe they have a formula here that we don't want to go back to.
13:09Right.
13:10I mean, that could be it.
13:11The other thing, Joe, I'll tell you what, guys.
13:13I think this happens a lot.
13:14I know that, like, it sounds weird because these are professional coaches.
13:18They get paid a lot of money.
13:20But I think sometimes the two weeks off allows them to get in their bag a little bit and go,
13:23ooh, what can I come up with for something?
13:25Right?
13:26And, like, you overthink and you over-trick yourself or think you're going to trick the other team.
13:30You know, you have two weeks of repair and say, what can I get in the lab and do?
13:34And then you kind of get it in your mind that I'm going to try this at some point.
13:37You know what it felt like to me?
13:38It felt to me, and this goes to even – I like them to go beyond some of these plays.
13:42Like, the slant to DJ Moore on the goal line, I hate it.
13:45Yeah.
13:45Right?
13:46Like, there's no reason to do that.
13:47That was almost picked off, by the way.
13:49Like, Josh throws it, and that's almost picked.
13:51In fact, it felt to me like Joe Brady and or Josh Allen had it in their mind they must
13:56get a certain guy a touchdown.
13:58Like, they have to get a guy a touchdown.
14:00And you can't play like that.
14:02You can't do that.
14:03You just have to do what works.
14:04But two weeks, right, you're thinking about what you can do.
14:09You're looking at your own trends.
14:10That's the thing.
14:11What do coaches always say, guys?
14:12We look at our own trends.
14:13We self-scout.
14:14They probably overcorrected their own trends, I think, in these situations, to be quite honest with you.
14:19It's kind of a funny thing to say, and I don't think you're alone in saying it, that they're trying
14:22to get a certain guy a touchdown.
14:24Wouldn't that be the second straight game they're doing that?
14:26Didn't it feel like they were doing that against the Raiders, too, with Kincaid on his birthday in his hometown?
14:30Yeah, probably, yeah.
14:31They're trying to run the offense to get certain looks.
14:33Now, whatever.
14:34If you like the guys in your offense, you're like, all right, let's get Kincaid a look here and blah,
14:38blah, blah.
14:38Anyway, DJ Moore came up big for them in this game.
14:42He was kind of quiet early on, but definitely made his stamp on this game.
14:46Sal, how did he come out from an injury standpoint?
14:48Because you noted that he was limping at one point, limping off the field, but then maybe by the time
14:54he's going back to the locker room, he's okay.
14:55So what's the latest on DJ Moore as we get into the injury report, which is brought to you by
14:59the Barnes firm?
15:00If you've been injured in a crash, call the Barnes firm 1-800-8-Million.
15:04So you guys, I think, have seen the video, his knee.
15:09I don't know if the diagnosis is, but it looks like it, like, hyperextends, right?
15:12That's what it looks like.
15:12But we can't, we don't know the exact diagnosis of it yet.
15:14And he comes off the field.
15:16He was limping noticeably right away after that play.
15:19And you're like, uh-oh.
15:20He goes in the tent very briefly.
15:21There's also video, great video, I think.
15:23John Scott, Dan Faits, I think a couple of guys that were down on the field had great video of
15:27Josh going up to the tent.
15:28And as soon as DJ comes out, he's like, oh, okay, you're cool.
15:31Yeah, like, the big relief on his face, right?
15:34So we know that happened.
15:36He was getting checked out.
15:37That was late in the game.
15:38After the game, one of the first things I did when we go on the field after the game as
15:41a media,
15:42I looked for DJ Moore, and I was filming him.
15:44And you could see that on the tweet I put out, him walking.
15:46He was having a good time.
15:48He was talking with Cameron Wolfe.
15:49He was talking with a Bill's staff member.
15:50Looked like he was fine.
15:52He, to me, did not have a limp at that point.
15:54He went in the locker room.
15:54We did talk with him.
15:56We did ask him in the locker room.
15:57I think he did use the word hyperextend, but he also said he's got to get it checked out.
16:01He said, I feel good now, but in 15 minutes from now, you know, I'm sure that will change
16:06because it's just that's what happens after every game.
16:08He did say he's got to get some things checked out.
16:10So we will wait on that.
16:12We'll see on that.
16:13I think the extra day next week could help, you know, him or anybody else having it.
16:17But if it's anything that's more significant, it won't matter if it's an extra day.
16:21And, you know, obviously that would suck.
16:23But hopefully it is nothing to be too concerned about with DJ Moore.
16:27I have a feeling we're going to be doing this touch and go thing all week, though, with
16:30DJ Moore, guys, when it comes to him on the practice field.
16:32The next step is Josh Palmer, Sal.
16:35So we'll find out about him, right?
16:37Looks like a hamstring for him, which, again, without even getting a diagnosis, that's a
16:42couple weeks.
16:43That could be an IR designation.
16:45And for anybody that wanted to have the conversation about another weapon in the passing game, if
16:49in fact something comes available like at the deadline, this opens the door for that.
16:54Do they want to just trust Skylar Bell out there more?
16:57Is it Tyrell Shavers, of course?
16:59Like, he's in the mix.
17:00Greg Dortch got a couple snaps here.
17:01Or do they feel like the loss of Palmer as the field stretcher would be significant enough
17:06to do something about it?
17:08And also, baked into that, sorry, one more element, Sal, is if it's only a four-week injury,
17:13why should they trust him to be good in four weeks?
17:16You know?
17:16Or to be available.
17:17That's what I mean.
17:18Like, why should they trust him to be healthy?
17:19You almost have been given an opportunity here to say, if you want to put your eggs in
17:24a different basket, you can do it.
17:26Agreed.
17:27And they do have a couple of baskets that are available, as you said.
17:30I mean, Skylar Bell, who has yet to have a catch in the NFL, right?
17:33He's played a couple of games now.
17:34You do have Tyrell Shavers coming back.
17:37That's right.
17:37And yeah, you mentioned it.
17:39Greg Dortch got some reps, got some run in this game.
17:41So I don't feel like it's like dire straits, obviously.
17:44You have options, and this isn't your number one receiver.
17:47However, what's interesting to me is I just did the snap counts, and I noted, even with
17:52DJ Moore back, Keon Coleman still led the team.
17:5663 snaps at wide receiver out of 82.
18:00So he was on the field for 77%.
18:02You maybe have to lean into Keon Coleman a little bit more in different situations, even
18:06though he's already on the field.
18:08I mean, we could talk about trading for a wide receiver.
18:11It feels to me like that would be like you're already, I know, make a strength of strength,
18:16I guess, but I don't know.
18:18What's the real difference you're making there other than just using Bell or using Tyrell
18:23Shavers and shuffling the deck with the guys you have?
18:26I'd rather have them.
18:27I'd rather see them go out and try to address the defense and do something like that, because
18:30I feel like I know this is a Buffalo thing to say.
18:33I feel like the answers are in that room, guys.
18:35Boy, all apologies, honestly, at the wide receiver spot.
18:37You know what I mean?
18:38I think Bell's the one I think about the most here, Sal, because what I'm wondering or thinking
18:43about is what do they lose as a skill set?
18:45Because Palmer is, right, he's the Joe Brady route guy this year.
18:49Like, he's supposed to be taking the top off the defense.
18:52He runs down the field vertical like the play gets hurt on, right?
18:55That's a pass down the field.
18:57Often when we've seen him involved this year, it's been down the field.
19:00And that separation, that's taking the top off a defense, I think DJ Moore is the guy
19:06for that.
19:06Like, he is better at it.
19:08He's getting more targets doing that, but I guess my thought would be if Moore is getting
19:14banged up here and you're worried about his availability and now Palmer's hurt, like,
19:20that's why I think of Bell.
19:21Bell is the only other one in the room, or would you consider Shaver this too, that would
19:25be the guy out there to do the Palmer stuff?
19:28Like, running routes down the field, a big play here and there, and you're taking the
19:31top off the defense.
19:32Yeah, I think Shaver's, as we saw, is more of a gunner who you can put down the field a
19:38little bit.
19:38Also, honestly, guys, like, even if you thought that about Tyrell Shavers, are you doing that
19:42right when he comes back from having this injury and having him become that guy to go down
19:45the field?
19:45I don't know if you really want to do that.
19:47And maybe use Keon Coleman more in that role, honestly.
19:50Maybe use Khalil Shakir.
19:51You know, it doesn't have to be those guys that one-for-one replacements in that role.
19:55It'll be interesting to see how they formulate here going forward at that position.
20:00You know, the Bills run so much heavy 13 personnel that a lot of times that you don't have
20:05to think about all the wide receivers on the field, yes, in certain situations.
20:08But, you know, they ran all three of their tight ends yesterday, too, as well, and they
20:11like to do that a lot.
20:12So, it'll be interesting going forward and seeing, you know, kind of what they do there.
20:16As far as any other injuries during the game, I'm trying to remember.
20:18James Cook, but he came back in.
20:20He came back.
20:21And then very early in the game, Alec Anderson went in the tent on the first drive, and then
20:26he came back out.
20:27He was fine, obviously, after the game.
20:29So, you know, those are ones.
20:30But, man, the James Cook one, Deion Dawkins was frantically waving for trainers to come
20:35on the field.
20:35Alec Anderson.
20:35He thought something was bad.
20:37Yeah.
20:38And, you know, when James Cook got up, he goes off, he was evaluated for a head injury.
20:42He came down on the head.
20:43So, that's good.
20:44And thankfully, Josh Allen's okay after the Roquan Smith tried to, you know, have you ever
20:50seen the movie The Exorcist?
20:53You know, turn the head around like that.
20:54Yeah.
20:55You know, Linda Blair, I think it is.
20:57But, yeah.
20:57He did that to Tyler Shuck earlier in the year, Sal.
21:00I tweeted out the video of that.
21:01It was worse with Shuck, but both are bad.
21:03And someone tweeted at that video, and I wonder if this could be in Brady's thought,
21:07if that's why they stopped doing the tush-push.
21:09I wondered it, too, Joe.
21:11I wondered it, too.
21:12If Brady feels like, well, we might not need it to win this game, and I'm not going to put
21:15Josh in harm's way of this dude out there that's going to, you know, injure his neck
21:20or shoulder.
21:21I don't disagree, and that is not something I think you're going to say in a press conference,
21:25but you're making a call to the league office about it on a Monday morning.
21:28Right.
21:29You know what I mean?
21:30And I don't know if the Bills will.
21:31I'm just saying, like, we probably wouldn't know that if that's the case, but I guarantee
21:35you they noticed that that happened.
21:37Very quickly, Sal.
21:38We talked about Brady and play calling.
21:40What did you think of him for game management in this game?
21:42There's the sequence at the end of the half.
21:44Okay.
21:44Good question.
21:44They run one play in the last 58 seconds before the field goal.
21:48And then, on top of that, I would probably also want to bring up the players, the starters
21:53being in as long as they were at the end.
21:54And, okay, so I'm going to take the first half sequence because I think it was a great
22:00question.
22:01I didn't like it the way he handled it.
22:04I didn't like what they were doing, what they were trying to do.
22:06After the game, I understood his reasoning.
22:08His reasoning made sense.
22:10I still didn't like it.
22:11I'll say.
22:12I would have liked him.
22:13Did you hear his reasoning?
22:15I did, yes.
22:15What he was saying?
22:16Yes.
22:18They wanted to not only close out the half with points, but not give any opportunity for
22:23the Ravens to have points.
22:24So, the best way to do that was to run the clock down and only give them one chance for
22:28one play and then a field goal, which really is what happened.
22:30However, to me, because you only had one timeout, I did not like running it down to 20 seconds
22:38because if Josh Allen or anybody gets tackled inbounds, you have to run the field goal team
22:43on and get the kickoff as, yeah, the fire drill.
22:46Now, look, you might have time to do that.
22:47It might work out, but why put yourself in that situation?
22:49If you would call timeout with 40 seconds left, how about this, guys?
22:54Call timeout with 40, 45 seconds left.
22:56And what if you actually break one down the field and now you actually have a chance at
23:00the 10-yard line because someone broke a tackle?
23:02I just thought you pigeonholed yourself to only have a certain outcome and didn't give
23:08the options.
23:08But I do understand because of the mistakes that were being made.
23:11And look, I'll get Paul Hamilton credit.
23:13He was sitting next to me and he goes, he just doesn't want to make a mistake.
23:15They made too many mistakes.
23:16And I agree with that.
23:17And Paul and I were debating this.
23:18I'm like, I totally get that.
23:20And Joe said that.
23:21He's like, I didn't want to make a mistake and have them have some time left.
23:24They were probably comfortable playing conservative knowing the third string undrafted free agent
23:28rookie quarterback was.
23:29Because the other thing about this, Sal, the funny thing to me is he didn't want to give
23:34Baltimore time after their possession, which indicates he does understand the value of
23:39the double dip because he was trying to prevent Baltimore from getting it.
23:42He doesn't want it, but he can see there's value in it.
23:47But to your point, though, Sal, and it's both things for me.
23:50One is I got to be afraid of Fagnano going down the field and if he has 40 seconds, that's
23:55one part.
23:56And I think you brought up the more important piece, Sal.
23:58The Ravens gave them a gift because they kind of let Allen walk out of bounds.
24:03If they tackle him in bounds, what's that, a seven-second play, six, seven seconds?
24:07You have 13 seconds to run your field goal team out and get the kickoff.
24:10You can probably do it.
24:12It's just going to be really, really anxious.
24:15On the starters playing, I just want to see something real quick here.
24:20Towards the end of the game, when were they in there?
24:22They didn't go out until five minutes left?
24:26They're up 19 and there were nine minutes left on the clock when the drive began and
24:31they were out there.
24:32Okay, so I mean, there's kind of a saying here in football that until the other team
24:39kind of waves the white flag, you keep your starters in.
24:41And you don't have to agree with that, but that's kind of what happened.
24:43And I have to look and see where the Ravens starter's still in.
24:46Well, guess what?
24:47If that's the case, I'm not taking Josh Allen out.
24:49But yes, to me, they should have taken their starters out a little bit earlier.
24:53I agree with that.
24:54But that might have been what was going on there.
24:56Sal, thank you.
24:57You got it, guys.
24:58Sal Capaccio on the Western Hotline on the Bills and everything we got to on this game.
25:04Bills beat the Ravens 36-10.
25:07Stats of the game brought to you by Level Financial, helping you retire better at levelfa.com.
25:12Some of the stats from this game are about, you know, Josh Allen, what he was able to do.
25:16Allen goes 21 of 34 for 289, two touchdowns and a pick.
25:21The pick, not his fault at all.
25:23And 21 of 34 could have probably been, what, like 25 of 34?
25:28He also had a big miss downfield for Coleman.
25:31Coleman ends up with a very pedestrian day.
25:34I mean, not much of anything.
25:35One catch for four yards.
25:36That could have been two for 75 and a touchdown if Allen hits him.
25:40Kincaid leads all receivers four for 86 on six targets.
25:44DJ Moore, four for 82 on seven targets.
25:48Shakir, five catches on six targets.
25:50How about Bass three for three on field goals?
25:52He's now 16 of 16 on the year, 100%.
25:57After the last time we saw him, he was 82%, which was one of the lowest marks in football.
26:01And now he's made every kick.
26:03The one that doinked in, the replay on television was pretty funny.
26:06They showed his face.
26:08And it's the face of someone that doinked one and like, got away with it.
26:12That's the face when I hit a drive and it goes off a tree and back into the fairway.
26:16Right.
26:16That was Bass.
26:17Bills win 3610.
26:19Open for your phone calls when we return.
26:20803-0550.
26:21Also, shout out the Sabres.
26:22A perfect road trip.
26:24Regulation wins out the wazoo.
26:26Yeah.
26:26All we do is win in this town.
26:28Everybody winning.
26:28It was a good weekend.
26:29It was a good week.
26:30What a week.
26:30I mean, the weather was perfect.
26:32Weather was perfect.
26:33Halloween on a Saturday, which I learned this weekend will not happen again for 11 years.
26:37Because leap years, I guess.
26:39Yeah.
26:40All right.
26:41Two wins.
26:42Two wins.
26:43The Lightning's best player wants to leave.
26:44That's great.
