When your body gets resistant to insulin, it just makes more insulin to keep your blood sugar in check. The trouble is that extra insulin also tells your body to store fat, and a lot of it ends up in your liver.

Over time that turns into non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which has now passed alcohol as the leading cause of cirrhosis, and cirrhosis is a top 10 cause of death in the US. I like to picture the liver as a storage unit that keeps getting stuffed until there's no room left.

The good news is that fiber helps. Veggies like broccoli and Brussels sprouts, and seeds like flax, can improve insulin sensitivity, cut down on fat absorption and support a healthy gut.

Let's get healthy together.
