00:03 - A conversation that we had a little bit yesterday,
00:06 looking at the path in the NFC.
00:08 There are three teams at 10 and three in that conference,
00:12 San Francisco, who currently is the number one overall seed,
00:15 the Cowboys who are currently in the first place spot
00:17 in the NFC East, based on common record in common games,
00:21 a better record in those common games than Philadelphia,
00:25 and the Birds, of course, who sit in the 5C,
00:27 the top wild card spot,
00:29 but Philly has the easiest schedule down the stretch,
00:32 more than likely still as greater than a $3 favor
00:34 to win the NFC East, they'll claim that divisional title.
00:37 Regardless, as you look at the path,
00:40 the number one seed would get the bye,
00:42 they would have home field advantage throughout,
00:44 they would take on more than likely that 5C,
00:48 if they're going to be favored,
00:49 either Philadelphia or Dallas against the 4C,
00:52 who is going to be the champion of the NFC South,
00:55 albeit on the road,
00:56 both the Cowboys and the Birds would be favored
00:59 in that game, and then the one seed,
01:01 if they reach the NFC championship,
01:03 would get to host the two seed in that potential matchup,
01:06 if things go chalk.
01:08 The two seed would take on the worst wild card team
01:11 in the NFC, and with five teams below 500
01:14 in contention for that spot right now,
01:17 they're going to be a hefty favorite.
01:19 Then they'll probably get the Detroit Lions,
01:21 who sit in the three spot, or the six spot, depending,
01:25 although that would reshuffle where things stand
01:27 in the post season, and then the two seed
01:29 would have to go on the road to the number one overall seed
01:32 with a conference championship on the line.
01:35 So as we try to paint the puzzle of this path by ourself,
01:39 it's better to be the two seed
01:42 than the one seed in the NFC.
01:45 - I'm going to sell that,
01:46 even though I do like the concept of the number two seed
01:48 actually has a better path than the one seed here,
01:50 and you might get an even better argument out of me, Ben,
01:52 if it was a couple of years ago
01:53 where both the one and the two seeds each got the bye week.
01:56 But as we know, rest is so important.
01:58 Me being a Philadelphia Eagles fan,
02:00 watching the past two weeks with a rest disadvantage
02:02 against quality ball clubs,
02:03 it usually doesn't work out in your favor.
02:06 It's an anomaly if you overcome those hurdles,
02:08 because rest in the NFL is so important.
02:10 And also, if we're looking at the true number one
02:12 overall seed, if it is the San Francisco 49ers,
02:15 and again, we're not talking about this in the AFC,
02:17 just in the NFC here,
02:18 the teams that the San Francisco 49ers would face,
02:21 the Philadelphia Eagles and or the Dallas Cowboys,
02:24 it's like, come on, man,
02:24 they already smashed both of those teams here,
02:27 and they would be home rested and ready,
02:29 which means for an entire month in the playoffs,
02:31 San Francisco won't be flying out of the Western Times
02:33 on there and staying home.
02:34 But there is some merit to it here when you line up,
02:37 because sometimes the path of least resistance
02:40 is your best friend here.
02:41 So if you are the Dallas Cowboys,
02:42 you currently sit in that two seed,
02:44 and you just play a chalk,
02:45 you should be favored in those football games
02:48 to get to the NFC championship game.
02:50 And then you're trying to play that card of,
02:52 hey, even though San Francisco did have a break here
02:54 and got that first round by,
02:56 they had to go to war against the Philadelphia Eagles
02:58 to beat them.
02:59 Maybe with overtime, maybe it's a battle of attrition
03:01 where the Cowboys walked a little bit easier here
03:03 into that spot.
03:05 Normally, I would say absolutely not,
03:07 but there is a little bit of merit here in the NFC
03:09 to be the two seed,
03:10 but I'm still gonna sell that notion.
03:12 Number one overall seed, only bye week,
03:13 you're at home, you're supposed to go to the Super Bowl.
