00:00Hi everybody, Brandon Plotnick, the DPD in Fayetteville here again.
00:10This edition we're going to talk a little bit about categories and tagging just to let you know
00:15how those impact where your stories get placed and what they end up doing. So we're going to
00:20take an article that's already been done, this Naomi Graham story. We're going to look at how
00:26categories are impacted here. So categories are going to be over here on the right. We went over
00:31those during the writing of the post portion. And there are a bunch of categories that are all
00:36going to be different depending on your stations. Lots of different options to choose. Categories
00:42impact what content ribbons your stories go into. So let's take a look at what content ribbons are.
00:49On your homepage, all of these operate kind of like Netflix does, where you have a ribbon filled
00:55with content. Those ribbons, all with labels on them, like this one, lifestyle and local news,
01:02get content based on the category you choose. So you can see this one is a lifestyle ribbon.
01:08This one is a music ribbon. This is a must have ribbon. This one is a morning show ribbon.
01:15So if we go take a look at what we have in this story, we have a human interest category tagged
01:22and a lifestyle category tagged and a local news category tagged. All three of these in our case
01:29do the same thing. We use these for syndicating across our other sites. But the local news one was
01:35the important one here because that made it show up right here in this ribbon. The other element
01:42all there, there is a summer games ribbon as well. But we could have added it to Don Chase and Sarah's
01:50show as well and have that show up in their ribbon additionally as well. So those ribbons all get fed
01:58based on which categories you choose on your story. So that's what categories do. Tags, on the other hand,
02:06allow you to go find related content on our site. So think of this from the viewer's standpoint.
02:13If they're on this article about Naomi Graham, they want to find additional items. You'll see at the
02:20bottom of the article, this one has a photo gallery on it. So it's going to be way down at the bottom.
02:27There are the categories that we had selected, which you can click on to see any additional articles
02:33in those categories, and the tags. So in this case, we tagged the Olympics. So if we clicked on that,
02:39it's going to bring up any other stories that are tagged Olympics. You do want to be careful with what
02:46you're tagging here so that you don't have typos or anything that might be different. These are going
02:50to be locked down soon so that it'll be a little bit easier for you. But just be careful. If you start
02:56pre-typing one of these, it will fill in some additional tags for you. Just choose one of those
03:05tags to make it a little easier on yourself. So let's see if we add a boxing. It helps if I type
03:11correctly. Let's add a boxing tag because this is about boxing. And then we'll update our article.
03:19Oh, link has expired because I signed out. Let's try that again.
03:30Apologize. That one worked. Let's go back to our article. Let's refresh that. And you'll see at the
03:38bottom of this article now, we now have a boxing tag on here. So if we click on that, there'll be any
03:45other articles tagged with boxing. And in this case, that's the only article tagged with boxing. So
03:50that's what tags do. Categories help you with your content ribbons. So just be careful about which
03:57ones of those you're choosing. And you'll be all set.
