00:00Well, on the phone right now is a man we have watched entertain millions and millions of people.
00:06He hails from Galveston, Texas.
00:08He is the son of a U.S. Navy doctor.
00:10One of his first jobs was a DJ at a nightclub in Dallas, Texas.
00:15He is an ordained minister with a degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University.
00:19Go Lopes.
00:20He was part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, where reportedly he shared a bunk bed with Larry the Cable Guy.
00:25We don't know if that's true or not.
00:26We just heard that.
00:27But ladies and gentlemen, tonight he will be at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland for us.
00:31Here's your sign.
00:32It's finally time.
00:33Tour, please welcome Bill Involve.
00:38Well, I've got to be honest.
00:39I don't know if I can follow that.
00:40That was pretty good.
00:41Hey, man, I'm here.
00:42I'm for hire.
00:43We do that for all our guests, so you know that we do our research.
00:46But, you know, Bill, this is kind of your farewell tour, and it kind of bumps us out.
00:51I mean, why are we doing this?
00:52You know, when I finally realized that it was about time for me to give up the road,
00:57I didn't want to just, you know, as Barney Fife would say, I didn't want to just nip it in the bud.
01:03You know, it was, I wanted to kind of tour different parts of the country that have been really good to me over the years,
01:08and obviously the Florida area has been awesome to me.
01:10So, you know, I'm just trying to kind of hit areas that have supported me throughout the years
01:16and just give people one last chance to hear the old stand-up.
01:18Yeah.
01:19And, Bill, you know, coming to Florida, a lot of material here.
01:21A lot of material.
01:23Florida has provided some material, I will tell you that.
01:27That's awesome.
01:28Are you going to be doing a lot of new stuff then on stage?
01:31You know, that's a great question.
01:33I'm probably, it's going to be a lot of a mixture of stuff,
01:36because there's going to be people that are going to want to hear some of the old classic bits.
01:39Classics, yep.
01:40Then there's also, you know, I'm going to throw in some new stuff there.
01:44As my analogy would be, if you and I were driving to see Aerosmith on the way over,
01:48none of us is going to say, well, I hope they play all new stuff.
01:50Right, exactly.
01:52You know, it's funny, though, because you do talk a lot about your family and your kids.
01:55I feel like you could do some of your best bits,
01:57but there's got to be some updated versions of what happened now
02:00or where they're at now in some of these jokes.
02:02Yeah, well, yeah, exactly.
02:03Like when, you know, it's funny when they do stuff when they're three and four years old,
02:07but when they're 35 anymore, it's not funny anymore.
02:11Exactly.
02:12I'm talking to Bill Engvall, going to be at the RP Funding Center tonight in Lakeland.
02:16You know, Bill, you talk about, you know, your comedy evolving and things like that.
02:20Do your kids care about what you do at all?
02:24Do they think you're funny?
02:26I think they do.
02:28I don't think I'm their type of humor.
02:31So it's a tough room at home is what you're saying?
02:33Oh, it's always a tough room for me.
02:35That's why I don't even try stuff out at home.
02:37It's just because otherwise I'd have no act at all.
02:40I just try to, you know, like, but I think they like what I do.
02:43I think they also enjoy the perks of the business.
02:45It's not that I forget that.
02:47But, yeah, no, I don't think I'm any, I don't even my wife,
02:51I don't think I'm their type of humor.
02:52Because, you know, I'm pretty basic.
02:56My daughter's very dry sense of humor.
02:58My son, probably my son's the closest to my style of humor.
03:02Well, we know that you love a lot of country music.
03:04Are you, like, really good friends with any big country artists
03:08that you text frequently a lot with?
03:10Yeah, that's been one of the great things about my career is
03:13we got to know a lot of the artists.
03:15But, yeah, like Reba, John Michael, and, you know,
03:19I don't know too many of the newer ones.
03:21Right.
03:21Who would you say is the most famous person
03:23that you text back and forth with?
03:26Probably Reba.
03:27Nice.
03:28Yeah, that's a legend right there.
03:29And I feel like you guys have similar comedy in her dry.
03:32She's a very funny person.
03:34I got to tell you something.
03:35I'm so happy she's not trying to do stand-up
03:37because I'd be out of a job.
03:38Yeah, she's one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life.
03:42And just as sweet as she can be.
03:43It was weird.
03:44Like, it's funny that you bring this up
03:46because it'll go a couple months before, you know,
03:49and out of the blue, like, two days ago,
03:51I get this text, hey, happy Thanksgiving.
03:53How's everything going?
03:54Miss you.
03:55I'm like, oh, hey, Reba.
03:57Yeah, Reba's texting me.
03:58I love that.
03:59By the way, Reba just texted me, everybody.
04:00Are you looking for that?
04:01Yeah.
04:02That's awesome.
04:02It'd be funny if you responded, which Reba is this?
04:04I'm sorry, who, yeah.
04:06I'm sorry, who is this?
04:06A lot of people buy tickets to see your show.
04:09Who do you buy tickets to see?
04:12Oh, good gracious.
04:13The last concert I went to, this is going to make you laugh.
04:21So one year for Christmas, I decided, I asked my wife what she wanted for Christmas.
04:25She goes, I'd like to get, I want to go see Pink.
04:27Oh.
04:29Yeah.
04:29So I said, okay.
04:30So I got her four tickets to Pink thinking she's going to take her and her three of her girlfriends.
04:34Yeah.
04:34And I gave her the tickets on Christmas Day.
04:37She goes, you're going with me, right?
04:38And I'm like, um, no.
04:42But it was a great concert, though, wasn't it?
04:44It was a great concert.
04:46But I called a buddy of mine.
04:47I said, look, I will fly you and your wife out here if you'll go to this concert with me.
04:51I was, I was the oldest, straightest guy in the concert.
04:57That was awesome.
04:59Unfortunately, that was my last concert a couple of years ago.
05:02The only thing I'd say about that, Bill, and I don't know if this is the one you saw, the tour you saw, but she does like a whole acrobatic thing where she's like swinging over the audience and stuff like that.
05:10Yeah, I will tell you what drove me crazy, though, is like the show in Florida, I believe it's at 730 for me tonight.
05:19Yeah.
05:20All right.
05:20So let me just tell you this.
05:21The show is going to start within five minutes of that time.
05:25I know where he's going.
05:27Apparently, Pink sometimes forgets she's on stage.
05:31She's got to be on stage to do a show because we, the opening act went on.
05:34They did 30 minutes, walked off.
05:37Hour and 45 minutes later, Pink comes on.
05:39Oh, my gosh.
05:41You should have seen me.
05:42I was like, I was going to implode.
05:45I want my concert now.
05:48Yeah.
05:48And it's like, this is insane.
05:51We're leaving.
05:52She's like, no, we can't.
05:53I will go, all she's doing is running her commercials.
05:56I was impressed with her and her show.
05:59I was not impressed with the way she runs her show.
06:02I doubt seriously that Pink gets up every morning going, wonder what Bill Engvall thinks about me.
06:07I was going to say, you know, maybe this is the next chapter of your life.
06:10You're going to have consulting when it comes to how you should structure a show, maybe.
06:13Yeah.
06:14If you don't want to go on until 9, then just make the ticket on the ticket.
06:17I'll be on at 9 o'clock.
06:18Well, Bill Engvall going to be at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland tonight for the Here's Your Sign, It's Finally Time Tour.
06:28Bill, we just can't say thank you enough for literally all the years, the time away from your family, all the specials, the TV shows, all the fun things you've done to bring us the joy of laughter.
06:38I know it's a ton of work that people don't realize behind the scenes.
06:42It's a lot, a lot of time put in, you know, even when you're not on stage.
06:45So we appreciate you so much.
06:46Go see Bill tonight.
06:48That was really, really sweet of you to say that.
06:50And thank you guys for all the support you've given me over the years.
06:52We'll see you in a few hours.
06:53All right.
06:54Sounds good to me, Bill.
06:54And by the way, this intro that I had is totally ready for tonight if you need me to come down.
07:00All right.
07:01Have a great day.
07:02Good luck tonight.
07:02You do.
07:03Bye-bye, guys.
07:03Bye-bye.
07:04Bye-bye.
07:04Bye-bye.
