00:00Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the burning of several copies
00:05of the Quran near a football field in Taman Bandar, Senawang, Seremban last Friday.
00:10In a statement, Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Al-Zafni Ahmad said the suspect was detained
00:15at a hotel on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Chaukit, Kuala Lumpur at 9.30pm yesterday.
00:22Police had earlier received a report about the burned copies near the field, followed
00:27by another report about the theft of Quran copies from a mosque in Forest Heights.
00:32Officers later raided the suspect's hotel room and found two suitcases and a backpack
00:37containing 16 copies of the Quran.
00:40Al-Zafni said the copies were believed to have been stolen from mosques and suraus around
00:45Chaukit, while some may have been taken from a university in the north.
00:49Police then searched the suspect's family home in Senawang and seized 36 Quran book covers
00:54from his room, which are believed to be linked to the burning incident.
00:59Al-Zafni said the suspect had four previous offences on his record and had completed a
01:04police supervision order two months ago.
01:07The suspect will be brought before the Seremban Magistrates Court for a remand order to facilitate
01:12investigations into theft and defiling a sacred object with intent to insult a religion.
