00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 18
05:02He said,
05:03I love you, Lord, my source of strength.
05:07The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer.
05:11My God is my rocky summit, where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
05:20I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was delivered from my enemies.
05:27The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.
05:33The ropes of shale tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.
05:39In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried out to my God.
05:45From his heavenly temple he heard my voice, he listened to my cry for help.
05:51The earth heaved and shook, the roots of the mountains trembled, they heaved because he was angry.
06:00Smoke ascended from his nose, fire devoured, as it came from his mouth.
06:05He hurled down fiery coals.
06:09He made the sky sink as he descended, a thick cloud was under his feet.
06:16He mounted a winged angel and flew, he glided on the wings of the wind.
06:21He shrouded himself in darkness, in thick rainclothes.
06:26From the brightness in front of him came hail and fiery coals.
06:32The Lord thundered in the sky, the Most High shouted.
06:36He shot his arrows and scattered them, many lighting bolts and routed them.
06:42The depths of the sea were exposed, the inner regions of the world were uncovered by your battle cry, Lord,
06:50by the powerful breath from your nose.
06:54He reached down from above and took hold of me, he pulled me from the surging water.
07:00He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me, for they were too strong for me.
07:07They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me.
07:13He brought me out into a wide open place.
07:17He delivered me because he was pleased with me.
07:21The Lord repaid me for my godly deeds.
07:24He rewarded my blameless behavior.
07:27For I have obeyed the Lord's commands.
07:31I have not rebelled against my God.
07:34For I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject his rules.
07:40I was innocent before him and kept myself from sinning.
07:46The Lord rewarded me for my godly deeds.
07:49He took notice of my blameless behavior.
07:53You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful.
07:57You prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.
08:02You prove to be reliable to one who is blameless,
08:06but you prove to be deceptive to one who is perverse.
08:11For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.
08:18Indeed, you light my lamp, Lord.
08:21My God illuminates the darkness around me.
08:25Indeed, with your help, I can charge against an army.
08:30By my God's power, I can jump over a wall.
08:35The one true God acts in a faithful manner.
08:38The Lord's promise is reliable.
08:41He is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
08:47Indeed, who is God beside the Lord?
08:50Who is protector beside our God?
08:54The one true God gives me strength.
08:56He removes the obstacles in my way.
09:00He gives me the agility of a deer.
09:03He enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.
09:07He trains my hands for battle.
09:10My arms can bend even the strongest bow.
09:15You give me your protective shield.
09:18Your right hand supports me.
09:20Your willingness to help enables me to prevail.
09:24You widen my path.
09:26My feet do not slip.
09:28I chase my enemies and catch them.
09:31I do not turn back until I wipe them out.
09:35I beat them to death.
09:37They fall at my feet.
09:40You give me strength for battle.
09:42You make my foes kneel before me.
09:45You make my enemies retreat.
09:48I destroy those who hate me.
09:51They cry out, but there is no one to help them.
09:55They cry out to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
09:58I grind them as fine wind-blown dust.
10:04I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.
10:08You rescue me from a hostile army.
10:11You make me a leader of nations.
10:13People over whom I had no authority are now my subjects.
10:19When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me.
10:23Foreigners are powerless before me.
10:25Foreigners lose their courage.
10:27They shake with fear as they leave their strongholds.
10:31The Lord is alive.
10:33My protector is praiseworthy.
10:35The God who delivers me is exalted as king.
10:40The one true God completely vindicates me.
10:44He makes nations submit to me.
10:47He delivers me from my enemies.
10:50You snatch me away from those who attack me.
10:54You rescue me from violent men.
10:57So I will give you thanks before the nations, O Lord.
11:02I will sing praises to you.
11:05He gives his king magnificent victories.
11:08He is faithful to his chosen ruler,
11:11to David and his descendants forever.
11:15Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
11:19as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
11:23world without end.
11:25Amen.
11:30The prophet Amos, chapter 8.
11:35Then the Lord Yahweh showed me a basket of summer fruit.
11:39He said to me,
11:41Amos, what is it you see?
11:44I said, a basket of summer fruit.
11:47Then Yahweh said to me,
11:49The end has come on my people Israel.
11:52I will not again pass by them anymore.
11:55The songs of the temple will be wailing in that day,
11:59said the Lord Yahweh.
12:01The dead bodies will be many.
12:03In every place they will throw them out with silence.
12:08Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy
12:11and cause the poor of the land to fail, saying,
12:16When will the new moon be gone that we may sell grain?
12:20Of the Sabbath, that we may market wheat,
12:23making the ephah small and the shekel large,
12:27dealing falsely with balances of deceit,
12:29that we may buy the poor for silver
12:32and the needy for a pair of shoes
12:34and sell all the sweepings with the wheat.
12:39Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob.
12:42Surely I will never forget any of their works.
12:45Won't the land tremble for this
12:47and everyone more who dwells in it?
12:52Yes, it will rise up wholly like the river
12:55and it will be stirred up and sink again
12:58like the river of Egypt.
13:01It will happen in that day, said the Lord Yahweh,
13:04that I will cause the sun to go down at noon,
13:06that I will darken the earth in the clear day.
13:10I will turn your feasts into mourning
13:12and all your songs into lamentation.
13:17I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies
13:19and boldness on every head.
13:22I will make it like the mourning for an only sun
13:25and its end like a bitter day.
13:30Behold, the days come, said the Lord Yahweh,
13:32that I will send a famine in the land,
13:35not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water,
13:39but of hearing Yahweh's words.
13:42They will wander from sea to sea,
13:44from the north even to the east.
13:47They will run back and forth to seek Yahweh's word
13:50and they will not find it.
13:54In that day the beautiful virgin and the young man
13:57will faint for thirst.
13:59And those who swear by the sin of Samaria and say,
14:02as your God Dan lives
14:04and as the way of Beersheba lives,
14:08they will fall and never rise up again.
14:14This is the word of the Lord.
14:17Thanks be to God.
14:29Mary said,
14:31My soul exalts the Lord
14:33and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:38because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:44For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:48because he who is mighty has done great things for me
14:52and holy is his name.
14:55From generation to generation
14:57he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:01He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:05He has scattered those whose pride wells up
15:08from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:11He has brought down the mighty from their thrones
15:14and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:17He has filled the hungry with good things
15:20and has sent the rich away empty.
15:24He has helped his servant Israel,
15:27remembering his mercy
15:28as he promised to our ancestors,
15:31to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
15:37Glory be to the Father
15:38and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
15:41as it was in the beginning,
15:43is now and ever shall be,
15:46world without end.
15:48Amen.
15:54The Gospel according to St. Luke chapter 6
15:58It came about that on the Sabbath
16:01Jesus was going through the fields of grain,
16:04his disciples taking the heads of grain for food,
16:07crushing them in their hands.
16:10But some of the Pharisees said,
16:12Why do you do what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?
16:18Jesus said,
16:19Have you not seen in the writings
16:20what David did when he was in need of food,
16:24he and those who were with him?
16:27How he went into the house of God
16:29and took for food the holy bread,
16:31which only the priests may take,
16:34and gave it to those who were with him.
16:37He said,
16:38The Son of Man is Lord even on the Sabbath.
16:43And it happened on another Sabbath
16:45that Jesus went into a synagogue
16:47and was teaching them.
16:49A man was there whose right hand was dead.
16:52And the scribes and Pharisees watched him
16:55to see if he could make him well on the Sabbath,
16:59that they might be able to say something against him.
17:04He had knowledge of their thoughts
17:06and said to the man whose hand was dead,
17:09Get up and come into the middle.
17:12And he got up and came forward.
17:15Jesus said,
17:17I put the question to you.
17:19Is it right to do good on the Sabbath
17:21or to do evil?
17:22To give life
17:24or to take it away?
17:27Looking around at all of them,
17:30he said to the man,
17:32Put out your hand.
17:34And he did so,
17:35and his hand was made well.
17:37But they were full of wrath
17:39and were talking together
17:41about what they might do to Jesus.
17:47It was during this time
17:48that Jesus went out onto the mountain
17:51to pray
17:51and he spent all night in prayer to God.
17:55When the morning came,
17:56he called his disciples
17:57and chose twelve of them,
18:00whom he named the apostles,
18:02Simon,
18:03who he called Peter
18:04and his brother Andrew,
18:06James,
18:07John,
18:07Philip,
18:08Bartholomew,
18:09Matthew,
18:11Thomas,
18:12James,
18:12the son of Alphaeus,
18:14Simon,
18:14the zealot,
18:16Judas,
18:17the son of James
18:17and Judas Iscariot,
18:20who would become a traitor.
18:23Then he went down with them
18:24and stood on a level place.
18:28A large number of his disciples
18:30had gathered
18:31along with a great multitude
18:32from all over Judea,
18:34from Jerusalem
18:35and from the coasts
18:36of Tyre and Sidon.
18:38They came to hear him
18:39and to be healed
18:40of their diseases
18:41and those who suffered
18:43from unclean spirits
18:45were cured.
18:46The whole crowd
18:48tried to touch him
18:49because power was coming from him
18:52and healing them all.
18:54This is the word of the Lord.
18:57Thanks be to God.
19:09Now according to your word,
19:12Sovereign Lord,
19:13permit your servant
19:14to depart in peace.
19:16For my eyes have seen
19:18your salvation
19:19that you have prepared
19:21in the presence
19:21of all peoples,
19:23a light for revelation
19:25to the Gentiles
19:27and for glory
19:28to your people Israel.
19:32Glory be to the Father
19:33and to the Son
19:34and to the Holy Spirit,
19:36as it was in the beginning,
19:38is now and ever shall be,
19:40world without end.
19:42Amen.
19:47I believe in God,
19:49the Father Almighty,
19:51maker of heaven and earth,
19:53and in Jesus Christ,
19:54his only Son,
19:55our Lord,
19:57who was conceived
19:58by the Holy Spirit,
20:00born of the Virgin Mary,
20:02suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
20:05was crucified,
20:07dead,
20:08and buried.
20:09He descended into hell.
20:10On the third day
20:12he rose again
20:13from the dead.
20:14He ascended into heaven
20:16and is sitting
20:18at the right hand
20:19of God the Father Almighty.
20:21From there he shall come
20:23to judge the living
20:24and the dead.
20:26I believe in the Holy Spirit,
20:28the Holy Catholic Church,
20:30the communion of saints,
20:32the forgiveness of sins,
20:34the resurrection of the body,
20:37and the life everlasting.
20:39Amen.
20:45The Lord be with you
20:47and with your spirit.
20:51Let us pray.
20:55Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:58Christ, have mercy upon us.
21:03Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:10Our Father,
21:11who is in heaven,
21:13holy is your name.
21:15May your kingdom come.
21:18May your will be done
21:20on earth as it is in heaven.
21:23Give us this day
21:24our daily bread.
21:25Forgive us our trespasses,
21:27as we forgive those
21:29who trespass against us.
21:32Lead us not into temptation,
21:34but deliver us from evil.
21:37For yours is the kingdom,
21:40the power and the glory,
21:42for ever and ever.
21:45Amen.
21:49O Lord, show your mercy upon us
21:52and grant us
21:54your salvation.
21:58Protect and guide
22:00those in authority over us
22:03and mercifully hear us
22:05when we call upon you.
22:09Endue your ministers
22:10with righteousness
22:12and make your chosen people
22:15joyful.
22:17O Lord, save your people
22:21and bless your inheritance.
22:25Give peace in our time,
22:28O Lord,
22:29because there is none other
22:31who fights for us
22:32but only you, O God.

22:57to withstand the temptations
22:59of the world,

23:05follow you,
23:06the only God.
23:08Through Jesus Christ,
23:09our Lord.
23:10Amen.

23:20from whom all holy desires,
23:23all good counsels
23:24and all just works

23:28that peace

24:06of your only Son,
24:08our Saviour,
24:08Jesus Christ.
24:10Amen.
24:14Almighty God,
24:15who has given us grace
