00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 53
05:01Fools say to themselves, there is no God.
05:04They sin and commit evil deeds.
05:07None of them does what is right.
05:10God looks down from heaven at the human race,
05:14to see if there is anyone who is wise, and seeks God.
05:19Everyone rejects God.
05:20They are all morally corrupt.
05:23None of them does what is right.
05:25Not even one.
05:29All those who behave wickedly do not understand.
05:32Those who devour my people, as if they were eating bread,
05:36and do not call out to God.
05:39They are absolutely terrified,
05:42even by things that do not normally cause fear.
05:46For God annihilates those who attack you.
05:50You are able to humiliate them because God has rejected them.
05:55I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion.
05:59When God restores the well-being of his people,
06:02may Jacob rejoice.
06:04May Israel be happy.
06:09Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:12as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
06:17world without end.
06:19Amen.
06:20Amen.
06:25Psalm 54
06:28O God, deliver me by your name.
06:31Vindicate me by your power.
06:34O God, listen to my prayer.
06:37Pay attention to what I say.
06:39For foreigners attack me.
06:41Ruthless men who do not respect God
06:44seek my life.
06:46Look, God is my deliverer.
06:49The Lord is among those who support me.
06:52May those who wait to ambush me be repaid for their evil.
06:57As a demonstration of your faithfulness, destroy them.
07:02With the freewill offering, I will sacrifice to you.
07:06I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
07:12Surely he rescues me from all trouble,
07:15and I triumph over my enemies.
07:20Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
07:24as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
07:28world without end.
07:30Amen.
07:35Psalm 55
07:39Listen, O God, to my prayer.
07:41Do not ignore my appeal for mercy.
07:45Pay attention to me, and answer me.
07:47I am upset and distressed.
07:49I am beside myself,
07:51because of what the enemy says,
07:54and of how they wicked pressure me.
07:57For they hurl trouble down upon me,
08:00and angrily attack me.
08:04My heart beats violently within me.
08:07The horrors of death overcome me.
08:10Fear and panic overpower me.
08:13Terror overwhelms me.
08:16I say, I wish I had wings like a dove.
08:19I would fly away and settle in a safe place.
08:25Look, I will escape to a distant place.
08:28I will stay in the wilderness.
08:31I will hurry off to a place that is safe
08:34from the strong wind and the gale.
08:38Confuse them, O Lord.
08:40Frustrate their plans,
08:41for I see violence and conflict in the city.
08:46Day and night, they walk around its walls,
08:49while wickedness and destruction are within it.
08:54Disaster is within it.
08:55Violence and deceit do not depart from its public square.
09:01Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me,
09:04or else I could bear it.
09:05It is not one who hates me arrogantly,
09:08who taunts me,
09:09or else I could hide from him.
09:13But it is you, a man like me,
09:16my close friend in whom I confided.
09:21We would share personal thoughts with each other.
09:24In God's temple, we would walk together among the crowd.
09:30May death destroy them.
09:31May they go down alive in Sheol,
09:33for evil is their dwelling place and in their midst.
09:38As for me, I will call out to the Lord,
09:41and the Lord will deliver me.
09:45During the evening, morning, and the noontime,
09:47I will lament and moan,
09:49and he will hear me.
09:52He will rescue me and protect me from those who attack me,
09:55even though they greatly outnumber me.
10:00God, the one who has reigned as king from long ago,
10:03will hear and humiliate them.
10:07They refuse to change and do not fear God.
10:11He attacks them.
10:13He breaks his solemn promises to them.
10:17His words are as smooth as butter,
10:19but he harbors animosity in his heart.
10:23His words seem softer than oil,
10:26but they are really like sharp swords.
10:31Throw your burden upon the Lord,
10:33and he will sustain you.
10:35He will never allow the godly to be shaken.
10:39But you, O Lord, will bring them down to the deep pit.
10:44Violent and deceitful people
10:46will not live even half a normal lifespan.
10:50But as for me, I trust in you.
10:55Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
10:57and to the Holy Spirit,
10:59as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
11:04world without end.
11:06Amen.
11:14The Prophet Naum, Chapter 1
11:19The Oracle Against Nineveh
11:21The Book of the Vision of Nahum the Elkoshite
11:27The Lord is a zealous and avenging God.
11:30The Lord is avenging and very angry.
11:34The Lord takes vengeance against his foes.
11:37He sustains his rage against his enemies.
11:42The Lord is slow to anger, but great in power.
11:45The Lord will certainly not allow the wicked to go unpunished.
11:50He marches out in the whirlwind and the raging storm.
11:54Dark storm clouds billow like dust under his feet.
11:59He shouts a battle cry against the sea and makes it dry up.
12:03He makes all the rivers run dry.
12:06Bashan and Carmel wither.
12:09The blossom of Lebanon withers.
12:12The mountains tremble before him.
12:14The hills convulse.
12:17The earth is laid waste before him.
12:20The world and all its inhabitants are laid waste.
12:24No one can withstand his indignation.
12:28No one can resist his fierce anger.
12:32His wrath is poured out like volcanic fire.
12:36Boulders are broken up as he approaches.
12:40The Lord is good.
12:42Indeed, he is a fortress in times of distress.
12:45Protecting those who seek refuge in him.
12:50But with an overwhelming flood, he will make a complete end of Nineveh.
12:55He will drive his enemies into darkness.
12:59Whatever you plot against the Lord, he will completely destroy.
13:05Distress will not arise a second time.
13:09Surely they will be totally consumed like entangled thorn bushes.
13:14Like the drink of drunkards.
13:17Like very dry stubble.
13:20From you, Nineveh, one has marched forth.
13:23Who plots evil against the Lord.
13:25A wicked military strategist.
13:29This is what the Lord says.
13:32Even though they are powerful and what is more.
13:35Even though their army is numerous.
13:38Nevertheless, they will be destroyed.
13:40And trickle away.
13:43Although I afflicted you more.
13:45I will afflict you no more.
13:50Now, I will break Assyria's yoke bar from your neck.
13:54I will tear apart the shackles that are on you.
13:58The Lord has issued a decree against you.
14:01Your dynasty will come to an end.
14:04I will destroy the idols and images in the temples of your gods.
14:08I will desecrate your grave.
14:12Because you are accursed.
14:15Look, a herald is running on the mountains.
14:18A messenger is proclaiming deliverance.
14:22Celebrate your sacred festivals, O Judah.
14:26Fulfill your sacred vows to praise God.
14:29For never again will the wicked Assyrians invade you.
14:33They have been completely destroyed.
14:37This is the word of the Lord.
14:40Thanks be to God.
14:55Mary said,
14:56My soul exalts the Lord,
14:59and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:03because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:09For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
15:13because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
15:17and holy is his name.
15:20From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:26He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:30He has scattered those whose pride wells up
15:33from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:36He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
15:39and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:43He has filled the hungry with good things,
15:45and has sent the rich away empty.
15:49He has helped his servant Israel,
15:52remembering his mercy,
15:54as he promised to our ancestors,
15:57to Abraham,
15:58and to his descendants for ever.
16:02Glory be to the Father,
16:04and to the Son,
16:04and to the Holy Spirit,
16:06as it was in the beginning,
16:08is now,
16:09and ever shall be,
16:11world without end.
16:13Amen.
16:20The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
16:23Chapter 9
16:27Now, about eight days after these sayings,
16:30Jesus took with him Peter,
16:32John,
16:33and James,
16:34and went up the mountain to pray.
16:37As he was praying,
16:39the appearance of his face was transformed,
16:42and his clothes became a very bright,
16:44brilliant white.
16:48Then two men,
16:49Moses and Elijah,
16:51began talking with him.
16:54They appeared in glorious splendour,
16:57and spoke of his departure,
16:59that he was to carry out in Jerusalem.
17:03Now Peter and those with him were quite sleepy,
17:06but as they awoke,
17:08they saw his glory,
17:09and the two men standing with him.
17:12And as the two men were starting to leave,
17:14Peter said to Jesus,
17:16Master,
17:17it is good for us to be here.
17:19Let us make three shelters for you,
17:22one for you,
17:23and one for Moses,
17:24and one for Elijah.
17:26Not quite knowing what he was saying.
17:30And as he was saying this,
17:32a cloud came and overshadowed them,
17:35so that they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
17:38And then a voice came out of the cloud,
17:41saying,
17:42This is my son,
17:43my chosen one.
17:45Listen to him.
17:49After the voice had spoken,
17:52Jesus was found alone.
17:54And so they kept silent,
17:56and told no one at that time anything of what they had seen.
18:03The next day,
18:04when they had descended from the mountain,
18:06the great multitude met him.
18:09And behold,
18:10a man from the crowd called out,
18:12saying,
18:13Teacher,
18:13I beg you,
18:14look at my son,
18:16for he is my only child.
18:19Behold,
18:20the spirit takes him,
18:21and suddenly he cries out,
18:23and it convulses him,
18:25so that he foams,
18:27and it hardly departs from him,
18:29bruising him severely.
18:32I begged your disciples to cast it out,
18:35but they could not.
18:38Jesus answered,
18:41Faithless and perverse generation,
18:43how long shall I be with you,
18:47and bear with you?
18:49Bring your son here.
18:52And while he was still coming,
18:54the demon threw him down,
18:56and convulsed him violently.
18:59But Jesus rebuked the undleaned spirit,
19:02and healed the boy,
19:04giving him back to his father.
19:08They were all astonished,
19:10at the mighty power of God.
19:11But while the entire crowd,
19:13was amazed at what Jesus was doing,
19:16he said to his disciples,
19:18Take these words to heart,
19:20for the Son of Man,
19:22will be betrayed,
19:22into the hands of men.
19:25But they did not understand,
19:27this statement.
19:28For its meaning,
19:29had been concealed from them,
19:32that they would not grasp it.
19:34And they were afraid to ask him about it.
19:38This is the word of the Lord.
19:41Thanks be to God.
19:52Now according to your word,
19:54Sovereign Lord,
19:55permit your servant to depart in peace.
19:59For my eyes have seen your salvation,
20:02that you have prepared,
20:04in the presence of all peoples,
20:07a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
20:10and for glory to your people Israel.
20:15Glory be to the Father,
20:17and to the Son,
20:17and to the Holy Spirit,
20:19as it was in the beginning,
20:21is now,
20:22and ever shall be,
20:23world without end.
20:25Amen.
20:30I believe in God,
20:32the Father Almighty,
20:34maker of heaven and earth,
20:36and in Jesus Christ,
20:37his only Son,
20:38our Lord,
20:39who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
20:43born of the Virgin Mary,
20:45suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
20:48was crucified,
20:50dead,
20:50and buried.
20:51He descended into hell.
20:53On the third day,
20:55he rose again from the dead.
20:57He ascended into heaven,
20:59and is sitting at the right hand of God,
21:02the Father Almighty.
21:04From there he shall come to judge the living,
21:07and the dead.
21:09I believe in the Holy Spirit,
21:11the Holy Catholic Church,
21:13the communion of saints,
21:15the forgiveness of sins,
21:17the resurrection of the body,
21:20and the life everlasting.
21:22Amen.
21:28The Lord be with you,
21:30and with your spirit.
21:34Let us pray.
21:38Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:41Christ, have mercy upon us.
21:46Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:52Our Father,
21:54who is in heaven,
21:56holy is your name.
21:58May your kingdom come.
22:01May your will be done on earth,
22:03as it is in heaven.
22:05Give us this day our daily bread.
22:08Forgive us our trespasses,
22:10as we forgive those who trespass against us.
22:15Lead us not into temptation,
22:17but deliver us from evil.
22:20For yours is the kingdom,
22:23the power and the glory,
22:25for ever and ever.
22:27Amen.
22:32O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
22:36and grant us your salvation.
22:41Protect and guide those in authority over us,
22:46and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
22:52Endue your ministers with righteousness,
22:55and make your chosen people joyful.
23:00O Lord, save your people,
23:04and bless your inheritance.
23:08Give peace in our time, O Lord,
23:12because there is none other who fights for us,
23:15but only you, O God.
23:19O God, make clean our hearts within us,
23:23and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
23:34Let us pray.
23:37O God, for as much as without you,
23:41we are not able to please you,
23:44mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit
23:46may in all things direct and rule our hearts,
23:51through Jesus Christ our Lord.
23:54Amen.
24:03O God, from whom all holy desires,
24:07all good counsels,
24:09and all just works proceed,
24:11give to your servants that peace
24:13which the world cannot give,
24:16that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
24:20and also that, by you,
24:23we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
24:27may pass our time in rest and quietness,
24:31through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
24:34Amen.
24:40Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
24:43and by your great mercy defend us all
24:46from perils and dangers of this night.
24:50For the love of your only Son,
24:52our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
24:55Amen.
24:59Almighty God,
25:00who has given us grace at this time with one accord
25:03to make our common supplications to you,
25:07and promises that when two or three
25:09are gathered together in your name,
25:12you will grant their requests.
25:15Fulfill now, O Lord,
25:18the desires and petitions of your servants,
25:21as may be most beneficial for them,
25:24granting us in this world
25:26knowledge of your truth
25:28and in the world to come
25:30life everlasting.
25:33Amen.
25:36May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
25:38and the love of God
25:40and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
25:42be with us all evermore.
25:45Amen.
