00:00Well it is another huge moment in German politics, a major breakthrough for the AFD party amid this
00:08total collapse in support for the German government. Friedrich Merz, the Conservative
00:13Chancellor, recently saw his satisfaction rating slipping to just 10%, the lowest recorded for any
00:22Chancellor since this survey began back in 1997. 88% of those in Germany dissatisfied with the German
00:30Chancellor Friedrich Merz. And in terms of the national polls, I mean you can see here what is
00:37happening. The Conservatives, the Union there collapsing to 17.5% now with the AFD way out in
00:44front on over 30% and the Social Democrats, the SPD in government with the Conservatives at joint third
00:51now with the Greens. As to what happened in the Saxony-Arnholt election, the AFD won there,
00:59they won with 44% of the vote, they won 39 seats out of 83, so just short of a
01:06majority. As to whether
01:07they could get a majority or not, well that is going to depend on the five seats won, the five
01:14elected from the BSW left-wing Conservative Party, whether or not they will back the
01:21AFD candidate. But what we have seen today is the BSW leader talking about ending the firewall. So
01:29that's the firewall with any other party cooperating or supporting the AFD in any way, saying there that
01:35the strongest faction in a state parliament should also provide the state parliament president and that
01:41parliamentary normality must no longer be suspended for the AFD. So what has now happened today in terms
01:49of the president of the Saxony-Arnholt state parliament? You can see here the AFD's candidate
01:56elected with 48 votes. Now why that's so interesting is because the AFD and BSW parties together only have
02:0444 votes. So that would mean that there were more votes for the AFD candidate than even when you factor
02:12in the BSW members voting for this candidate as well. So that shows you now the extent to which
02:20even with five abstentions there as well, that German politics appears to be shifting and shifting very
