00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office and some of you may have seen the northern
00:07lights last night, even across southern parts of the UK.
00:11And that's all thanks down to the Earth-directed CMEs coming out of the sun at the moment.
00:18There is the chance again tonight of seeing the aurora, perhaps a weaker signal than last night, so perhaps Northern
00:24Ireland, Scotland, best chance of seeing some views.
00:27But it's as we move into tomorrow night, so Monday night into Tuesday morning, the chances increases further, perhaps even
00:34across central southern parts with a camera phone and long exposure.
00:38You may be able to see the northern lights, but it is all dependent on the cloud cover.
00:43So let's look at the weather details.
00:45We do have weather systems moving in from the Atlantic over the next few days to give areas of clouds,
00:51stronger winds, outbreaks of rain as well.
00:52We may see a brief ridge of high pressure pushing through by the middle of the week ahead of further
00:57weather systems moving in from the Atlantic.
01:00But there are signs towards next weekend high pressure may build once more across the country.
01:05So for this evening, some clear skies across northern parts of the UK, particularly Scotland, northern England.
01:12So there could be some aurora viewing possible ahead of cloud thickening from the west.
01:16So by the early hours, western parts of the UK will be cloudy, outbreaks of rain and drizzle, some brisk
01:23winds around the coast too.
01:24Some of the rain may turn a little heavy at times across parts of Wales down into Devon, Cornwall, Somerset.
01:30But clearer skies holding on across the east.
01:32So quite a temperature contrast tonight.
01:34Western areas staying in double figures, 14, 15 degrees to start Monday morning.
01:39A chilly start in the east.
01:41Temperatures in single figures here.
01:43But some glimmers of sunshine to start the day.
01:45But it won't last long before this cloud pushes in from the west.
01:49So for most of us through the day on Monday, it will be a cloudy day.
01:53Outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing north and eastwards across the country.
01:56Perhaps later on into the afternoon, some more persistent rain across northern Ireland into western Scotland.
02:02Some gusty winds at times too.
02:04Even though it will be largely cloudy, I'm hopeful there'll be a few brighter breaks developing at times.
02:09Maybe, maybe even one or two glimmers of sunshine.
02:11So in central, southern parts of Wales into the west country could see these as well as northern parts of
02:17Scotland.
02:18And Moray Firth, they're seeing some glimmers of sunshine.
02:20But the wind's coming in from the south.
02:23So a warm direction.
02:25And temperatures well above average for the time of year.
02:27The high teens for most of us locally 20, 21 Celsius.
02:31In any brighter breaks that do develop.
02:33But for most, it will be rather grey.
02:35Some heavy rain pushing across Scotland through the evening time.
02:40And then another band developing across Norman Island, western Scotland into the early hours.
02:44Some squally rain on this as it pushes eastwards.
02:47Some gusty winds as well as it moves into southern Scotland, western fringes of England and Wales.
02:53Showers following on behind it.
02:54And then ahead of it, rather cloudy conditions.
02:58And some real mild air across England and Wales.
03:01Temperatures overnight staying nearer to where they should be during the day.
03:0514 to 17 Celsius.
03:07Something a little fresher coming in behind the weather front across the northwest.
03:11So a wet and windy start across eastern Scotland down into northern England, western fringes of Wales and down into
03:18the west country.
03:18This band of rain slowly pushing eastwards through the morning could be heavy and squally.
03:23Behind it, much sunnier skies developing.
03:25So by the afternoon, much of the country will see a mixture of sunny spells and showers.
03:30Showers most frequent in the north and the west.
03:32Some of them could be on the heavy side accompanied by blustery winds.
03:36And something a little fresher moving in here.
03:38So temperatures 16 degrees across Northern Ireland, for example.
03:41But still on the warm side across England and Wales.
03:44Perhaps an early max around 20, 21 Celsius in the southeast before a little fresher air moves in here.
03:51And then into the evening time, it will be a quiet end to the day as high pressure then starts
03:55to build in.
03:56Which should hopefully lead to a fine day for most of us on Wednesday with sunny spells.
04:00Ahead of further wet and windy weather moving in for Thursday.
04:04More details on this can be found on our website and our social media channels.
