00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
03:24that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our
03:32Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
04:39as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
04:43world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 37
04:59Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed.
05:03Do not envy evildoers,
05:06for they will quickly dry up like grass,
05:09and wither away like plants.
05:12Trust in the Lord, and do what is right.
05:15Settle in the land, and maintain your integrity.
05:18Then you will take delight in the Lord,
05:21and he will answer your prayers.
05:24Commit your future to the Lord,
05:26trust in him,
05:27and he will act on your behalf.
05:31He will vindicate you in broad delight,
05:33and publicly defend your just cause.
05:37Wait patiently for the Lord,
05:39wait confidently for him.
05:41Do not fret of the apparent success of a sinner,
05:45a man who carries out wicked schemes.
05:48Do not be angry and frustrated.
05:51Do not fret.
05:52That only leads to trouble.
05:55Wicked men will be wiped out,
05:57but those who rely on the Lord
05:59are the ones who will possess the land.
06:03Evil men will soon disappear.
06:05He will stare at the spot where they once were,
06:08but they will be gone.
06:11But the oppressed will possess the land,
06:14and enjoy great prosperity.
06:18Evil men plot against the godly,
06:20and viciously attack them.
06:23The Lord laughs in disgust at them,
06:26for he knows that their day is coming.
06:30Evil men draw their swords,
06:32and prepare their bows,
06:33to bring down the oppressed and needy,
06:35and to slaughter those who are godly.
06:39Their swords will pierce their own hearts,
06:43and their bows will be broken.
06:46The little bit that the godly man owns
06:48is better than the wealth of many evil men,
06:52for evil men will lose their power,
06:54but the Lord sustains the godly.
06:58The Lord watches over the innocent day by day,
07:02and they possess a permanent inheritance.
07:06They will not be ashamed when hard times come.
07:09When famine comes,
07:10they will have enough to eat.
07:13But evil men will die.
07:16The Lord's enemies will be incinerated.
07:19They will go up in smoke.
07:22Evil men borrow,
07:24but they do not repay their debt.
07:26But the godly show compassion,
07:28and are generous.
07:31Surely those favored by the Lord
07:33will possess the land,
07:35but those rejected by him
07:36will be wiped out.
07:39The Lord grants success
07:41to the one whose behavior
07:43he finds commendable.
07:46Even if he trips,
07:48he will not fall headlong,
07:49for the Lord holds his hand.
07:53I was once young,
07:55now I am old.
07:57I have never seen a godly man abandoned,
07:59or his children forced to search for food.
08:04All day long he shows compassion,
08:06and lends to others,
08:08and his children are blessed.
08:12Turn away from evil.
08:14Do what is right.
08:16Then you will enjoy lasting security.
08:20For the Lord promotes justice,
08:22but never abandons his faithful followers.
08:26They are permanently secure,
08:29but the children of evil men
08:31are wiped out.
08:34The godly will possess the land,
08:36and will dwell in it permanently.
08:40The godly speak wise words,
08:42and promote justice.
08:45The law of their god controls their thinking,
08:47and their feet do not slip.
08:51Evil men set an ambush for the godly,
08:53and try to kill them.
08:55But the Lord does not surrender the godly,
08:57nor allow them to be condemned
09:00in a court of law.
09:03Rely on the Lord.
09:05Obey his commands.
09:07Then he will permit you to possess the land,
09:10and he will see the demise of evil people.
09:14I have seen ruthless evil men
09:16growing in influence,
09:18like a green tree grows in its native soil.
09:22But then one passes by,
09:24and suddenly they have disappeared.
09:27I looked for them,
09:28but they could not be found.
09:31Take note of the one who has integrity.
09:34Observe the upright,
09:35for the one who promotes peace has a future.
09:40Sinful rebels are totally destroyed.
09:43Evil men have no future.
09:45But the Lord delivers the godly.
09:48He protects them in times of trouble.
09:51The Lord helps them and rescues them.
09:54He rescues them from evil men,
09:56and delivers them.
09:58For they seek his protection.
10:02Glory be to the Father,
10:04and to the Son,
10:05and to the Holy Spirit,
10:07as it was in the beginning,
10:09is now,
10:09and ever shall be,
10:11world without end.
10:13Amen.
10:22The Book of Ecclesiasticus,
10:24Chapter 14
10:28Blessed is the man
10:29that has not slipped with his mouth,
10:32and is not pricked with sorrow for sin.
10:36Blessed is he
10:37whose soul does not condemn him,
10:40who has not fallen from his hope.
10:44Riches are not comely
10:45for a niggard.
10:47And what should an envious man do with money?
10:51He that gathers by taking from his own soul,
10:54gathers for others.
10:55Others will revel in his goods.
10:59He that is evil to himself,
11:01to whom will he be good?
11:03He will not rejoice in his possessions.
11:07There is none more evil
11:08than he who envies himself.
11:10And this is the recompense
11:12of his wickedness.
11:14For even if he does good,
11:15he does it in forgetfulness.
11:17And at the last,
11:19he shows forth his wickedness.
11:23Evil is he that envies with his eye,
11:26turning away the face,
11:27and despising the souls of men.
11:31A covetous man
11:32is not satisfied with his portion,
11:35and wicked injustice dries up his soul.
11:39An evil eye begrudges bread.
11:42He is miserly at his table,
11:44my son,
11:45according as you have.
11:46Do well to yourself.
11:50And bring offerings to the Lord,
11:52worthily.
11:54Remembering that death will not wait,
11:56that the covenant of the grave
11:58is not showed to you.
12:01Do well to your friend before you die,
12:04and according to your ability,
12:05stretch out your hand and give to him.
12:09Do not defraud yourself of a good day.
12:13Do not let the portion of a good desire
12:15pass you by.
12:19Shall you not leave your neighbours to another?
12:23Are your toils to be divided by lot?
12:27Give and take and deceive your soul,
12:30for there is no seeking of luxury in the grave.
12:34For all flesh will wax old like a garment.
12:38For the covenant from the beginning
12:40is that you shall die the death.
12:44As of the leaves flourishing on a thick tree,
12:47some it sheds and some it makes to grow,
12:50so also the generations of flesh and blood.
12:54One comes to an end,
12:56and another is born.
12:58Even work rots and falls away,
13:02the worker of which shall depart with it.
13:06Blessed is the man that shall meditate on wisdom,
13:09that shall discourse by his understanding.
13:14This is the word of the Lord.
13:18Thanks be to God.
13:29Mary said,
13:31My soul exalts the Lord,
13:33and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
13:37because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
13:44For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
13:48because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
13:52and holy is his name.
13:55From generation to generation
13:57he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:01He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:04He has scattered those whose pride wells up
14:07from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:11He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
14:14and has lifted up those of lowly position.
14:17He has filled the hungry with good things,
14:20and has sent the rich away empty.
14:24He has helped his servant Israel,
14:26remembering his mercy,
14:28as he promised to our ancestors,
14:31to Abraham,
14:33and to his descendants forever.
14:36Glory be to the Father,
14:38and to the Son,
14:39and to the Holy Spirit,
14:41as it was in the beginning,
14:43is now,
14:44and ever shall be,
14:46world without end.
14:48Amen.
14:56The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
14:58chapters 23 and 24.
15:04There was a man named Joseph,
15:06who was a member of the council,
15:08a good and righteous man.
15:11He had not consented to their plan and action.
15:15He was from the Judean town of Arimathea,
15:18and was looking forward to the kingdom of God.
15:22He went to Pilate,
15:23and asked for the body of Jesus.
15:26Then he took it down,
15:28wrapped it in a linen cloth,
15:29and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock,
15:32where no one had as yet been buried.
15:36It was the day of preparation,
15:38and the Sabbath was about to begin.
15:41The women who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee,
15:44followed.
15:45They saw the tomb,
15:46and how his body was laid in it.
15:49Then they returned,
15:50and prepared spices and perfumes.
15:54On the Sabbath,
15:55they rested according to the commandment.
15:59Now on the first day of the week,
16:01at early dawn,
16:02the women went down to the tomb,
16:04taking the spices they had prepared.
16:07They found that the stone
16:09had been rolled away from the tomb,
16:11but when they went in,
16:12they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
16:16While they were wondering about this,
16:19suddenly two men stood beside them
16:20in dazzling attire.
16:22The women were terribly frightened,
16:24and bowed their faces to the ground.
16:27But the men said to them,
16:29Why do you look for the living among the dead?
16:32He is not here,
16:34but has been raised.
16:35Remember how he told you,
16:37while he was still in Galilee,
16:39that the Son of Man must be delivered
16:41into the hands of sinful men,
16:44be crucified,
16:45and on the third day rise again.
16:49Then the women remembered his words,
16:51and when they returned from the tomb,
16:54they told all these things to the eleven,
16:56and to all the rest.
17:00Now it was Mary Magdalene,
17:02Joanna,
17:03Mary the mother of James,
17:05and the other women,
17:06who told these things to the apostles.
17:09But these words seemed like pure nonsense to them,
17:13and they did not believe them.
17:15But Peter got up and ran to the tomb.
17:19He bent down,
17:20and saw only the strips of linen cloth.
17:24Then he went home,
17:26wondering what had happened.
17:30This is the word of the Lord.
17:33Thanks be to God.
17:35Amen.
17:45Now according to your word,
17:47Sovereign Lord,
17:48permit your servant to depart in peace.
17:51For my eyes have seen your salvation,
17:54that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
17:59a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
18:02and for glory to your people Israel.
18:07Glory be to the Father,
18:09and to the Son,
18:10and to the Holy Spirit,
18:11as it was in the beginning,
18:13is now and ever shall be,
18:15world without end.
18:17Amen.
18:22I believe in God the Father Almighty,
18:26maker of heaven and earth,
18:28and in Jesus Christ,
18:30his only Son, our Lord,
18:32who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
18:35born of the Virgin Mary,
18:37suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
18:40was crucified,
18:42dead,
18:43and buried.
18:44He descended into hell.
18:46On the third day,
18:47he rose again from the dead.
18:50He ascended into heaven,
18:52and is sitting at the right hand of God,
18:54the Father Almighty.
18:57From there,
18:57he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
19:01I believe in the Holy Spirit,
19:03the Holy Catholic Church,
19:05the communion of saints,
19:07the forgiveness of sins,
19:09the resurrection of the body,
19:12and the life everlasting.
19:14Amen.
19:20The Lord be with you,
19:23and with your spirit.
19:27Let us pray.
19:30Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:34Christ, have mercy upon us.
19:38Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:45Our Father, who is in heaven,
19:48holy is your name.
19:51May your kingdom come.
19:52May your will be done on earth
19:55as it is in heaven.
19:58Give us this day our daily bread.
20:01Forgive us our trespasses,
20:02as we forgive those who trespass against us.
20:07Lead us not into temptation,
20:09but deliver us from evil.
20:12For yours is the kingdom,
20:15the power and the glory,
20:17for ever and ever.
20:20Amen.
20:25O Lord, show your mercy upon us
20:28and grant us your salvation.
20:33Protect and guide those in authority over us
20:38and mercifully hear us
20:40when we call upon you.
20:44Endue your ministers with righteousness
20:46and make your chosen people joyful.
20:52O Lord, save your people
20:55and bless your inheritance.
21:01Give peace in our time, O Lord,
21:04because there is none other who fights for us
21:07but only you, O God.
21:11O God, make clean our hearts within us
21:16and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
21:26Let us pray.
21:28O God, our refuge and strength,
21:32who is the author of all godliness,
21:35be ready, we beseech you,
21:37to hear the devout prayers of your church.
21:40Grant that those things which we ask faithfully
21:43we may obtain effectually.
21:47Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
21:50Amen.
21:59O God, from whom all holy desires,
22:03all good counsels and all just works proceed,
22:07give to your servants that peace
22:09which the world cannot give,
22:12that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
22:16and also that, by you,
22:19we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
22:23may pass our time in rest and quietness.
22:26Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
22:31Amen.
22:36Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
22:39and by your great mercy defend us all
22:42from perils and dangers of this night.
22:46For the love of your only Son,
22:48our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
22:51Amen.
22:54Almighty God,
22:56who has given us grace at this time with one accord
22:59to make our common supplications to you,
23:03and promises that when two or three
23:05are gathered together in your name,
23:07you will grant their requests.
23:11Fulfill now, O Lord,
23:13the desires and petitions of your servants,
23:17as may be most beneficial for them,
23:21granting us in this world
23:22knowledge of your truth,
23:24and in the world to come,
23:26life everlasting.
23:29Amen.
23:32With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
23:34and the love of God,
23:36and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
23:38be with us all evermore.
23:41Amen.
