00:23Let us pray.
00:48Let us pray.
00:54And that all sinful passion and affection being destroyed within me, I may be renewed in perfect innocence of life.
01:26Let us pray.
01:34Praise and honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who, out of your affection for me, granted me to
01:40be born in the true Christian faith.
01:42Let us pray.
01:53Let us pray.
01:54May my heart find no relish except in and through you.
01:59May you alone possess my innermost soul.
02:03May I exceedingly hunger for you, the bread of heaven, and thirst for you, the fountain of life.
02:09So that this life's exile ended, I may deserve to be satisfied with the joys of your eternal perfection.
02:19Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who, up until this time, has preserved and delivered me from
02:26countless dangers of soul and body,
02:28even when I abused you, even when I abused your gifts, not deserting me, illuminate my heart, I beseech you,
02:38with the brightness of your grace,
02:40the truly perceiving your goodness, the truly perceiving your goodness to me, and my own ingratitude toward you.
02:47I may be moaned myself, I may be moaned myself, I may be hateful in my own sight, but I
02:54may please you, my creator and my only redeemer in all things.
03:01Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who, when I lie immersed in the most loathsome vices,
03:08and was leading a most ungodly life, in your long-suffering, bore with me for such a long time, and
03:16brought me to repentance.
03:18Grant, that my acceptable contrition and holy works, I may expiate the stains of my past sin,
03:26and that from now on I may lead a life of purity, and love you above all things, with most
03:33burning love.
03:36Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who, when I was on the brink of the very precipice,
03:42and just within the jaws of hell, did not permit me to perish, but called me, though deaf, and trying
03:49to run from you to the way of salvation.
03:54Grant, that from now on, I may follow after you with humble devotion,
03:59and with a joyful heart, correspond to your holy inspirations,
04:04with, from my heart, farewell to all things, and may cleave inseparably to you alone.
04:14Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
04:18who always directed me, the vilest of sinners,
04:21has protected me, has looked upon me with the eyes of mercy,
04:25and still so fondly supports and cherishes me with your goodness,
04:30despite my daily transgressions, as if forgetful of all others,
04:36you cared for me alone.
04:39Grant, that I also may love you most ardently,
04:43leaving all transitory things for your sake,
04:46and may think of you alone,
04:48and may with a ready mind and in all places,
04:51follow and perform your holy will.
04:55Amen.
04:59O Lord, open our lips,
05:02and our mouths shall sing your praise.
05:12O be joyful in the Lord,
05:16O be glad,
05:18turn the Lord with gladness,
05:22and come in all his present river strong,
05:28He is sure that the Lord needs God,
05:35He is He that has made us and lost me ourselves,
05:40We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
05:46O do Your way to His streets and tree,
05:53and lead to the Holy Shower with praise,
05:59He can call on to Him and speak to all of His name.
06:06For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, and is to lift your life from generation to generation.
06:30Glory be to the Father, and to the Father, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning,
06:45is now and ever shall be, world without every draw.
06:58Amen.
07:11Amen.

08:57Lord, Lord, and the way of the righteous, and the way of the applauded, shall perish.
09:10Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
09:21As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, Lord, and the way of heaven. Amen.
09:49The Gospel according to St. John, chapter 17.
10:17The Gospel according to St. John, chapter 17.
10:23They know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.
10:29I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
10:34Now, Father, glorify me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created.
10:43I have revealed your name to the men you gave me out of the world.
10:49They belong to you, and you gave them to me.
10:52They have obeyed your word.
10:56Now, they understand that everything you have given me comes from you,
11:01because I have given them the words you have given me.
11:07They have accepted them and really understand that I came from you, and they believe that you sent me.
11:17I am praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given to me, because they
11:28belong to you.
11:31Everything I have belongs to you, and everything you have belongs to me, and I have been glorified by them.
11:38I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you, Holy
11:44Father.
11:45Keep them safe in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, just as we
11:53are one.
11:55When I was with them, I kept them safe, and watched over them in your name that you have given
12:01me.
12:02Not one of them was lost, except the one destined for destruction, so that the scripture would be fulfilled.
12:10But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world, so that they may
12:17experience my joy completed in themselves.
12:22I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world,
12:29just as I do not belong to the world.
12:33I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the
12:39evil one.
12:40They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
12:47Set them apart in the truth, your word is truth, just as you sent me into the world, so I
12:54sent them into the world.
12:57I set myself apart on their behalf, so that they too may be truly set apart.
13:05I am not praying only on their behalf, but also on behalf of all those who believe in me through
13:12their testimony, that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I am in you.
13:21I pray that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.
13:27The glory you gave to me, I have given to them, that they may be one, just as we are
13:33one, I in them, and you in me, that they may be completely one, so that the world will know
13:42that you sent me, and that you have loved them just as you have loved me.
13:49Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may see
13:55my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the creation of the world.
14:02Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men know that you have
14:08sent me.
14:10I made known your name to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you
14:17have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them.
14:24This is the word of the Lord.
14:27Thanks be to God.
14:33This prayer of Christ is in some ways the most precious relic of the past.
14:42We have here the words which Christ addressed to God in the critical hour of his life.
14:48The words in which he uttered the deepest feelings and thoughts of his spirit, clarified, concentrated by the prospect of
14:57his death.
14:59What a revelation it would be to us, had we Christ's prayers from his boywood onwards.
15:06What a liturgy and prompt of devotion, if we knew what he had desired from his earliest of years.
15:12What he had feared, what he had prayed against, what he had never ceased to hope for.
15:19The things that one by one dropped out of his prayers.
15:24The things that gradually grew into them, the persons he commended to the Father, and the manner of his commendation.
15:33His prayers for his mother, for John, for Peter, for Lazarus, and even for Judas.
15:42But here we have a prayer which, if it does not do so abundantly, satisfiably pardonable curiosity, so at least
15:53it brings us a sacred presence.
15:56For even among the prayers of Christ, this sounds by itself, as that in which he gathered up the retrospect
16:03of all his past, and surveyed the future of his church.
16:08In which, as if already dying, he solemnly presented to the Father himself, his work, his people.
16:20Recognizing the grandeur of the occasion, we may be disposed to agree that Melanchthonio, who, when giving his last lecture
16:30shortly before his death, said,
16:32There is no voice which has ever been heard, either in heaven or in death, more exalted, more holy, more
16:40fruitful, more sublime,
16:42than this prayer offered up by the Son of God himself.
16:52The prayer was the natural conclusion to the conversation which Jesus and his disciples had engaged for the previous chapters.
17:03And as the elevens saw him lifting his eyes to heaven, as if the Father he addressed were visible,
17:10they no doubt felt a security which had not been imparted by all his promises.
17:19And when after they spoke of Christ's intercession, this instance of it must always have risen in its memory,
17:27and been formed in all their ideas of that part of the Redeemer's work.
17:34It has always been believed that those who have loved and cared for us while on earth continue to do
17:40so when, through death,
17:42they have passed nearer to the source of love and goodness.
17:46This lively interest in us is supposed to continue because it formed so material an element in their life here
17:56below.
17:57It was impossible that those who heard our Lord this awfully commending them to the Father should ever forget this
18:06earnest consideration of their state,
18:09nor ever come to fancy that they were forgotten.
18:15Beginning with prayer for himself, our Lord passes at the sixth verse into prayer for his disciples.
18:21And by the twentieth verse, the prayer expands still further and more widely embraces the world,
18:29all those who will come to believe in him later.
18:36First of all, Jesus prayed for himself at his prayer,
18:41Father, glorify your Son, glorify me with your own self, with the glory which I had with you before the
18:48world was.
18:50The work for which he came into the world was done.
18:54I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
18:58There remains no more reason why he should stay longer on earth.
19:04The hour is come, the hour for closing his earthly career and opening to him a new period and sphere.
19:14He neither wishes nor needs a prolongation of his life.
19:19He has found time enough in less than half of three score years and ten to do all he can
19:27on earth.
19:29It is character, not time, that we need to do our work.
19:33To make a deep and abiding impression, it is not longer life we need, but intensity.
19:40Jesus did not find himself cramped, limited or too soon hurried out of life.
19:48He viewed death as the suitable, timely step and took it with self-command
19:54and in order to pass to something better than his earthly life.
20:01How immeasurably beneath this level is the vaunted equanimity of the thinker who says
20:10death can be no evil because it is universal.
20:17How immeasurably beneath it is the habit of most of us.
20:23Which of us can stand in that clear air on that high point which separates life from what is to
20:30come
20:30and say, I have finished the work you gave me to do.
20:35A broken column is the fit monument for our life.
20:39Unfinished, frustrated and useless.
20:43Wasted energy.
20:45Ill-repaired blunders.
20:47Unfulfilled purpose.
20:48Fruitless years.
20:50Much that is positively evil.
20:53Much that was done mechanically and carelessly.
20:56And for the day.
20:59Plans ill-conceived.
21:01And even worse executed.
21:04Imperfect ideals of life.
21:07Imperfectly realised.
21:09Pursuits dictated by uneducated tastes.
21:13Unchased whims.
21:15Accidental circumstances.
21:17Such is the retrospect which most of us have as we look back over life.
21:25Very few men even recognise the reality of life as part of an eternal order.
21:33And of the few who do so, still few seriously and persistently aim at fitting in their life as a
21:41solid part of that order.
21:46Before we know whether we have finished the work given to us, we must know what the work is in
21:51the first place.
21:52At the outset of his account of Christ's work, John gives us his concept of it.
21:59The word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
22:02And we beheld the glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father.
22:09This work was now accomplished and Jesus went on to say, I have glorified you on the earth.
22:18I have manifested your name to the men you gave me out of the world.
22:26We may all add our humble and responsive Amen to this account of his finished work.
22:34John has carried us through scenes in which Jesus manifested the glory of the Father and showed the full meaning
22:42of that name.
22:43Displaying the Father's love in his self-sacrificing interest in men.
22:49The Father's holiness and supremacy in his devoted filial obedience.
22:55Never again can men separate the idea of the true God from the life of Jesus Christ.
23:03It is in that life we come to know God through that life that we find his glory shining.
23:14This many a man has felt is the true divine glory.
23:21This God yearning over his lost and wretched children.
23:24Coming down and sharing in their wretchedness to win them to himself and blessedness.
23:32This is the God for us.
23:34This alone is the glory as we bow before and down to be infinitely worthy of trust and adoration.
23:43All mightiness supplying itself to the necessities and fears of the weak.
23:49Perfect purity winning to itself the impure and the outcast.
23:55Love showing itself to be divine by its patience, humility and its absolute sacrifice.
24:03It is Christ who has found entrance for those concepts of God once for all in the human mind.
24:11It is to Christ we owe it that we know a God at all that we can entirely love and
24:17increasingly worship.
24:19With the most assured truth he could say.
24:23I have finished the work you gave me.
24:25I have glorified you on the earth.
24:27I have shown your name to the men you gave me out of the world.
24:34But Christ recognises a work which ran parallel to this.
24:39A work which continually resulted from his manifestation of the Father.
24:46By this, by showing the Father, he gave eternal life to those who accepted and believed this revelation.
24:55The power to reveal the Father which Christ had received, he had not on his own account.
25:02But that he might give eternal life to men.
25:06For this is life eternal, that he, they, all of us, might know you, the only true God, and Jesus
25:16Christ, whom you have sent.
25:21Eternal life is not merely life indefinitely prolonged.
25:25It is, rather, life under new conditions and fed from different sources.
25:31It can be entered upon now, but a full understanding of it is now impossible.
25:38The grub might as well try to understand the life of the butterfly, or the chick in the shell, the
25:45life of the bird.
25:47To know what Christ revealed, this is the birth to life eternal.
25:54To know that love and holiness are this governing power in conformity with all things, are carried forward to their
26:03end.
26:03To know what God is, that he is a Father who cannot leave us, his children, on earth behind,
26:10and pass on to his own great works and purposes in the rest of the universe.
26:17But he stoops to our littleness and delays that he might carry every one of us with him.
26:25This is life eternal.
26:27This it is that subdues the human heart, cleansing it from pride, self-seeking and lust,
26:35and inclines it to bow before the only holy and loving God.
26:40And to choose him and life in him.
26:43This it is that turns from the brief joys and imperfect meanings of time,
26:49and gives it a home in eternity,
26:52that severs it in disposition and in destiny from the changing, passing world,
26:59and gives it an eternal inheritance as God's child.
27:05To as many as believed Christ, to them he gave power to become the Son of God.
27:12To believe him and to accept the God he reveals is to become a Son of God and is to
27:20enter into life eternal.
27:23To be conquered by the divine love shown to us.
27:27To feel that not only in worldly ambition, or in any self-seeking, but only in devotion,
27:34to interest that are spiritual and general, is the true life for us.
27:39To yield ourselves to the Spirit of Christ, and seek to be animated and possessed by that Spirit.
27:47This is to throw in our lot with God, to be satisfied in him, to have eternal life.
27:57This earthly work of Christ then, being finished,
28:02he asked the Father to glorify him with his own self,
28:06with the glory he had with him before the world was.
28:11It seems, perhaps vain, to deny that this petition implies on Christ's part,
28:17a consciousness of a life which he had before.
28:22His mind turns from the present, from his earthly life, to eternity,
28:28to those regions beyond time, which no created intelligence can follow,
28:34and yet in which God alone exists.
28:38And in that divine solitude, he claims a place for himself.
28:43If he merely meant that from eternity God had conceived of him,
28:48the ideal man, and if the existence and glory he speaks of
28:52were merely an existence in God's mind, but unreal,
28:56his words do not convey his meaning.
28:59The glory he prayed for now was a conscious living glory.
29:03He did not want to become extinct, or be absorbed into the divine being.
29:09He meant to continue, and did continue in the actual, personal, living existence.
29:15This was the glory he prayed for,
29:18and this, therefore, must also have been the glory he had before the world was.
29:24It was the glory of which it is proper to say,
29:27I had it, and not merely God conceived it.
29:31It was enjoyed by Christ before the world was,
29:35and not only in the mind of God.
29:41What that glory was, no one can tell.
29:44We know it was a glory, not of position only, but of character,
29:48a glory which disposed and prepared him to sympathise with suffering,
29:52and to give himself to the actual needs of men.
29:56From that glory he came to share with men in their humiliation,
30:00to expose himself to their scorn and abuse,
30:04to win them to eternal life,
30:07and to some true participation in his glory.
30:12But Christ's removal from the earthly and visible life
30:16involved a great change in the state of his disciples.
30:21Up to this point, he had been present with them every day,
30:25always showing them spiritual glory,
30:28attracting them to it in his own person.
30:31So long as they saw God's glory in so attractive and friendly a form,
30:36it was not difficult for them to resist the world's temptations.
30:41While I was with them in the world,
30:44I kept them in your name,
30:46that is, by revealing the Father to them.
30:49But now I am no more in the world,
30:52but they are in the world.
30:53I come to you, Holy Father,
30:55keep through your own name those who you have given to me.
31:00Sanctify them through your truth.
31:03Your word is truth.
31:06Christ had been the word incarnate,
31:08the utterance of God to men.
31:11In him, men recognised what God is and what God wills.
31:16This made them holy,
31:18this marvellous revelation of God and his love for men,
31:21drew men to him.
31:23They felt how divine and overcoming a love this was.
31:28They adored the name Father,
31:30of which Christ the Son made them known.
31:33They felt themselves close to God and claimed by him.
31:38spurned by the world.
31:40They recognised in themselves that which they could understand
31:45and be appealed to by such a love as God's.
31:49Their glory was to be children of God.
31:54But now this visible image,
31:57this incarnate word is to be withdrawn
32:00and Christ commits to the Father those whom he leaves behind.
32:05Holy Father,
32:08you whose holiness moves you to keep men separate to yourself from every evil contagion.
32:16Keep through your own name those whom you have given me.
32:21It is still by the recognition of God in Christ that we are to be kept from evil
32:26by contemplating and penetrating this great demonstration of God to us.
32:32by listening humbly and patiently to this incarnate word,
32:38knowledge of the God whose world is all existence,
32:45knowledge of him in whom we live
32:48and whose holiness is silently judging and ruling all things,
32:52knowledge that he who rules all
32:55and who is above all
32:57gives himself to us
32:59with a love that thinks no sacrifice too great.
33:05It is this knowledge of the truth
33:07that saves us from the world.
33:10It is the knowledge of those abiding realities which Christ revealed,
33:15of those great and loving purposes of God to man,
33:19of the certainty of their fulfilment
33:21which recalls us to holiness and to God.
33:26There is reality here.
33:28All else is empty and delusion.
33:33But these realities are obscured
33:36and thrust aside
33:38by a thousand pretentious frivolities
33:41which claim our more immediate attention and interest.
33:45We are in the world
33:46and day by day the world insists
33:49that we consider it the great reality.
33:52Christ had conquered it and was leaving it.
33:56Why then did he not take with him
33:58all he had won to himself out of the world?
34:02He did not do so
34:04because they had a work to accomplish
34:06which could only be accomplished in the world.
34:10As he had consecrated himself
34:12to the work of making known the Father,
34:15so must they consecrate themselves
34:17to the same work.
34:19As Christ in his own person and life
34:22had brought clear before their minds
34:24the presence of the Father,
34:26so must they by their person and life
34:29show the world the existence and grace of God.
34:33They must make permanent and universal
34:36the revelation he had brought
34:38that all the world might believe
34:41he was the true representative of God.
34:44Christ had lit them
34:46and with their light
34:47they were to kindle all men
34:49until the world was full of light.
34:53A share of this work is given
34:55to each and every one of us.
34:58We are permitted to mediate
34:59between God and men
35:01to carry to some the knowledge
35:03which gives life eternal.
35:05It is made possible to us
35:07to be benefactors in the highest kind.
35:11To give to this man and that a God.
35:14To parents it is made possible
35:17to fill the opening and hungry mind
35:19of their child with a sense of God
35:21which will awe, restrain and courage
35:24and gladden him all his life through.
35:28To relieve the wants of today
35:30to refresh any human spirit by kindness
35:33and to forward the interests
35:35of any struggler in life is much.
35:39But it is little compared
35:40to the joy and solid utility
35:42of disclosing to a human soul
35:45that which he at last recognizes as divine
35:49before which at last
35:52he bows in spontaneous adoration
35:54and absolute trust.
35:56To the man who has long questioned
35:59whether there is a God
36:00who has doubted
36:01whether there is any morally perfect being
36:04any spirit existent
36:06greater and purer than man
36:08you have but to show Christ
36:11and through his unconquerable love
36:14and untemptable holiness
36:17revealed to him a true God.
36:23But it was not by telling men about God
36:26that Christ convinced men
36:28that somewhere there existed
36:30a holy God who cared for them
36:32but by showing God's holiness and love
36:36present to them in his own person.
36:39So that our words may fail
36:41to accomplish much
36:42if our life does not reveal
36:44a presence
36:45men cannot but see as divine.
36:49It was by being one
36:51with the Father
36:51Christ revealed him.
36:53It was the Father's will
36:55his life showed.
36:57The extension of this
36:58to the whole world of men
37:00is the utmost of Christ's desire.
37:04All will be accomplished
37:06when all men are one
37:08even as Christ and the Father
37:11are already one.
37:15This text is often cited
37:17by those who seek to promote
37:19the union of the church
37:21but we think it belongs
37:23to a very different category
37:24and much higher region.
37:27That all churches
37:28should be under similar government
37:30should adopt the same creed
37:32and use the same forms of worship
37:34even if possible
37:36is not supremely desirable.
37:40But the real unity of sentiment
37:42toward Christ
37:43and the zeal to promote his will
37:46is supremely desirable.
37:49Christ's will is all-embracing
37:51the purpose of God
37:53as wide as the universe
37:55and can be fulfilled only
37:57by an endless variety
37:58of disposition,
38:00functions,
38:01organisations and work.
38:04We must expect
38:06that as time goes on
38:07men
38:08so far from being contracted
38:10into a narrow
38:11and monotonous uniformity
38:13will exhibit
38:14increasing diversities
38:16of thought and method
38:17and will become
38:18more and more differentiated
38:20in outward respect.
38:22If the infinitely
38:23comprehensive purpose
38:25of God
38:26is to be fulfilled
38:27it must be so.
38:29Not only
38:30but if these purposes
38:32are to be fulfilled
38:33all intelligent agents
38:35must be at one
38:36with God
38:37and must be so profoundly
38:39in sympathy
38:40with God's mind
38:41as revealed in Christ
38:43that
38:44however different
38:46one man's work
38:47or methods
38:47may be from another
38:48God's will
38:50will be carried out
38:52alike by both.
38:56If this will
38:57can be more
38:58freely carried out
39:00by separate
39:02churches
39:03then outward separation
39:05is not
39:06a calamity.
39:08Only when
39:09outward separation
39:10leads one church
39:11to despise
39:12rival
39:13or hate another
39:15does this become
39:16a calamity.
39:17but whether churches
39:19abide separately
39:20or are incorporated
39:23in outward unity.
39:25The desirable thing
39:27is that they are
39:28one in Christ
39:29they have the same
39:30eagerness in service.
39:33They are but
39:34one set
39:35of different
39:36regiments
39:36of an army
39:37fighting a common
39:39foe
39:40and supporting
39:40one another
39:41diverse outwardly
39:43in method
39:44function
39:45like artillery
39:47infantry
39:48cavalry
39:48or engineers
39:50or maybe
39:51even army
39:52navy
39:53or air force
39:54of the same
39:54country
39:55but they fight
39:56for one flag
39:57and one cause
39:58and their very
39:59diversity
40:00more vividly
40:01exhibits
40:01their real
40:02practical
40:03unity.
40:07But why
40:08should the
40:08ultimate
40:09desire of Christ
40:10the highest
40:11point to which
40:12the Saviour's
40:12wishes for
40:13mankind
40:14reach?
40:17Because Spirit
40:18is that which
40:19rules
40:19if we are one
40:21with God
40:21in Spirit
40:22the future
40:23is ours.
40:24This mighty
40:25universe in which
40:26we find ourselves
40:27today
40:28apparently governed
40:30by forces
40:30compared to which
40:32the most powerful
40:33human engines
40:34are feeble.
40:36Forces
40:37which keep
40:38this earth
40:39and orbs
40:40immeasurably
40:41larger
40:42suspended
40:43in space
40:44this universe
40:46is controlled
40:47by Spirit
40:48designed
40:49for spiritual
40:50ends
40:50for ends
40:52of the highest
40:53kind
40:55and which
40:56concern
40:56conscious
40:57and moral
40:58beings.
41:01It is
41:02as yet
41:03only by the
41:04smallest of
41:05glimpses
41:06we can see
41:06the happiness
41:07of those
41:08who are one
41:09with God
41:10it is only
41:11by inadequate
41:12comparisons
41:13with
41:13and mental
41:14effort
41:15we can attain
41:16to even
41:17a rudimentary
41:18concept of the
41:19future that waits
41:20for those who are
41:21in this way
41:22eternally blessed.
41:24of them
41:25may well
41:26Paul say
41:27all things
41:28are yours
41:28for you
41:29are Christ's
41:31and Christ
41:32is God's.
41:37It is
41:37for Christ
41:38all things
41:39are governed
41:40by God
41:40to be in him
41:42is to be above
41:43the reach
41:43of catastrophe
41:45to be
41:46as Christ
41:46himself
41:47expressed it
41:48beside himself
41:49on the throne
41:50from which
41:51all things
41:52are ruled
41:54having been
41:55attracted
41:55by his
41:56character
41:56by what
41:57he is
41:58and does
41:58and having
41:59sought here
42:00on earth
42:00to promote
42:01his will
42:02we shall
42:03be his
42:04agents
42:06hereafter
42:09but in a
42:09life in which
42:10spiritual glory
42:12irradiates
42:12everything
42:13and which
42:14an ecstasy
42:15and strength
42:16which this
42:17frail body
42:18could not
42:19contain
42:19will be the
42:20normal and
42:21constant
42:22index of
42:22life of
42:23God
42:23in us
42:26to do
42:27good
42:27to utter
42:28by word
42:28deed
42:30the love
42:31and power
42:32that are in
42:32us
42:33is the
42:34permanent
42:34joy of
42:35man
42:36with what
42:37alacrity
42:38does the
42:39surgeon
42:39approach
42:40the operation
42:40that he
42:41knows
42:42will be
42:42successful
42:43with what
42:44pleasure
42:45does the
42:45painter
42:45put on
42:46canvas
42:46the idea
42:47which fills
42:48his mind
42:49and which
42:50he knows
42:50will appeal
42:51to everyone
42:51who sees
42:52it
42:53whoever
42:54learns to
42:54do good
42:55by sharing
42:56God's
42:56spirit of
42:57communicated
42:57goodness
42:58will find
42:59everlasting
43:00joy in
43:01sharing what
43:02he has
43:02and can
43:04he will
43:05do so
43:06not with
43:07the feeble
43:07and hesitating
43:08mind and
43:09hand which
43:10here make
43:11almost every
43:11good action
43:12painful
43:13but with a
43:14spontaneity and
43:15sense of
43:16power which
43:17will be
43:17wholly
43:17pleasurable
43:18he will
43:19know that
43:20being one
43:21with God
43:22he can
43:22do good
43:22can accomplish
43:24and effect
43:24some solid
43:25and needy
43:26work
43:27slowly
43:28slowly
43:29very slowly
43:30indeed
43:31is this
43:32arrived at
43:33but time
43:34is of no
43:35consequence
43:35in the work
43:36that is
43:37eternal
43:38so long
43:39as we are
43:40sure
43:40we do not
43:41idly
43:42mispresent
43:43opportunities
43:44of learning
43:45so long
43:46only
43:47as we
43:47know
43:48that our
43:48faces are
43:49turned in
43:49the right
43:50direction
43:50and that
43:51we have
43:51within us
43:52a right
43:53spirit
43:55if there
43:56lingers in
43:57our mind
43:57a feeling
43:58that the
43:58end
43:59Christ
43:59proposes
44:00and utters
44:01as his
44:01last prayer
44:02for men
44:02does not
44:03draw us
44:04with
44:04irresistible
44:05force
44:06it might
44:07be enough
44:07to say
44:08to our
44:09own heart
44:09that this
44:10is our
44:11weakness
44:11that certainly
44:13in this
44:14prayer we
44:14do touch
44:15the very
44:16central
44:16significance
44:17of human
44:17life
44:18that however
44:19dimly
44:19human words
44:20may be
44:21able to
44:21convey
44:21thoughts
44:22regarding
44:23eternity
44:23we have
44:25here in
44:25Christ's
44:26own words
44:27sufficient
44:28indication
44:28of the
44:29one abiding
44:30end and
44:31aim of
44:32any wisely
44:33directed
44:33human life
44:35whatever
44:36whatever the
44:36future of
44:37man may be
44:38whatever joy
44:39life is
44:39to become
44:40in whatever
44:41far-reaching
44:42and prolonged
44:43experiences
44:44we are to
44:45learn the
44:45fruitfulness
44:46and efficacy
44:47of God's
44:48love
44:48whatever new
44:50sources and
44:51conditions of
44:51happiness
44:52we may in
44:53future worlds
44:54be introduced
44:55to
44:56whatever
44:57higher energies
44:59richer
44:59affections
45:00are to be
45:01opened
45:01in us
45:02all this
45:04can only
45:05be by
45:05our
45:07becoming
45:07one with
45:08God
45:08in whose
45:10will the
45:10future
45:11now lies
45:13it may
45:14also be
45:15said
45:15if we
45:16think
45:16this
45:17the prayer
45:17of one
45:18who was
45:19not in
45:19the full
45:20current
45:21of human
45:21life
45:22and had
45:23little
45:23understanding
45:24of men's
45:25ways
45:25that this
45:26prayer is
45:27fulfilled
45:27in very
45:28many
45:28who are
45:29deeply
45:29involved
45:30and
45:30busily
45:31occupied
45:31in this
45:31world
45:32they give
45:33their mind
45:34to their
45:34employment
45:34but their
45:35heart
45:36goes to
45:36higher
45:36aims
45:37and more
45:38enduring
45:38results
45:40to do
45:41good
45:41is
45:42to them
45:44of greater
45:44consequence
45:45than to
45:46make money
45:48to see
45:49the number
45:50of Christ's
45:50sincere
45:51followers
45:51increasing
45:52is to
45:53them
45:53a truer

45:55their own
45:55business

45:57in the
45:58midst
45:58of their

45:59prosperity
46:00they
46:00recognise
46:01there is
46:01something
46:02far better
46:02than
46:03worldly
46:03prosperity
46:04and that
46:05is
