00:00Praise him.
00:01Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:0695.7 The Game, breaking news.
00:10All righty.
00:12It's time for the crossover brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:14Rest easy.
00:15We've got you covered, bayalarm.com.
00:17We've got breaking news.
00:18The San Francisco 49ers have just acquired DeForest Buckner from Indy
00:24for a fourth-round pick in 2027.
00:27Let's welcome in Willard and Dibbs with the news.
00:31Hey, Jets.
00:32Let's freaking go.
00:33Take that Seattle.
00:34Let's welcome in DeForest Buckner.
00:36And I cannot wait until they are lined up across from each other.
00:40In four weeks.
00:41Former Colt against former Colt.
00:43Like, let's square off.
00:44I didn't even think of that.
00:46It's going to be on.
00:48But they needed that.
00:49Game on.
00:50Right.
00:50They needed that, and they need actually more.
00:52And I don't think that either team is done.
00:55And not that the Rams are out of it.
00:57I mean, they might be.
00:58But I think that the Rams and other teams, it's going to be like a crazy trade deadline.
01:03So the Colts are footballer us right now, huh?
01:05Oh, for sure.
01:06Yeah.
01:06Once they lost to the Vikings, they signaled, I think, to the world that here we go.
01:11And it's a matter of what people are willing to give up in contractual situations.
01:15They may not be done.
01:16Jonathan Taylor, Josh Downs are other names.
01:21Those are huge.
01:21Jonathan Taylor's a beast.
01:22So, you know, we'll see.
01:24But what a fun bop-bop from the Seahawks and Niners today.
01:30So you reunite with Debo.
01:31I was like, I don't know.
01:33That went well up to him getting hurt.
01:35Same with Greenlaw.
01:37And you got to think.
01:38Defoe.
01:38The way Defoe was playing.
01:40Man, this is a match made in heaven.
01:42Again.
01:43Well, it's also a clear-cut sign that the 49ers think they can win a Super Bowl.
01:48No doubt.
01:48I also don't think they're done.
01:49Oh, man.
01:50Well, you got more than two weeks until the deadline.
01:53I know people are thinking about the wide receiver position.
01:55That's still TBD for me.
01:56Because, A, I don't know who's available.
01:58So much coming back.
01:59The Niners feel like they're acquiring their whole core back here pretty soon.
02:02But I was wondering about sort of a distinction between interior defensive line and edge.
02:09So, like, how about Mack also?
02:12I thought you were going to sweat in Arizona.
02:14Well, that's fine, too.
02:15But division, you notice that they usually send people to the other conference.
02:20So, that's normal.
02:22Like Indy did.
02:23Yeah, exactly.
02:24So, I, you know, within the division makes it that much tougher.
02:29But I would love to see, because are we really going to trust that Nick Bosa is just going to
02:34come back here and then play the whole second half of the season?
02:36But if he does, you can imagine now.
02:39He got help.
02:39Big help.
02:40This is a big old defensive line.
02:42It's big.
02:43Especially with the young guys they got in there, too, now.
02:45Right.
02:46Who are playing well.
02:46Well, I mean, they were playing well.
02:48And then last week, we didn't really hear from them.
02:50But the one thing that we know about the Niners is they want to go eight or nine deep on
02:54the D line.
02:55So, yeah, now you bring in DeForest Buckner, and he won't be a every snap guy, because nobody is.
03:01But you bring in somebody who knows what to do, and he knows how to play.
03:06I mean, this is a big boy.
03:09This is a banger.
03:09I mean, there's no doubt about it.
03:11It's funny, because, you know, obviously after Nelson went to Seattle, but even in the, you know, week or two
03:16leading up,
03:18oh, the Niners, you know, they're going to go after it.
03:20You always think, well, it can't be that easy.
03:23You know, you can't just assume they're going to get bucked.
03:26Trades are hard.
03:27Apparently not in the NFL.
03:28But Colts kept losing, though.
03:30I mean, the other thing is a fourth-round pick?
03:34That sounds relatively...
03:34To go for it?
03:36That sounds very logical to me.
03:38Totally.
03:39And, again, it's because he's expiring, and that's why I feel like Khalil Mack is gettable as well.
03:43We'll share something with you guys.
03:45So, about seven minutes ago, Dibs and I are in the other room, and this news got reported.
03:53I don't know if he actually came in first or second place or whatever, but Jordan Schultz, who's our friend
03:59in a big NFL newsbreaker,
04:00we could tell earlier today that things were percolating.
04:03So, we booked him, but he's on the East Coast, so he's like,
04:07can we lay it down before your show?
04:09Lay it down.
04:10He said, no problem.
04:10So, we go in there 10 minutes ago.
04:12He starts the conversation off by going,
04:15I'm absolutely expecting the Niners to be aggressive.
04:18I think that they got a real good shot to get DeForest Buckner.
04:21He asked us, he goes, would the fan base love this?
04:24We're like, the fan base would love this.
04:27He goes, okay.
04:27Because I think there's a real good chance they get him.
04:30And then we bebop around the league and wide receiver and this, that, and the other.
04:34And right before we ask our last question, he goes, hang on a second, guys.
04:38I just got a text, and the 49ers have acquired DeForest Buckner.
04:44And then he goes, hang on, don't ask your question.
04:46I need to tweet this.
04:47And then he goes, and he tweeted this.
04:48He goes, and it's out.
04:50And then, okay, do you guys want to talk?
04:52And then he goes, actually, I kind of got to go.
04:54And I'm like, we do, too.
04:57But your guys are happy, though.
04:58We're all happy.
04:59The interview is dead.
05:01But there's like, I think later we'll bring back what it sounded like.
05:06No, that's awesome.
05:06In real time.
05:07It broke while we were sitting there talking to him.
05:10They did that.
05:10John did that.
05:11John didn't sit on his, man.
05:13And they need it.
05:14They need it.
05:15And, I mean, I don't think that they're done, to Mark's point, like, they shouldn't be done.
05:19And I don't think that they are actually going to be done.
05:22And I was doing a whole thing with Jordan about, you know, Garrett Wilson and maybe
05:26Brian Thomas Jr., BTJ.
05:29You know, he's going through the whole thing.
05:30He's like, I'm not sure if those are the guys, you know, who might pop off.
05:34And so we were talking about, you know, Buckner and D-line and whatever, and also receivers.
05:39And so, yeah, the deadline is in, what, 16 days?
05:43Yeah, so a long way to go.
05:45But Wilson's got big money, though, right?
05:47He'd do big money.
05:48Right.
05:48And I don't think that that actually is the fit.
05:50And honestly, you know, Mark and I have talked about it ad nauseum about, do the Niners need
05:55a receiver?
05:56Well, they do, but they're going to get one, two, three, maybe four back.
06:00And Stringlin's coming back.
06:01Right.
06:02I'll let it.
06:02I got no interest in Garrett Wilson whatsoever.
06:05That doesn't make any sense for the 49ers at all.
06:08Brian Thomas Jr., maybe.
06:09You know, I know people were talking about Juwan Jennings a while ago.
06:13Something like that.
06:14But it's, you want to fortify the room.
06:17I'm not trying to, like, completely drop a bomb on the room.
06:21You set an edge, maybe.
06:22It's a good room.
06:23And I don't think that somebody who's making hundreds of millions of dollars for the next
06:28four years makes any sense at all for the 49ers.
06:31I mean, if the 49ers think they have a good sense on when their receiving core is coming
06:37back, they probably won't go after a receiver.
06:40If the guys are coming back when kind of they initially expected them to.
06:45I expect Debo to be back either against the Raiders or shortly after.
06:51Hope, you know, Mike Evans, as of right now, I feel like, you know, he's going to be playing
06:55by week nine or ten.
06:57Who else am I missing?
06:59Robinson.
06:59Robinson should be back.
07:01So, you know, you can't pass a lot.
07:05Now, if a couple setbacks or an important setback to a guy that, you know, you're counting
07:11on, then maybe.
07:12But they're going to get, they should get their whole complement of receivers back.
07:16Yeah, and the one name that he threw out, and I guess I can kind of spoil the interview
07:20because we probably won't play it now, but he talked about Juwan Jennings, who, you know,
07:24Juwan is falling out of favor in Minnesota, and he might be a guy who actually fits.
07:28And so, yeah, you brought back Debo and Dre, and now DeForest Buckner.
07:33I don't know what Eric Armstead's doing, if he's available, but, I mean, go ahead and
07:37bring them all back.
07:38Where's Joe Montana?
07:39Let's get him to back up.
07:40Solomon Thomas.
07:41Is Joey Bosa done playing football?
07:43Like, don't even.
07:43It sure sounds like it.
07:44Okay.
07:45It sure sounds like it.
07:46I mean, that's what Nick sort of indicated the last time they asked him about it.
07:49Oh, yeah.
07:49Is he playing golf?
07:50So, like, yeah, I don't.
07:52You need the original Bosa back first.
07:54Yeah, like, let's get some people who are producing right now, you know what I mean?
07:58But, no, this is a beautiful thing, and I love that the bye week is right now because
08:03for, I mean, Buckner, they go, oh, he was in the system, but the system's a little different
08:09now.
08:09This is Raheem Morris' system.
08:10So, you use the bye week to get someone in here and give them a full week and a half
08:16to ramp up and get ready for that game against the Raiders, and this Niner roster could look
08:21very, very different when we see it again.
08:24What I think's kind of interesting is the similarity of Lendeborg to Forrest Buckner.
08:33So, the 49ers get to Forrest Buckner, and now you've got to be on cloud nine thinking,
08:40now this team could win a Super Bowl, but even if they don't, the organization is addressing
08:46our team in a way where the goal is a Super Bowl, and so the expectations just got higher
08:53for the Niners, and similar for the Warriors, like, they might have found a player that can
08:58kind of help resurrect them, not obviously put them over the top for a championship, but
09:04I mean, it is pretty amazing the way, in the last two or three days, and now I'll throw
09:09the Niners in there, where things change in sports.
09:13I mean, the Warriors' future looks so much better than it did a week ago.
09:17It's unreal.
09:18Even go to the Valkyries where they're down 2-1, and I thought, and I even said this in
09:24our meeting last week, I was like, you know, forget the whole thing about a parade and
09:27like, the parade route, they're in trouble, like, the Dream, kind of have their number.
09:32Angel Reese was doing her thing.
09:33Yes, and I thought the Valks were in real trouble, and then game four, gutsy, you pull
09:38it out, and then yesterday was like, okay, Valks, they kind of handled that thing start
09:42to finish, and now you're up 3-2, and you've got a matinee closeout, so yeah, everything
09:47changes very quickly.
09:48I'm with you, and I thought, your guys' conversations today have been fascinating.
09:54To me, you're stuck somewhere between, well, that was one game, except for Friaxel, it's
10:00not.
10:00He's looked interesting in all of the games, so the Warriors won one game, but I don't
10:06think you guys are overstating it.
10:07Like, the whole organization changed.
10:10Man.
10:11The whole organization changed.
10:13You're thinking about who they are.
10:16You said at one point today, Gu, that what they could do with Steph might remind us of
10:20what the Niners are doing with McCaffrey.
10:22Oh, man.
10:22I love that.
10:23Like, if we could, and that's why also, Stiney, I love that you were like, stop with the whole
10:28like, now let's try to squeeze the Steph orange again one more time before he retires.
10:33No.
10:34It's not about that anymore, I don't think.
10:36It's about both of them together, and Steph can, with each passing day, take a lesser role.
10:43Yaxo, with each passing day, can take a bigger role, and if I'm one of these dudes that's
10:47not on the Warriors yet, how much more attractive do you look as a destination?
10:52If this guy is going to play basketball like this, he took Jokic and Gordon to school.
11:00Don't lose that.
11:01Tapped out.
11:02The warrior killer.
11:04Aaron Gordon.
11:05He's got a body like Gordon.
11:07That was intoxicating.
11:08When Steph did something he's never done before in his whole career, he had 20 points on a
11:14night where he did not miss a shot.
11:16He was 8 of 8.
11:17He was 3 of 3 from 3, 5 of 5 from the line, and so he was able to do
11:23that and also kind
11:24of be on the sideline and laughing with a towel on his head because Yaxo was doing the thing.
11:30You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM, and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station.
11:35Always live on the free Odyssey app and now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk studios.
11:40Yeah, I just look at it as though, and I don't want to get bogged down into, well, we still
11:43have Curry, and I get it.
11:45I understand that, but like in the course of a week, essentially, you're allowed to
11:52think, what if Yaxo's the best player on the team by the end of the year?
11:57Like he might be the best player on the team, and I get it, you know, it's tiny, don't disrespect
12:01Steph, but you know, if he puts a season together, and you know, Steph does his thing, but you
12:07know, his load managed, I mean, we got a ball game now with a guy after Steph, and that's
12:15all we've been talking about for five years, and he's got the first crack at it, and I
12:22think everybody loves what they see early.
12:25Dibs, I told him for the first time real quick here, the first time in a long time since
12:30Wiseman, Jordan Poole, Kaminga, and all that emotion that I had, all it was from myself
12:35and I believe fans was the want, the wherewithal to have another guy not named Steph Curry to
12:41where you can lay your eyes on and get your dinner ready.
12:44And Steph was on the bench, and I'm just watching Yaxo like, oh, it's happening, right?
12:48But now again, it's early, four games, but that feeling of knowing there's a Robin to the
12:54Batman, who might eventually be Batman, that's a special feeling.
12:58It's special, but I mean, for me, it's the watchability, and I'm thinking about the game
13:02off the bye for the Niners when you get DeForest Buckner back on the field, and so the watchability
13:09it's already been off the charts because the Niners are good, they're 6-1, but now when
13:13they take the field on defense for the first time, and if Bosa's out there, great, but
13:18you're going to look at DeForest Buckner on the defensive line, and for me, it's going
13:22to be kind of like it was in the opener, right, Mark, where you had Dre Greenlaw back, and
13:27it's like, oh my God, the band is back together.
13:29I think we will move toward a conversation about whether or not this is, from a likability
13:35standpoint, maybe one of the easiest watches, easiest things to root for in a long time
13:41in Bay Area sports.
13:42I know Steph Curry is right up there as well, but like, this 49er team, being that they haven't
13:47won a Super Bowl in the number of years that they haven't, and now not only playing really
13:52well, but veterans, veterans who, three of them now feel like homecoming guys, a locker
13:59room that is just, I don't know, even from the social media standpoint, the way that they've
14:04sort of connected with the fan base, this is some pretty epic stuff, and so to loop him
14:10back into it is great.
14:11I want to throw this out there as well, like the fourth round pick, there is, I mean, there's
14:16a whole complicated formula to this that I'm reading about.
14:18There's a decent chance the 49ers get a comp pick off of this if he leaves in free agency
14:24after the year.
14:26So.
14:26But would you want him to do?
14:28No.
14:28No, that's not my point.
14:29My point is, this is free.
14:31It could be.
14:32They just got DeForest Buckner.
14:34Essentially, you get some.
14:35So he comes, he plays well, and then he leaves and gets whatever deal he gets.
14:40You could get a fourth or a fifth back.
14:41Right.
14:41So, like, it turns out to be basically a rental, which it might be.
14:46And so, yeah, it's a free swing at it.
14:49And, you know, Quentin Nelson, I would love to have both of them.
14:52And I think Mark's right about the Niners.
14:53They're not totally done.
14:55I do think that, I mean, offensive line, Connor Colby's had a couple of, like, tough games
15:00in a row.
15:01So you would have, I guess, thought about getting Quentin Nelson.
15:04But really get one more defensive lineman.
15:07Sure.
15:07And then, you know, shore this thing up.
15:10Khalil Mack?
15:11Sure.
15:12Why not?
15:13Sure.
15:13Although, I mean, can you dream for a second about, and again, got to be blessed with health,
15:18but, like, is your starting D-line, your front four, Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, Oso Odigizua,
15:26Keon White.
15:27That's pretty damn fearsome.
15:29And it's better than what you have now.
15:31And I should add in Mikel Williams, who I know is more of a run stuffer.
15:35They can use him inside, outside.
15:37Grayson Halton.
15:38Like, they've got the young guys that are rotating in, and you feel better about if
15:44there's an injury also.
15:46So, I don't know if, you know, if you acquire another defensive lineman, are you overloading
15:51the room?
15:52I don't know.
15:53But I also don't know how much I trust Nick Bosa's legs.
15:56So, I get the whole sort of equation of the whole thing.
16:00But this is shaping up to be an unbelievable defensive line.
16:04That's the way this group likes to build their defense.
16:07It's what won Seattle the Super Bowl.
16:09So, this is a huge day.
16:13I'll tell you the one thing that they've done.
16:15And you made a reference to it about the locker room.
16:19But then you said something about the fans.
16:20And I wasn't sure if you meant the fans have taken to this team.
16:23But if you look at the names that they've assembled, this is a grown-up team.
16:33There's no nitwits on it.
16:35There are guys who are clearly driven to win a Super Bowl.
16:40Listen to these names.
16:42Like, just think of them.
16:43Forget how good they are.
16:44They're just professional.
16:46Evans, McCaffrey, Purdy, Trent Williams, Kittle, Greenlaw, Juszczyk, Warner, Debo Samuel, Buckner.
16:55Like, these are, these guys are winners.
16:58You know what I mean?
16:59Like, they, they, they're in that locker room knowing that they could win a Super Bowl.
17:05And I think they, they have no interest in individual accolades.
17:10They have no interest in numbers.
17:13McCaffrey, I know, he likes to touch it all the time.
17:15He has no, he doesn't care that it's, he's down to 12 carries a game.
17:19That's not what it's about when you look at these names.
17:22Who on this list that I just named cares about anything other than if they can win a Super Bowl?
17:28I mean, Mike Evans is the only one who's tasted this before out of the entire group.
17:32All of them realize that their chances are starting to run out and they're getting late
17:38and they've all played together to a certain degree and seem to really, really click with one another.
17:43And then also, what does that, what does that do to the young guys in the room?
17:47When you have this many leaders, adults, as you would, would put it.
17:52Exactly.
17:52Like what, you have to fall in line if you're a young player in that locker room.
17:57To this point, by the way, George Kittle just sent out a tweet.
18:02Uh, Defoe, the boys are back and tweeted out a picture of him, Buckner, and Juice in their Pro Bowl
18:11jerseys
18:12a number of years ago when they all went together.
18:15So, yeah.
18:16That's got to be what, five, six years, seven years?
18:18More.
18:18Yeah.
18:19Like, I mean, Defoe's been gone for a minute now.
18:22Yeah, man.
18:22Like, this was...
18:23Steel balling.
18:24Well, and that's the thing about, like, the Pro Bowl, and I know the Pro Bowl's a joke,
18:28but if you make the Pro Bowl, it means you're actually really good at it, and you've got,
18:32you know, DeForest Buckner...
18:33That's clean.
18:34...Pro Bowler, and Kittle, and Juszczyk, and so many other guys on your team who've been to
18:38the Pro Bowl, Mike Evans, Hall of Famer, etc.
18:40So now you bring a team of, like Stiney was saying, adults and grown men, but they're
18:45people who have actually achieved and accomplished, and now that's what you're going with.
18:50How stoked is Defoe?
18:51And I hate there's a bye, but they love that it's a bye to reacclimate him, so I get it.
18:56It's perfect.
18:57This team, look out Las Vegas, and look out Kirk Cousins.
19:01This team that is being reactivated for the game in a week and a half is a squad.
19:07And you're now, you know, again, we're rooting for Bosa, but you're not Bosa or Bust if there's
19:11a setback.
19:12Now I feel like you've got activity even with Bosa.
19:15Obviously, you want them, but just in case, that little Geico.
19:18Right, and you had the two pressures last game against Atlanta, and, you know, maybe it was
19:23because your rookies are all hitting the rookie wall, whatever, heading into the bye.
19:28Whatever the reason was, two pressures against Michael Penix, that's not going to get it done
19:33against, you know, Seattle and the Rams and whoever else you face.
19:36Caleb Williams in the playoffs, maybe.
19:38You've got to be better.
19:39Yeah, I think there's also something.
19:41I know that Raheem Morris wasn't here when Buckner was here, but Kyle was.
19:47And I do think there's something to maybe a bigger...
19:51When Debo left here, it wasn't on great terms.
19:55I shouldn't say that.
19:56I think his feelings were hurt a little bit.
19:59When Greenlaw left, it was for whatever reason.
20:03The point is, is that these guys are excited to come back, which tells you something about
20:08the 49ers and probably Kyle Shanahan, that they know that this thing's for real out here.
20:17I can tell you for a fact that these two sides, when they parted, wanted to stay together.
20:22Defoe wanted to stay.
20:23The Niners wanted to re-sign Buckner.
20:26But it just got down to a million or two million bucks, where the two sides could not, like,
20:32they were like, just something fair.
20:34Can we find...
20:35And they could not get on the same page.
20:37And if you had a wheel, you might have a ring.
20:39Nobody would want to hear that.
20:40I'm just saying.
20:41For sure, you can...
20:42I mean, who knows?
20:43But again, and I've likened Defoe's departure to Kenneth Walker's departure with the Seahawks this year.
20:49Same kind of thing.
20:51Like, it's a player you love, and you want to keep him, but you can't pay everyone.
20:56And you think, we can go in the first round this year and replace that guy.
21:01Seahawks have tried to do it with Darian Price.
21:03He's got more fumbles than games.
21:05And DeForest Buckner left, and the Niners tried to replace him with Javon Kinlaw, who did not work.
21:10Well, he said in front of his locker real quick that he wasn't happy Defoe.
21:14Two weeks in a row.
21:14I felt like he was like, Niners, come get me.
21:17I'm tired of it.
21:17Come get me, man.
21:18Somebody come get me.
21:19In-like organization versus the Niners, and I think the Niners, even though, you know,
21:23Jed York, whatever in East Ohio, whatever happened, that has nothing to do with, you know,
21:28John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan.
21:29They go about things in a certain way where they go out there and they try to do winning things.
21:35Interesting.
21:36Interesting.
21:37What's interesting?
21:39Yeah.
21:39Dibs' hat.
21:41Yeah.
21:41Cuckoo.
21:42Do you not listen to the show?
21:43I didn't have it spelled that way.
21:45I had it C-U-C-U-S-H.
21:50Cuckoo-sh.
21:51That's all.
21:52Okay.
21:53That's a little racy.
21:54That's crazy.
21:55Yeah.
21:55He didn't want to talk about his hat, unlike you're not able to give us all the specifics
21:59on that.
22:00I can tell you about my hat.
22:01It's a Denver Nuggets hat.
22:02Not a Denver Nuggets hat.
22:04It's not a Denver Nuggets.
22:16My hat is brought to you by Fremont Bank.
22:20Here for you.
22:20Here for good.
22:21I love you.
22:21And it's all about fade the dibber.
22:23And if you want to fade the dibber.
22:24Nice win last night.
22:26Nice lot of wins, by the way.
22:28Your boy is, Grandy, am I what, like 14-4 over my last 18?
22:33I don't know.
22:33We're too busy back here.
22:35You're a scary at the screen.
22:36What do you mean you don't know?
22:37You nailed another one last night.
22:38We got a lot of stuff going on back here, Dibs.
22:40I think what he said yesterday was over your last 17, you were 14-3.
22:47Right.
22:47So now we're 15-3.
22:48That makes you 15-3.
22:50Yeah.
22:50That's a Denver.
22:50It's great.
22:51And you know where he is?
22:53Go ahead.
22:54You know where you are, 15-3.
22:56You have another 45 seconds.
22:58That was clunky.
22:59It was awkward.
23:00The bag is on.
23:01The jacket's on.
23:02And I would have probably hit my calci combo had it not been for my partner who duped me
23:08into, you know what, Tampa Bay.
23:09Oh, you're going to blame me on that.
23:11I'm not blaming you.
23:12I get three out of four.
23:13I also took the Nuggets against the Warriors, so I'm not blaming you.
23:18I had the Nuggets cuckoo.
23:19I appreciate the Rays popping out in the fourth inning.
23:23So anyway.
23:24Well, then I doubled down in real time on over 12 and a half runs thinking, oh, you know
23:30what?
23:31Milwaukee's going to throw some like, they're going to throw like a position player.
23:35That was smart until you love.
23:36Then they threw Brandon Woodruff, and what an emotional moment for him.
23:41The young man coming back off an injury.
23:44Bet they stayed on team, though.
23:46Whatever.
23:46Just go home.
23:47All right.
23:48Tible said it.
23:49I'm just going home.
23:50Okay.
23:50He's staying.
23:51We'll see you for that long show you got on Thursday.
23:54Good day.
23:54Good day.
