00:01One of these undiscovered fashion designers is about to go from rags to riches.
00:07And their winning fashions will go on sale in stores the very next day.
00:12Fashion Star, tonight after the biggest loser on NBC.
00:23Hi, this is Connie Wang from Refinery29, and we're with Christy Kurtz, our photo editor and resident DIY expert.
00:30One of spring's most coveted accessories trends were graphic bags that we saw at Martin, Mark by Mark, and Parenza
00:36Schooler.
00:37Today we're going to show you how to make your very own.
00:39For this project, you need just a few things.
00:41An inexpensive bag with a smooth surface, vinyl paint, a small dish and a spoon, a circular stencil, a ruler,
00:49a small paintbrush, and a fine tip sharpie.
00:51So with the bag that we found, it has these two circles already on it.
00:54So we're going to use that as a starting point for our circles and dots on the bag.
00:58The first thing you want to do is measure the distance between these two rings.
01:02That way you know the exact middle that you can have a line of dots go down the bag.
01:07So you're going to start from the ring, and we're going to make a small dot, and that's going to
01:12be the top of our first circle.
01:14With your circle stencil, you can use whatever size dots you want.
01:17We decided to use the one in an eighth of an inch because that was closest to the size of
01:21these rings on the bag.
01:22You want to line up the circle stencil directly underneath the ring on the bag, and draw it in with
01:27your fine tip sharpie.
01:30Ta-da!
01:32To make the next dot, just measure two more inches down, make a little mark, and that's where you're going
01:37to put the next dot.
01:38So now that we have two rows of dots, we're going to find where the dots go in the very
01:42center.
01:42Now this is about seven inches, so half of seven inches is three and a half, and that's right here.
01:48So that's going to be the center of your next dot.
01:53So you're going to do the same thing to make the outer row of dots.
01:56So we're going to measure three and a half, it gets from one to one, so three and a half
02:00more inches.
02:02We're at seven.
02:05So now that you have all of the dots drawn on, it's time to start painting.
02:10Now we're going to use a little dish to dilute our acrylic paint for vinyl.
02:14So we'll just put a scoop of this, and a little bit of that.
02:21Same one.
02:23That's perfect.
02:26Now that the paint's diluted, you want to start painting in the dots.
02:29Start in the middle and work your way out so you don't accidentally put your hand in the paint.
02:33It's okay if the paint starts to separate on the vinyl.
02:36That's why we specifically chose an acrylic paint for vinyl.
02:39Just let it separate, and then we'll go back and do a second coat on the dots so they're solid.
02:45So just wait ten minutes, the paint dries super, super quick, and you basically are ready to go.
02:50It doesn't need a tonic coat or anything like that because it is waterproof.
02:54So, ta-da, and here you have it, your graphic polka dotted bag.
03:04I have a space suit ready for you.
03:10I have a space suit, yeah, yeah.
03:13I have a space suit, yeah.
03:14I have a space suit, yeah, yeah.
03:18See you next time.
03:18I was requiring a hot air with you.
03:19I have a space suit on the mat.
03:19I have a space suit.
03:19I have a space suit.
03:19Go on!
