00:00Hi, my name is Christina, and welcome to Hair Me Out.
00:03I want to dye my hair pink.
00:05I have dyed my hair before, but it was only ever, like, box dyes of, like, reddish brown
00:10or black.
00:13I actually really love my current hair.
00:15I love how thick my hair is.
00:17I actually really like its natural color.
00:19My hair inspiration was from this one character from an older anime called Revolutionary Girl
00:26Utena.
00:26The main character has pink hair, and I put the wig on, and I was, like, obsessed with
00:30that color, like, the specific pink color.
00:33I've always really liked dressing up in costumes, and, like, I had, like, a little costume box
00:37as a kid.
00:38I, like, learned about anime, and then I learned about conventions, and then I learned that
00:42people would dress up at conventions, and I was just instantly just obsessed with the
00:46idea of it.
00:47There is actually a model that has pink hair that I really like.
00:50Fernanda Lee made me realize that pink hair doesn't have to look, like, super quirky.
00:54It can look, like, high fashion and cool and very stylish.
00:58I'm excited to see what people think about it, and I'm excited to just see it for myself.
01:02Now let's head over to the salon to see the transformation.
01:05Okay, Christina, so just so you know how this process works, I'm going to be applying the
01:09lightener to the ends first and then to the roots.
01:12It's going to get quite light quite quickly at the closer to your scalp because of the heat
01:17from your head.
01:18And then we wait.
01:19I'm so excited.
01:20I know.
01:21I'm always like, get excited.
01:22And then I'm like, but just sit still for a while now, you know?
01:33One of the reasons I've always hesitated dyeing my hair pink is because it would take away
01:38one of the things that makes me fit in with my culture.
01:42And I've always been, like, a white-passing Latina, and so I feel like if I take away
01:46that dark hair, then that takes away one of the things that makes me feel like I look
01:51Latina.
01:52I'm hoping that dyeing my hair pink will still make me feel, like, confident and awesome
01:56and won't take away any part of my identity, but you never know.
02:02I'm a little nervous just because I don't know what upkeep goes into it, and I've also heard
02:08that having dark hair and dyeing it a light color can be really challenging.
02:11I guess my only fear is that it's going to come out, like, a different pink than I've
02:15always envisioned or, like, maybe my skin tone doesn't go super well with it.
02:49I want to do it.
02:49I want to dye my hair now because I feel like I've been putting it off for a really long
02:52time and I don't want to get to a point where I regret not trying it out sooner.
03:12I also have a lot of friends that have really encouraged me in getting my hair dyed pink,
03:16so nothing's really holding me back at this point.
03:24I feel great.
03:34I feel very anime.
03:37I love it.
03:38Excellent.
03:39It feels about it was what I expected it to feel.
03:41I guess because I've worn so many wigs and stuff, it's just interesting that this is what my hair's
03:45going to look like all the time now.
03:47The new length is nice, too.
03:49I didn't expect to get a little trim.
03:51That's a good, a nice little refresh.
03:56Now that it's lighter, I feel like I can experiment with different colors in the future as well.
04:00But for right now, I'm definitely going to enjoy the pink.
04:12I feel so much more confident.
04:14I didn't realize I would like it this much.
04:17I was really worried about it taking away my identity and it doesn't do that at all.
04:21I still feel like myself.
04:22I'm so excited to rock this pink hair.
