00:12I'm going to be getting a lime green wig.
00:15As someone who's natural and has had so many hair changes,
00:19it's so important for me to retain the length that I had.
00:22I had dreadlocks for 11 years of my life,
00:25so that was like limited experimentation.
00:28I could only do it so much.
00:30And then when I was a junior in high school,
00:32I completely shaved my head.
00:34It was just like me taking control over how I was expressing myself with my hair.
00:40After shaving my head, I went through like all of the weird transformations
00:42of like having relaxed hair, wearing weaves, wearing protective styles.
00:46And what worked best for me was protective styles.
00:49It helped me retain my length, not destroy my curl pattern,
00:54and not have to deal with all the single strand knots and tangling
00:57that most natural girls have to deal with.
00:59But once I'm lime green, it's a whole new bag.
01:02I've never had real color, and she's going to get real color.
01:06So besides the fact that I'm just happy to be going lime green,
01:10I'm super excited that Ebanks is going to be doing it for me.

01:26What made you want to do a bright color?
01:28I've never really committed and like had fun color-wise.
01:32I was ready.

01:35I am so excited for her.
01:48I did what most girls who don't understand their hair do.
01:52I put a perm in it.
01:53Perms don't work for everybody.
01:55I ended up having over-processed hair and my hair started to fall out.
02:01So coming out of that and being able to actually grow my hair back,
02:04grow my edges back, make sure my curl pattern was still there.
02:08I'm just not going to let my hair be touched by anybody.
02:12So when I'm picking a hairstylist, like, it's serious business.
02:16Any black woman would know that.
02:18Any woman knows that.
02:19Hair is deep.
02:57Any time I get a new hairstyle, I am a little nervous.
03:00The lime green has to look green.
03:02It can't even skew yellow.
03:04I don't want yellow on my head.
03:05I'm also a little worried about what my mom is going to think.
03:09She's worried about what people may think about me when they don't truly know me.
03:12They just see this girl with lime green hair.
03:15But to that, I would just be like, Mom, you know, it's trendy.
03:18She's living her best life.
03:21You only go around once.
03:35She's wearing wigs.
03:36There used to be a lot of stigma around wigs and wearing wigs.
03:39Even the word wig, like, people wouldn't use it.
03:42They would say unit or lace front.
03:44Now wigs are so trendy because all of the celebrities are now wearing wigs.
03:49Every upcoming artist pretty much has a wig on her head.
03:52And it's because what's underneath is more important.
03:55There's so many options now.
03:57And hair care and hair is a lot bigger.
04:00The industry is a lot bigger than it was.
04:02It's a lot more tangible.
04:03It's a lot more affordable.
04:04So now wigs are like an everyday thing.
04:15I'm about to bless her with some baby hairs on this unit right now.

04:19Who doesn't love baby hairs?
04:29As a black woman, I change my hair a lot.
04:31And that has to do with, like, expressing myself.
04:33But it also has to do a lot with versatility.
04:36When you change your hair, it's just a way to boost your self-confidence.
