00:07Today I'm facing my fear and double daring myself to learn how to use an eyelash curler.
00:13So, what is it about a lash curler that leads you into fits of terror?
00:19Well, it's just that it looks a lot like things that I see on Game of Thrones.
00:24Something you use to, like, torture someone.
00:26Certainly not something that would make me look beautiful, and I'm just kind of afraid to, like, work my eye
00:31with it.
00:32Well, what I would love to do is show you a really easy way to curl your lashes,
00:37because what curling your lashes can do is really open up that eye, make you look less tired,
00:41and really make any eye makeup look or non-makeup look look a little bit fresher.
00:46The first choice you need to make when curling your lashes is which lash curler is right for you.
00:51This is where I think you can invest a little bit of money.
00:53If you're purchasing a lash curler that has a silicone strip, it's a much more gentle pull,
00:58and you don't have to worry about that band grabbing on and perhaps pulling out a few lashes,
01:04which I know you're afraid of.
01:06The next thing that we're going to do is bring the lash curler right to the eye.
01:09You want to make sure your lash curler is clean and that there's no mascara on it,
01:13and I prefer to curl lashes when there is no mascara on the lash.
01:16I take control and anchor the eye.
01:19So you bring the lash curler right to the root.
01:21Oh, God.
01:22Press down gently.
01:23I don't like it.
01:23And here's the big trick.
01:25You've got to turn the lash curler so that the curve of the curler takes the same curve as the
01:31crease.
01:31That doesn't hurt, right?
01:32No, it just feels weird.
01:33And then I'm just pressing slightly and pulsing, stepping up the lash, and when I pull the curler away,
01:40you can see you've got a beautiful curl instead of a crimp.
01:43What a lot of women do is they take the curler and they just press it down really hard.
01:48All right, I'm proud of you.
01:48You make it look easy.
01:50Okay.
01:51Oh, God.
01:52It's like when I learned to use chopsticks.
01:54Oh, God.
01:56Press again.
01:59And un-press.
02:01Ooh.
02:02How do you get them to stay up, though?
02:04You can't, like, hairspray them.
02:06You could heat up the lash curler with your blow dryer if you want to, and that's great for a
02:11lot of women of color that have very straight lashes where the curl doesn't always take.
02:16Heat up that curler a little bit and it'll allow those really straight lashes to curl as well.
02:20Do you think if I heat this up I could crimp my hair?
