Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc gathered at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to conduct a symbolic public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The proceedings commenced with former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar taking the chair as the presiding officer. Kharge opened the floor to introduce the impeachment notice against the CEC over alleged irregularities surrounding the Special Intensive Revision process and deletions from voter lists. Leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi were present alongside civil society representatives and affected citizens. In her opening remarks, Kumar stated that the assembly was convened because names of eligible voters were being improperly removed from electoral rolls without transparency or accountability. She emphasized that India's democracy is built on the principle of equality and that denying even a single eligible citizen the right to vote harms the soul of the democratic process. Leaders raised grievances concerning lack of redressal from the Election Commission.
