00:00It's the Dangerous One, Daryl Ryder. Hello, Daryl.
00:03Hello, boys.
00:06Is this one loss, or is there any bigger problems here?
00:09No, I think there's some bigger problems.
00:12That's not the answer I wanted.
00:14Yeah, I didn't like what I saw yesterday.
00:18Too much flapping the gums, not enough playing the game of football.
00:22And that's what you get.
00:24But, so, yeah, just very, very disappointed, especially from a Todd Munkin team.
00:32And everything that we had seen from him, I was really disappointed top to bottom with what we saw yesterday.
00:40All right, so where do you think it started going wrong?
00:43I mean, obviously they had the turnovers early, but the game was not insurmountable after those turnovers.
00:48It was still a two-possession game.
00:51Why couldn't they get things going?
00:53Well, it's the same old story in the first quarter for them.
00:56They can't do anything in the first quarter.
00:59It's ridiculous.
01:00I mean, it's pathetic.
01:02They ought to just skip the first quarter and go to the second quarter.
01:04That's how bad they are.
01:0665-13, that's what they've been outscored in the first quarter.
01:09That's not too bad.
01:11It's terrible, Ken.
01:14You can't play from behind every week and expect that you're going to win.
01:20And no shore of force yesterday whatsoever from them, other than with their mouths.
01:25You're down 21 points and you're getting taunting penalties.
01:29What are you taunting for?
01:30You're getting your ass whooped.
01:32Like, I just, I don't understand it.
01:35Can I share, Darrell, I think taunting is just a catch-all for probably saying some things that you can't
01:40repeat out loud.
01:41Honestly, like, there's no, like, if they were wagging their fingers at guys while they're down by 21, I get
01:47it.
01:47But there's a lot of things I think were just nasty phrases that might have been said.
01:51And I think that they just call it taunting because they really don't want to call it anything else.
01:56I would hope they would have that much common sense to not taunt being hammered like that.
02:02Well, it doesn't matter what they got called for.
02:05Bottom line, it got called.
02:06And secondly, you got called for running your mouth.
02:09Shut the hell up and play the game.
02:11Why do you think it was, Darrell, they were so emotionally charged?
02:15Where did that come from this week?
02:16Because Todd Munkin kind of downplayed things.
02:18You also saw, you know, our local kid, star corner, Denzel Ward kind of downplayed things.
02:25So where did that come from this week?
02:26Was it literally just Jared Verse?
02:30Well, they didn't look charged to play that game yesterday.
02:34They looked charged to run their mouths.
02:37Like, did that look like a football team that showed up to play yesterday?
02:42No.
02:43Exactly.
02:44So no.
02:46It just, they had a complete no-show by then.
02:50Were they too emotional?
02:51They might have been too emotional.
02:52Yeah, I don't, I don't know.
02:55But I wasn't expecting that yesterday.
02:57I really wasn't.
02:58Like, I'd be fine if you lost the game, you know, in the fourth quarter.
03:02But when you just absolutely go out and embarrass yourself like that in a rivalry game, you know,
03:10all week you're being asked about this 22-game losing streak in Pittsburgh and not having swept the Steelers, you
03:17know,
03:18since the Reagan administration, like, and that's what you did.
03:23You fumble on your first two possessions.
03:26You fall behind early again.
03:30Your offense looks absolutely lifeless.
03:34Then your defense starts to wear down.
03:36You get absolutely trucked at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
03:41The lack of physicality was disturbing.
03:45Jared Verse gets flipped on his head.
03:48Nobody responds.
03:49And regardless if it was a dirty play or how they were taught or whatever, you'd think that'd wake somebody
03:54up and say,
03:55oh, boy, these, you know, these boys came to play today.
03:57We better respond with our own physicality within the rules of the game.
04:02No.
04:03They got pushed around for four quarters yesterday.
04:06Zero response from them.
04:08Like, that's, for me, that's what's unacceptable.
04:12Getting pushed around for four quarters and not responding appropriately.
04:17And, again, that's not something I was expecting to see from a Todd Munkin team.
04:23Darryl Ryder joining us here on the show.
04:26Were you disappointed in Todd Munkin because of that then?
04:29Yeah.
04:30Hmm.
04:30100%.
04:32And, you know, I just, I don't, because it starts with him.
04:38Like, that's, it starts with him.
04:40He's responsible for it.
04:41So, like, they just, they did not look prepared to play football yesterday at all.
04:47The Steelers came to play.
04:49The Steelers came to send a message.
04:51You're still the little brother.
04:52Sit down and shut up and eat your crow.
04:56That's what the Steelers did yesterday for four quarters.
04:59And the Browns had no response to it.
05:01All right, Darryl, I thought that was the worst the offensive line has worked all year.
05:06And I thought there have been times, certainly in Deshaun Watson's career, where you'd watch
05:11and go, oh, that sack's on Deshaun.
05:13That's him.
05:14He has no pocket awareness.
05:16Yesterday, I thought it was almost all on the offensive line.
05:19Yeah, I'm going to go back and watch it again this morning.
05:23I mean, that's the hard part.
05:24You know, what's on Deshaun?
05:26But eight sacks.
05:28The Steelers had more sacks than the Browns had points.
05:32Come on, man.
05:34And Deshaun was terrible yesterday, too.
05:38Don't get caught up in the box score.
05:41It was brutal to watch at times.
05:44And a lot of those yards he got when the game was over.
05:49Deshaun has not been great this year by any stretch of the imagination.
05:54He's been great in the fourth quarter, but not so much in the first three quarters.
05:59That's a problem.
06:00He's a very streaky, inconsistent player.
06:04And he also helps dig the grave that they always seem to have to dig themselves out of week in
06:11and week out.
06:12He's got to be better early in these games.
06:15There's no question about it.
06:17But yeah, the offensive line wasn't good.
06:20They couldn't run the ball worth anything.
06:23Um, the defensive line wasn't any good yesterday.
06:27Uh, there wasn't anything good yesterday to come out of that.
06:31Okay, Harold Fannin caught for over 100 yards.
06:34Great.
06:34Awesome.
06:35Deshaun Watson, 300-yard passing game, back-to-back weeks.
06:38Great.
06:39You lost by three touchdowns in a game that you were playing for first place in your division.
06:45Good job, guys.
06:46Pat on the back for everybody.
06:47Oh, Daryl, come on.
06:49And can there be a lesson learned from here?
06:53Uh, you would hope so.
06:56Are you afraid we're about to roll down a hill here?
06:58No.
06:59I mean, it sure as hell sounded like it there for a moment.
07:02You got New Orleans, and then you got your bye week.
07:06You got Houston, then you got the bye week.
07:08Houston, and yeah.
07:11Baltimore season's pretty much over.
07:13Um, but, no, I, I just, I, that was same old Browns yesterday.
07:22That's, that, I, I, it just flashbacks to what we've watched for the last 30 years with this franchise yesterday.
07:28That's what that was, and I thought we were beyond that.
07:31I don't know.
07:32I, I just think it was bad football.
07:35I don't, I think same old Browns.
07:37They didn't show up to play yesterday.
07:38They didn't show up to play yesterday.
07:40Well, no kidding, Daryl.
07:40No one's saying that they showed up to play, but you're sitting there saying same old Browns.
07:44I, I, I don't know.
07:44I did see guys, well, I, and I don't enjoy it.
07:47I did see guys pretty pissed off, even though they, they were getting their asses handed to them.
07:51But, I mean, I watch guys go out there, lose, collect their paycheck on Tuesday, and move on with their
07:56lives.
07:57I don't think they reacted like that.
07:58I got to tell you, I, I, I am being nitpicky here, but I'm going to nip, I'm going to
08:02pick the nits.
08:06All right, Lima, go ahead and ask them a question.
08:08Well, I was going to say, you know, for those that think like this is the end of the world,
08:12that they've, they've been exposed.
08:13I mean, they get 2020, they got blown out at Pittsburgh in the regular season.
08:18And we know how that season went and moved to the playoffs and what happened in that opening weekend in
08:23Pittsburgh.
08:24So, it's not like you can't recover from this.
08:26My question is, Daryl, that offensive line and that lack of an ability to stop the run,
08:33it's not like that stuff's going away.
08:34I don't know how they fix that stuff.
08:36Well, Deshaun's the most sacked quarterback in the NFL.
08:41That's problematic, right?
08:45The run game has, you've had one good week in eight running the ball.
08:52And that, that was against the Titans.
08:59Your, and I don't know if it's a chemistry thing.
09:05I don't know if it's a scheme thing.
09:07I don't know if it's the running backs aren't, aren't going where they're supposed to be going when they have
09:12the ball in their hands.
09:13Like, there's so many variables there.
09:16I don't, you know, there are times where it looks like Deshaun's holding on to the ball too long
09:20because he's afraid to throw it, especially early in games.
09:24There are guys that do look open down the field and he'll take a sack.
09:30You know, and then there are times where it's like he has the ball in his hands and the next
09:33thing you know, he's getting hit.
09:35So, um, I, I, I kind of feel like the blame is shared all around.
09:41It's just, it's not one single player.
09:43It's not one single unit.
09:44It's just, it's a, it's a collective failure.
09:47And then they go through these stretches where Deshaun teleports back to 2018 or 2019 and in the fourth quarter
09:58and he puts it all together.
10:01And, and again, I don't understand it.
10:04I really don't, um, you know, why can you be so good in the fourth quarter, but early in the
10:12games, you, you'll, you'll look like you haven't played football in six years.
10:16Which again, understandable considering everything he's been through, but this offense right now is a little bit of an enigma
10:22for those, you know, first couple quarters, especially the first and the third quarter.
10:27It's, it's, it's as if like they, they need a quarter for the engine to rev up, uh, come, you
10:32know, coming out of the locker room, whether it's to start the game or coming out of halftime.
10:36I can't put my finger on it.
10:38And clearly Todd Munkin can't either, because I think if Todd Munkin could, he, he would have found a fix
10:44for it.
10:44We got eight days.
10:46We got two more interviews with you before the trade deadline.
10:49Where are you at right now with them after the loss?
10:50Uh, they, they need some offensive line help.
10:53Uh, they could use some help in the tight end room.
10:57Um, I think those are the two areas of greatest concern.
11:03Um, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna give the defensive line a little bit of a pass for yesterday.
11:11They just got outworked by the Steelers, but they have outside of Jared verse, they have had, uh, plenty of
11:18success getting to the quarterback, putting pressure on the quarterback.
11:20And that's so like, I'm not going to panic over that yet.
11:23I just think they got their butt whooped yesterday.
11:25The Steelers came in motivated.
11:26The Browns were not, and it showed.
11:29So, um, you know, I, I, I've seen some stuff, you know, maybe they need to go get another pass
11:36rusher or whatever.
11:37I think the priority needs to be offensive lined in tight end.
11:41Uh, if Andrew Barry has an opportunity to, to make a move.
11:46Daryl Reiner joining us on the show.
11:49All right, Daryl, boy, this is a.
11:51It's a sad day here with you.
11:53All right.
11:54Thank you for the time.
11:55Well, I, you know, I, I'm sorry.
11:56I couldn't make a 21 point butt whooping by the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh.
12:01Again, well, sound like it was a ball of fun.
12:04Real quick again.
12:05Let me, let me reiterate again.
12:06Cause it kind of, should I be worried about next Sunday?
12:11Um, next Sunday, next Sunday's a game.
12:13They should win.
12:14They should be able to go to New Orleans and beat the same.
12:16And that is, and that's a perfectly fair and reasonable answer.
12:20And, and the following week is, you know, is in my view, a winnable game against the Texans.
12:25And if they, if they end up with a back-to-back wins, this one's all forgotten about.
12:30Cause they go into the bye feeling really, really good at seven and three.
12:33Well, that's why everything wasn't fire and brimstone last week.
12:36That's why, I mean, I was getting ripped in a dilemma to a degree, but I'm sitting there
12:41going, guys, if they go to Pittsburgh, they haven't won in Pittsburgh in over 20 years.
12:44I go, if they haven't won in Pittsburgh in 20 years, I don't know if a young and experienced
12:48team is going to be the team that goes out there and just does it.
12:51And so if they didn't, they haven't won in 20 years and I really didn't expect them to
12:54win on Sunday.
12:56All right.
12:57All those things come together.
12:58So I'm going to start killing them and say that this is all just fake.
13:00No, I, to me, the bigger challenge is next week against new or this coming Sunday against
13:06new Orleans, you go down there and you play like garbage.
13:08Now we're starting to, things are starting to pick up here and we're starting to have
13:11problems here.
13:12If you go down there and win, okay, you're six and three.
13:14And it's exactly what you said.
13:15Come back here.
13:16Even at six and four going into the bi-week, it's like, Hey, you're, you're one of the teams
13:18with their head above water in the AFC possible playoff team.
13:22Then I, I just, I, I just did not make this game out to be Ohio state, Michigan.
13:28I didn't make it out to be army Navy.
13:29I didn't make it out to be Alabama Auburn where they only play each other once a year.
13:33Like you were going to play them twice.
13:34They're veterans.
13:35They were going to learn from the loss that they had against us.
13:38Flat out.
13:39The loss didn't bother me the way they lost bothered me.
13:43It's not fun.
13:44Well, Daryl and Daryl, thank you very much for the time.
13:46I know that it just wasn't a lot of fun for everybody involved here.
13:49I love Daryl, but you know, that's sucks to have to do that.
13:53Go ahead.
13:53It's brought to you by.
13:54Yeah.
13:54Shive and Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
13:56Yeah.
13:56I'm not throwing Daryl under the bus.
13:58I mean, Daryl, we're all disappointed with the way they lost and I I'm disappointed with
14:02them.
14:04I, I think taunting, I hope taunting is just a catch all phrase that they use.
14:08Cause they don't want to tell you what they said.
14:12Cause you can't taunt when you're down.
14:15And especially when you're down big makes it even more humiliating.
14:19Yes.
14:19So I think taunting is probably, I hope it's a catch all term, but it's, it's, there's
14:24plenty of reasons, reasonable reasons why they went over there and they lost yesterday.
14:29And even to the degree that they lost, does it bother you that the Steeler fans are all
14:33up in our mentions today laughing at the Browns because it's almost like we didn't beat
14:38them.
14:38It's four weeks ago.
14:40It's it, but the reason that way more people watch, the reason they're doing it is because
14:45we did it to them a month ago.
14:46If it didn't bother them, like it hadn't bothered them.
14:49I mean, we've gotten hammered by the Steelers in the past and I haven't had one damn person
14:52say anything cross from me.
14:55It don't matter.
14:56Now it matters.
14:57You won on Thursday night, a month ago, you got your ass handed to you yesterday.
15:03All right.
15:04You're still five and three.
15:05Go figure out a way to go down to new Orleans and go beat a team that in so many
15:09ways you
15:09should be able to beat and you should beat.
15:13And if you come back at six and three, that's why I'm not shooting my mouth off at five and
15:17three.
15:19That's why I wasn't shooting my mouth off before this, before the game anyway.
15:22Cause it's like, yeah, there's a lot of things that are kind of going against us here.
15:26All right.
15:26I hope you learned a lesson that lesson.
15:29I will tell you what it should be in five minutes on the fan.
