00:16all right so jared goff obviously we'll talk to him tomorrow uh do not expect to have aiden
00:22hutchinson today we do and hope to reschedule for later this week um look i just want to say
00:28this on jack campbell because we're all sort of waiting for news and it's cast a pall over this
00:34win that you know that absolutely is in some ways what we saw yesterday was just terrifying it's the
00:40worst of football is injuries like that where suddenly the you know the next play you just
00:46it's hard to care about what's going on on the field um i you know and we got to remember
00:54in
00:55this day and age that information and medical information and hipaa laws keep maybe more
01:02reporting than there has been in the past from this being let out um you know you like to hear
01:07any updates but we're not entitled to those things and they aren't as public information as they used
01:14to be i still am scared just like everybody else but it's something to keep in mind just because we
01:20haven't heard anything yet hopefully there will be some news and hopefully good news dan campbell is
01:27scheduled to speak today at three so that is a time in just under four hours where we may get
01:34an update
01:34so that is the very latest 248-539-9797 okay gator i did tease this so i want to get
01:41to it
01:43there was a fascinating moment in yesterday's game where i had flashbacks and that is the detroit
01:50lions are trailing 15 to 13 they get the football with let me go back and see exactly how much
01:58time
01:59was left i marked this on my uh they get the football with 839 to go they're down by three
02:05they proceed to run seven plays five runs two passes they go in that drive 69 yards 57 of it
02:21on the
02:21ground five runs for 57 yards they didn't face a third down they go right down the field and capitalize
02:30on that that that nice floater from goff to jamison williams in the left corner left corner of the end
02:37zone minnesota gets the ball back 435 to go down 19 to 15 they end up facing a fourth down
02:49and five
02:50with 301 to go they have all their timeouts three timeouts two minute warning they are in their own
02:58territory at the 33 yard line it wasn't fourth and one but kevin o'connell decided to punt
03:08a week prior in similar circumstances with the other team having just gone on a long drive
03:16dan campbell decided to go for it in his own territory now given it was a difference fourth
03:20and five versus fourth and one matters but the lions had just shoved the ball down minnesota's throat
03:26o'connell was running the risk of never getting the ball back and that's exactly what happened
03:31kevin o'connell had a decision to make could his defense have forced a field goal there
03:37preserved time and given his offense the football back or could he have converted the fourth and five
03:43now detroit's strength is their offense minnesota's is not detroit had a fourth and one minnesota had a
03:52fourth and five so they are different but campbell went for it didn't get it his defense rewarded him
03:57by blocking that field goal or getting a paw on that field goal that helped green bay miss the field
04:02goal and then his offense went down the field and scored o'connell decided to punt and he was playing
04:07to his strength is the way i see it playing to his defense yeah but his defense had just given
04:13up
04:13the drive that they just gave up and what happened to trey got the ball back and ran out the
04:17clock
04:17and by literally running out the clock it was a similar situation different context with different
04:24strengths and weaknesses it worked for campbell one week it didn't work for o'connell the next
04:30it's just interesting how these things play no it is and after dan campbell explained his
04:36his reasoning as to why he did what he did last week i i understood it and i was i
04:41was fine with it
04:42both have logic both have logic playing to their strengths right and while we're watching the game
04:46yesterday stoney says to me he's he's punting and i'm like i get it you've got the best defense in
04:53football you'd be trusting your defense to get you the ball back but yeah what just happened the drive
04:59before big drive by the lions so they just did the same thing that picked up where they left off
05:04on the
05:05last drive and able to just crush the souls of of minnesota while doing it i i can see why
05:11both
05:11coaches did what they did they both played to their strength and dan campbell he trusted his
05:17offense to get the one yard they didn't and he came out victorious o'connell trusted his defense to
05:24get the football back yes it just turned into an ice box in here did you just it's so cold
05:29in here
05:29today um o'connell trusted his defense to get the football back they didn't both of them trusted their
05:37strengths their strength didn't come through campbell won anyway o'connell did not two four
05:43eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven anyway i thought it was uh kind of interesting
05:47that it played itself out that way the next week let's get back to your phone calls brandon and
05:51ipsalanti hello brandon how we doing good morning what's up i haven't called since pat passed and you
05:58know it's been one of those rough things with that but uh i want to really compliment the lions on
06:02the
06:02grit they showed yesterday that was something i've been looking for since they lost to you know
06:09the nfc championship there with uh washington that's something i was looking for is that
06:14you know they had all those players fall four or five players fall to injuries and then all of the
06:19nowhere they collected their offense together and then you know gibbs running for that touchdown was
06:25exactly what i wanted to see it's like they pulled together as a unit and said you know what we're
06:31facing some hard times right now but let's get this let's get this for the not just the fans but
06:36it seemed like they pulled together for themselves as a unit and that's what i was looking for to see
06:43this year because the last you know 14 games with the lions going into last year it didn't seem like
06:50they
06:50had that that fighting grit they had you know when they were you know the years previous when they
06:57were it was all about grit and this year this this game it seemed like they really pulled it together
07:04and was like you know what we're we're dropping guys on defense and you know we're going to pull
07:10together anyways you know let's rely on our backups and let's really get this game together
07:15and you know although offense was slow to begin with uh bringing in scrugs you know was one of those
07:21things where i thought was the right i thought they were going to pull him in in the first half
07:25you
07:25know around the second quarter but they pulled him in in the the second half and it really
07:30scruggs did scruggs did take over in the second quarter he did it was a second quarter it was their
07:36third or fourth possession oh sorry it is it is my garden i did take a step off yeah i
07:42did take a step
07:43off to go do some stuff in the garden but you know when he did take over it did seem
07:47like in the second
07:48half is when they really had that talk as a unit that that's what i wanted to see from them
07:54as a team
07:54brandon you brought up a good point about the second half and and this is it brings us to one
07:59of the things that i thought was really interesting was aaron andrews reported that dan campbell told
08:04her we think we're going to make some big plays in the run game and you mentioned that 30 yard
08:09touchdown run by jameer gibbs you know how many yards rushing jameer gibbs had at halftime
08:14he had 37 yards on 11 carries and dan campbell said at halftime we think we're going to get some
08:20big
08:20plays in the run game and sure enough they did and that was one of them and then at the
08:24end when
08:25they went 57 yards of the 69 yards on the ground and five carries between gibbs and vackey he he
08:33he
08:33called it well people have been critical the lions in the past and even the parts of this season for
08:40not making the halftime adjustments the big buzzword for people did they make halftime adjustments in this
08:47one uh they appear to have yes i mean certainly offensively they did with all the rushing yards
08:52over 160 yards rushing in the second half defensively i mean they had to adjust not from a philosophical
09:00standpoint like oh we have to do this this and this from a personnel standpoint they had to make some
09:05serious adjustments and they still only give the one touchdown in the second half one touchdown in
09:09the first one touchdown in the second that's pretty good defensive football for an entire game and
09:15then the offense really showed up in the second half two four eight five three nine ninety seven
09:19ninety seven daves and royal oka next hello dave hey good day to you guys and i kind of agree
09:25with
09:25the previous call grit is tough but yeah we mentioned on national broadcast that they should rest all their
09:31players for miami because of the miami situation but that's all i gotta say wait you want to you want
09:38to
09:38arrest all the players for miami that are no uh injured players
09:46well i don't want them to play injured players yeah if they're they're hurt okay i don't want to
09:50we're way too early in the week and we got too much but they're they can't overlook miami i this
09:57is the nfl
09:58and then the national football league the lions are a seven point favorite that's a big number in the nfl
10:04and i just you know i think this is a incredibly difficult next game both emotionally and physically
10:14and look i you know i bet my my gut tells me miami's gonna make this close and that this
10:22is
10:22going to be one of those games that you just have to survive and if next monday we're talking about
10:26the lions winning 14 to 13 or 21 20 or something like that it's just important to get the win
10:33and i i realize that you know people have high standards and want this team to blow everybody
10:38out but i think this miami game is way more challenging than it looks on paper i agree with
