00:20And I truly think that you guys are the greatest at what you do
00:23And I think watching, because I got to watch the first episode
00:26I got to really see what The Greatest is going to become
00:30And I'm super excited to see all eight episodes
00:32So Kai, we were speaking offline about how
00:36You may not have known much about Rudy, especially, at least for me
00:39I didn't know much about Muhammad's family, specifically his brother
00:43So I was so impressed to see how, like, determined and strong Rudy is
00:51In moments where there's chaos around him
00:53He is truly the center of calm
00:55And I think that's why he's truly Odessa's kid
00:58Because Odessa is also the calm within it all
01:01So how do you guys translate such peace within such a chaotic storm?
01:08Because not only is it Cassius going through chaos outside the home
01:11But inside the home there's also some chaos for everyone experiencing it
01:15So how are you guys able to just be the center of calm within this chaotic realm?
01:20I would say for me, you know, this family is really, it balances itself out
01:28You know, from the father to the mother to both of the boys
01:31They're very yin-yang of both of each other
01:33And so there is a naturalness, a quickness to be calm
01:41Because a lot of the things that are happening around, as you said, are hectic and chaotic
01:45And so it's necessary, right?
01:48I think also when raising a second child, you approach it differently than your first
01:54So, you know, in the show, Cassius is how he is because of, you know, how he was initially raised
02:00by his parents
02:00I think I am getting a different set of parents than he got, right?
02:05Although we're a year apart, it's a different type of care, it's a different type of love, you know?
02:09You know, there's a later on in a few of the episodes, you know, she even mentions like, you know,
02:14Rudy's getting older
02:15And like this, life is changing, right?
02:18There's a new type of thing that's happening
02:20But I think there is a desire for both of these characters to want to, you know, kind of keep
02:26the calm within the storm
02:28So, what would you say?
02:30I think that what is not commonly known is how much Odessa depended on Rudy
02:40Cassius Jr. might have been her megastar, her like, you know what I mean, north star, if you will
02:46But I believe truly that Rudy was Odessa's best friend
02:52Like he was there in the thick of everything day to day with her
02:56He could walk in a room and check the temperature of the room and knew what kind of mood or
03:01feelings she was having
03:02Or if she was grinning and bearing it, he knew what was going on underneath
03:06I feel like Rudy and Odessa were extremely close
03:10And so there's a moment in the, I don't think I'm revealing too much, but there's a moment in the
03:15series where they go off
03:17I mean, that's pretty public, they go off to grow up and go pursue life and everything
03:22And it's not just one heartbreak, but she is heartbroken for her, she's losing her best friend too
03:28Like she's losing her day to day guy that she gets to talk to
03:31Because sometimes things are so challenging and complex between her and Cassius Sr.
03:35So it's just, it's really special, their relationship
03:40And I think the calmness, I think it mainly came from the two of them
03:46Like kind of bonding together and supporting each other the best that they could
03:50Which happens in situations where if there's volatility around you, you cling to each other as a nucleus, you know?
03:56So I think they, that absolutely was the story of Odessa and Rudy, for sure
04:01And you can see how much love is not only between the entire family, but you two specifically
04:06When you guys are on screen, it really shows
04:10Like I wouldn't imagine that y'all weren't related somehow
04:13Because
04:13Don't we look alike?
04:15Honestly, period
04:17It's right there, you can see it
04:18So I truly think that this show is going to embody so much for people
04:23Because again, as I was just learning more about Cassius before he becomes Muhammad Ali
04:31Just how humble he truly is
04:35And I don't think that people really know that until they watch this series
04:39So one of the things that I also loved is how Odessa's character, specifically how you navigate not only protecting
04:49Cassius, but not knowing when to let him do his own thing and when it was time to protect him
04:57So how are you able, especially as a mom yourself?
05:00Yeah
05:00How are you able to know when you're supposed to be in the front of your kid?
05:05Yeah
05:05And when you're supposed to be letting them lead the path that they want
05:09It's an extremely hard line to walk
05:12I have a five-year-old and it's hard right now
05:14You know, I'll be at his swim lessons and I'm like constantly like
05:18But he's gotta learn
05:20I have to let him fail a bit to succeed
05:24And it's really hard to watch your child fail or
05:27Divert the path you thought they were gonna be on and accept it
05:31Because I think we as parents were just like
05:33Well, no, you're gonna do this and this is what it's gonna be, right?
05:36And then when that's changed, it's like, well, wait a minute
05:39Now the whole world is different for me
05:40What do you mean you're potentially practicing a different faith?
05:44What do you mean you're leaving Louisville?
05:47Well, I knew you were but like also
05:49Where are you gonna go?
05:50Like what's going you know the the the importance of personal growth and stretching
05:58I think is sometimes hardest for the parent because it's like they've been through
06:02We've been through we we know that those those growing pains are out there
06:06And they're gonna scrape their face they're gonna have to pick themselves up out the mud
06:10And you just you don't want to see your child ever hurt but it is inevitable they have to grow
06:15they have to learn
06:15They're gonna make decisions that really tick you off and you got to roll with it
06:19And you got to support them you got to stand behind them, you know and stand 10 toes down in
06:24in the support of them
06:25You know, we don't you don't do fair weather as a as a parent, you know
06:29You don't don't well when they're walking the line of the life. I want them to live
06:34Right. No, you have to be there no matter what and it's it's tough. Yeah. Yeah
06:39And I think it's also tough from the dynamic of being a brother watching
06:44What Cassius has to not only deal with in the house, but also once he walks outside
06:48Everyone has this this laissez-faire like version of him like once they see that metal they're like, oh my
06:56gosh
06:56It's Cassius
06:58But you know him as a different person and you're seeing the struggles and the and the determination that he
07:03has to go through
07:04In order to do it. So you're right beside him
07:06How does that channel into Rudy?
07:09Being
07:10Not a because I don't think I don't view him as a side character. I view him as literally his
07:16left shoulder
07:16So how is it watching Cassius or watching Jalen have to?
07:22Deal with so much and all you want is for him to actually have his dream because like you say
07:28in episode one
07:29You didn't even think it was gonna happen and now watching it happen. It's an insane world for all of
07:34you
07:34So how do you feel like you've grown?
07:36It's it's really a beautiful mix of a lot of things because
07:41Likewise to in the show you see these two boys having a life-changing moment amongst the two of them
07:46That they have dreamt of prior to this they have failed at prior to this
07:52Rudy even says early in episode one that you know he might believe in God again
07:56You know to me that means there was a moment where you didn't you know there's a moment where you
08:00let go of that faith
08:01And so likewise all these things were watching on the on the screen it's happening to me and Jalen in
08:07real time
08:07And so we're getting a bond over this life-changing moment
08:10We're getting to check in with each other on this life-changing moment and likewise to Rudy likewise to me
08:16There's nothing more than
08:18Wanting Jalen to succeed in this at the highest level
08:21And so it's so easy to blend those worlds because we have the same goal, right?
08:27I want my brother to win. I want my brother to succeed
08:29I want my brother to see the highest peaks of this mountain and so
08:34It's it's you know, it's a it's a blessing that
08:38Only so much of it has to be acted
08:41Because a lot of it is just living you know when the camera's on when it's off. It's it's real

08:46So that reaction Dana just gave was literally my heart
