00:01This is where that trail of destruction came to a crashing end. It was just outside the MCG here
00:07on Barassi Way when a 46-year-old man who'd been driving erratically for quite some time
00:12crashed head-on into a Range Rover and then a Toyota Camry before he was ejected from his
00:18stolen Mustang. Now he died here at the scene just after nine o'clock last night. The driver
00:24of the Range Rover, she sustained injuries to her arm and was taken to hospital but incredibly,
00:29given the scale of the destruction here, nobody else was hurt and we've spoken to a number of
00:34residents who woke up or heard the commotion last night. One described it as sounding like a bomb
00:39going off and raced down to see what had happened. This is what he had to say a short time
00:45ago.
00:45It was an absolute mess. It would have been surprising if everyone made it out okay. It was
00:51crazy. I don't know how it's going wrong but that much damage on a 60-kilometre road,
00:58unbelievable. So this is where it all ended but it's really those final moments leading up to that
01:03final fatal crash that police are trying to piece together today. So the driver is believed to have
01:08been spotted driving a different stolen car earlier in the evening. That was a white Subaru that's
01:14believed to have been snatched on Friday. Now he was seen driving on the wrong side of the road on
01:19Punt Road which is around the corner from where we are right now. When he crashed into two other cars,
01:24one of those was the Mustang which he then jumped into and sped off in. Now nobody in either of
01:29those
01:29other cars were injured but as police try to piece together what went on leading up to that final
01:36moment, they are asking for anyone with CCTV or any information to get in touch.
