Tonight, we'll follow a narrowing road down to a foggy cove, where a long stone inn glows amber above the harbour and a light is still turning somewhere out in the grey.

Maren has been driving for three hours, away from weeks of too much on and too little off. Halbay House, which everyone on this coast calls the Fog Inn, has a heavy green door, elderflower and ginger tea, and a small room under the roof where the fog presses softly at the old glass. There is a fire in the sitting room, and a reading room where a candle is still burning and a folded note has been waiting under a book about lighthouses. Nothing much happens. The sea breathes across the stones, the harbour light crosses the ceiling, and the large things go quiet.

This is a slow, gentle sleep story for feeling held, read in a calm British voice. The story and sleep affirmations last about 35 minutes; after that, soft sea music continues to the end so you can drift off without touching your phone. The screen fades to black at 8 minutes, so the room stays dark while you sleep.

If this story helped you rest, The Sleepy Innkeeper has more quiet places to fall asleep in the playlist, and subscribing means the next one will be waiting for you.
