Tonight, we'll take a gravel road through the pines to a long timber lodge above a mountain lake, where the rain has been falling since before dawn and nothing much is going to happen.

Dorothea has managed Merrow Lake Lodge for sixteen years, and if you ask what the place specialises in she says: quiet, and this. Renata closes the night logbook with the words steady rain. Marisol lights the stove, Finn sets the cups out along the breakfast counter, and the guests come down one at a time into a grey morning that asks nothing of them. Nothing much happens. A slice of toast gets a second turn, a thermostat gets seen to, and a small spruce gets watered while the whole valley is watered outside.

This is a slow, gentle sleep story about shelter and routine, read in a calm, deep voice. The story and the sleep affirmations last about forty six minutes, and soft warm music carries on to the end, so you can drift off without touching your phone. At 5 minutes the screen turns to a starry sky, then fades to black at 11 minutes, so the room stays dark while you sleep.

If this story helped you rest, The Sleepy Innkeeper has more quiet places to fall asleep in the playlist, and subscribing means the next one will be waiting for you.
