Tonight, we'll settle in at Applegate Inn, an old white farmhouse in the hills of western Massachusetts, on the quiet eve of Thanksgiving, while the pies cool and the long table is laid.
The work of getting ready for Thanksgiving is nearly done. Abigail sets three pies on the kitchen sill and warms a pot of spiced cider with her son Sam. They lay the long harvest table for fourteen, set gourds on the porch steps and walk out to the red barn as frost settles on the fields. Nothing much happens. The first star comes out, and Abigail sits on the porch under the stars.
A gentle Thanksgiving story with no rush and no crowds, told in a calm, slow voice. The story and the sleep affirmations last about 35 minutes, then soft music carries on for about three hours in all. At 11 minutes the screen fades to black, so the room stays dark while you sleep.
